午後散歩 Afternoon Walk

 昨日の記事はUPのタイミングの関係で、まるで今日の2日に上げたようになってしまいました。気を取り直して、今日の分。暖かい日だったので、午後の３時頃にタイガの昼寝後の散歩に出かけました。ン年ぶりに、環七を渡って（既に板橋区）、遊歩道を小竹向原方向に歩きました。環七まで来るだけでも結構な距離です。今日のタイガがさくさく歩く気分だったのと、私的には近所の道路が完成した際にこんな雰囲気になるかも、というイメージを描くためです。将来、平和台からうちの桜台・氷川台、環七へと道がつながると、その両側は写真のような遊歩道に整備されるそうです。その道は現在、環七から池袋まで既につながっていて、最終的には池袋-平和台が一直線になるそうです。

Due to the timing error of the previous posting, the last article was dated 2nd of January, which should have been 1st Jan.  

Anyway, we went out for an afternoon walk at around 3 p.m., in order to take advantage of the warