夕方散歩など Evening Walk etc

苦土石灰を買いに近所のJAへ行きました。斑入りレモンのピンクレモネードに赤トンボが止まっています。
I went to the nearby JA to get magnesium lime.  I saw a red dragon fly on a lemon tree - we associate red dragon flies with the arrival of autumn.

赤トンボは最近、公園の草地で夕方になると沢山飛んでいるのを見ますが、こんなに近くで見るのは初めて。

This time of the year, we see a lot of red dragon flies in the Johoku Park in late afternoon, but I have never seen them up so close.

温室を覗いてみたら、ネット上の写真でしか見たことない胡蝶蘭がありました。これは真っ青なタイプ。

I looked into the greenhouse and saw strange plants that I had seen only in photos on the internet - blue phalaenopsis orchids.  This one is in deep blue.

「ブルーエレガンス」というのだそうです。染料を注入して作った青いランなので、来シーズン以降に咲く花は普通の白になるそうです。

It is called 'Blue Elegance'.  Since the flowers are made blue by injecting blue dye, flowers from next season onwards will go back to white, without the same treatment.

こちらは紫。上の青い苗は花序の先まで開花していたけど、この苗の先端には蕾があります。その蕾が咲くと、どれだけ染料の効果が出るのでしょうか。

This one is deep purple.  The flowers of the above plant are open including the ones on the tip, but this purple flower plant has a few flower buds yet to open.  Will they be as purple as the rest of the flowers?

the price is also high, considering the colour lasts for one season only.

私が実際に買ったのは、これらのジミな商品。苦土石灰は、土の再利用のための下準備。キンセンカに関しては、Youtubeでマリゴールドの健康への効果に関する動画を見て、自分で育てようと思いました。花の使い道はいろいろあるようです。

As to my humble purchase, I got the lime, marigold seeds, as well as salad assortment seeds.  The lime will be used to recycle used soil.  I got the marigold seeds having seen videos on YouTube about the benefits of the flowers and wanted to grow them myself.  The salad assortment will be welcome during winter months.

夕方散歩でタイガは城北公園とは逆方向に、石神井川沿いの歩道を選びました。

歩いていると、かなり先から興奮して飼い主さんをこちらに引っ張ってくるチワワに出会いました。2歳半のレオ君。飼い主さんによると、かなり自己主張の強い子なので、「オレ」を逆に呼んでレオになったそうです。とても懐こい子で、タイガの大きさは全く気にしていません。

For the evening walk, Taiga chose the pedestrian path along the Shakujii River, in the opposite direction to the Johoku Park.

As we were walking, we saw a Chihuahua in the distance, pulling his mom in order to get close to Taiga.  He is a 2 years old boy, named Leo.  According to his mom, he is a 'me first' boy, so when she named him Leo, it was a reverse of a Japanese word meaning 'me'.  He is super-friendly, and Taiga's size did not scare him.

高稲荷神社の向かいにある標識のようなボード。いつもはこの近くに腰かけてオヤツにしてから右折して丘を上る道を行きますが、今日のタイガはこのまま石神井川沿いを歩きたいようです。

We came to a spot where we normally take a break for Taiga's treat, before turning left and go up the hill.  Today, Taiga wanted to continue the river root.

自宅から坂を下りて石神井川（ピンクの線）沿いを、黄色の星があるところまで来ました。このまま川沿いを歩き、スポーツグラウンド横のイチョウ並木の終わるところで橋を渡り、対岸を歩きます。赤い線は散歩の行き、青い線は帰りのコース。

The map shows where we came from, as well as the road ahead.  Coming down the hill to the Shakujii River (shown in pink), we walked in the opposite direction to Johoku Park.  We are now at the point shown by the yellow star.  We will continue walking to the end of ginkgo avenue, where we will cross the river to walk on the other side.  So, the red line shows the first half of our walk, and the blue line shows our way home.

途中、トイプードルと黒柴が挨拶しているところに出くわしました。お互い初対面のようなので、タイガも参加しました。トイプードルの子は５歳のモコちゃん。

As we continued walking, we came across two pooches greeting each other.  Since they seemed to be introducing themselves for the first time, Taiga joined in.  The Toy Poodle is a 5 years old girl, named Moko.

タイガのことも怖がらずに自分から近づいて来ました。

She showed no fear of Taiga and approached her willingly.

鼻と鼻がタッチする挨拶です。

黒柴の子は７歳の「チャ」ちゃん。本来はマメシバの子犬で迎えたのが、現在９kgもあるそうです。
This Black Shiba Inu girl is 7 years old, named Cha (which normally means 'tea').  When she came to the family, she was a miniature Shiba puppy, but now she weighs 9 kg, and she loves eating.

柴の顔の表情筋は豊かです。

Shibas have facial muscles with rich expression.

何とも言えない可愛い子です。

She is incredibly kawaii.

更に歩いて、イチョウ並木。奥に見える橋に到達すると、対岸に渡って引き返します。

We have come to the ginkgo avenue.  When we reach the bridge at the end of the avenue, we will cross the river and head home.

橋に到達して今来た道を振り返った風景。右はイチョウ並木、左は桜並木で、秋にも春にも見ごたえが有ります。

From the bridge, looking back the way we came.  On the right are gingko trees, and on the left cherry trees.  So, we can enjoy the yellow leaves of the ginkgo trees in autumn, and the cherry blossoms in spring.

橋を渡って対岸を歩いているうちにベンチを見つけたので、タイガはやっとオヤツにありつけます。

As we were walking on the other side of the river, we came to a bench.  Taiga could at last get her well-earned treat.

あと何年、これほどの距離を歩けるかと思うと、毎回大切にしています。

Taiga is 12 years old now and I do not know how many more years she has left to be able to walk this long distance.  So, I treasure each walk.

帰りの空は夕焼けっぽくなりました。これは東の空。

On our way home, we had pink sky in the east.

西の空は逆光線になるので、あたりが暗く写ります。

In the west, since we were standing against the sunset, the scenery was dark in the photo.

まるで遠くで山火事でも起きているような空の色です。

The cloud looked like a wildfire in the distance.

雨の合間 Between the rains

 今日は雨の合間を狙ってタイガの散歩に出る一日でした。早朝散歩で発見した近所の庭木。空模様を気にしながら上を見て歩いていたら、こんな近くにマルメロの木があることを知りました。

It was a day of going out for a walk in between rain.  During our morning walk, I made a new discovery.  As I was walking looking up the sky, I noticed a European quince tree in a garden near my house.

大木のわりには疎らな実つきですが、カタログでしか見たことの無い実を見て一人でワクワクしてしまいました。ここは高い塀に囲まれた広い敷地に大きな家が２軒立っていて、古い庭木で鬱蒼としているので、今まで特に気にして眺めたことはありませんでした。

For a large tree, there were not many fruits growing, but I was excited to see the fruits in the flesh since I had seen them only in catalogue photos.  The tree stands in a large garden with high walls, where there are two large houses and many old trees.  So, I had never paid much attention before.

城北公園のカリンは未だ色づき始めてもいませんが、この木のはアンズ色です。収穫時期についてググってみたら10月上旬からだそうです。もっと眺めていたかったけど、雨が降って来たので急いで帰りました。

The Asian quince fruits in the Johoku Park are still green, but the fruits on this tree are already apricot coloured.  On returning home, I googled and found that they start ripening in early October.  I wished I could spend more time looking at them, but it started to rain again and we hurried home.

代わって、うちのローゼル、雨のなかでも元気に咲いています。

My roselle plant is thriving in the warm rain, growing taller every day.

今朝は全部で４輪咲いていました。

This morning, I saw 4 flowers opening.

中心の茎では、ピンクの丸に囲まれた開花済みのガクが赤くなり始めています。開花直後のガクと開花直前の蕾はほとんど同じに見えるのですが、大きさは開花後のガクのほうが若干大きいです。

On the central stem, the calyces of flowers a few days ago are becoming red.  Calyces right after flowering and flower buds the day before opening look very similar.  However, the former are slightly larger than the latter.

タイガは退屈しきって、一日じゅう玄関でふて寝していました。夕方散歩の時間には雨が止んでいたのでラッキーでした。

Taiga was bored and sulked on the tiles most of the day.  Luckily, the rain stopped when it was time to leave for our evening walk.

Youtubeで健康によい食品などの海外動画をよく見ていますが、今日はターメリックの1kg入りを注文してしまいました。通販の支払いは、いつものとおりコンビニで現金決済です。今年の７月にカードの不正使用があったとき、カード会社が本当に私の利用なのか問い合わせメールを送ってくれたのは、私が買い物などにカードを利用していない行動が知れていたからだと思っています。なので、今後も通販の決済は現金です。

I like watching overseas videos about foods that are good for health, and today I ordered a kilo of turmeric powder.  As always, I made the payment with cash at the convenience store.  In July this year there were false spending, and my card issuing company contacted me to ascertain, since they were so unusual based on my spending pattern.  After that experience, I am even more set on cash settlements for internet shopping.

外で待っていてくれたタイガにご褒美のオヤツ。

Taiga is always happy to wait for me while I am inside, since she can expect a reward afterwards.

公園に着くと、いつまた降り出すか分からない空模様。地上は雑草の大海原のようです。

When we arrived at the Johoku Park, the sky was threatening, and the ground was a sea of overgrown grass.

ベンチがボウボウの草に埋もれています。

The benches were drowning in the grass.

公園にくる途中にある家のクレオ君に会えました。元は野犬の群れにいたところを保護された子です。現在の飼い主さん一家に迎えられて数年たっていますが、今でも外に出るのが怖くて、こうやって常に警備員モードで散歩です。

We met Cleo, who lives in the house on our way to the Johoku Park.  He was rescued as a puppy living among a pack of stray dogs.  He was adopted by the current owners several years ago, but he remains skittish.  He is so scared of being outside his home that he behaves like a guard dog on duty all the time.

うちのすぐ近くまで帰ってくると、もう６時でした。空模様が更に怪しくなって、家に入った直後には降り出しました。

When we came close to home, it was already 6 p.m.   The sky was getting dark with fast-moving clouds and shortly after we got inside, it started to rain.

秋の風物詩 Another sign of autumn

 城北中央公園のイチョウの実が落果し始めています。ただし、いまの時期の落果は完熟前の生理落果であって、中身は美味しくないと思います（私はイチョウに関心がないので試したことはなくて、単なる想像）。

The ginkgo trees in the Johoku Central Park have started shedding some of its fruits.  However, this is just releasing excess fruits shortly before the ripening season.  So, the nuts inside are probably not formed even (I have never tried, because I do not eat gingko nuts).

完熟でないので、果肉はまだ臭くないです。

Since the nuts are not ripe yet, the flesh on the outside does not emit the offensive smell.

このイチョウ並木が黄葉すると綺麗です。その頃の気候は暑くも寒くもなく、空気が乾燥しているので散歩が快適です。

When the leaves of these ginkgo trees turn yellow in late autumn, this avenue will be beautiful.  At that time, the air will be neither cold nor hot with low humidity, and walking will be so much more enjoyable.

帰るまえの休憩。タイガは頭の中がオヤツで一杯なので、泡ふいて期待しています。

Having a rest before going home.  There is only one thing occupying Taiga's mind and she is frothing at the mouth.

以前、自作の盆栽鉢に植えた実生のノムラモミジを植え替えることにしました。鉢を作った「粘土」の素材は乾燥したあとも硬いマシュマロのように弾力性があり、さらに、猛暑のあいだ鉢の足が熱で溶けたようにタイルにくっついていました。そこで、まともな鉢を再度探し始めたのです。

A few months ago, I made a shallow pot for the red-leaf maple tree seedlings.  I was not quite happy with it, so I wanted to repot the plants.  The material was not natural clay and even now, with the pot completely dry, it is soft like marshmallow.  Moreover, during the heat wave, the legs at the bottom became glued to the tiles in the sun.  It made me look for a proper pot even more eagerly than before.

本当は昔ながらの青いうわぐすりを塗って焼いた鉢を探していたのですが、やっと見つけたのがこのテラコッタ鉢。縁が鉢の内側へ向けて折れ曲がっているので、いつか大きくなった苗を取り出すとき、鉢を壊さなければならないかもしれません。

I wanted a traditional bonsai pot baked with blue paint on the outside, but no such luck.  The best I could find was this terracotta pot.  Its rims overhang towards inside, which means I may have to break the pot when the plants become too large, and I want to take them out for replanting in a larger pot.  

この容器の裏には足が着いていなくて、周りが盛り上がっている形状。足はなくても鉢全体が水が染み出しやすそうな材質なので、排水性に関しては問題なさそうです。ダオン鉢と比べて非常に軽くてデリケートで、テラコッタ独特の臭いがします。

This pot has no 'legs'.  Instead, the four sides are meant to keep the centre off the ground.  Also, the material may allow excess water to seep out, so there is no problem regarding drainage.  This pot is Western terracotta and, compared with old Japanese clay pots, this one is light, delicate, and has a different smell.

苔も新調。以前のはボサボサに伸びるタイプでしたが、今度のはビロードのように張り付くタイプ。

I got new moss, too.  The previous one had long fibres, whereas this replacement is smooth as velvet.

植え替え完了。「和」の雰囲気ゼロですが、あの樹脂製の器よりはマシでしょう。

Repotting done.  It does not look very 'Japanese', but I think it is an improvement on the previous plastic one.
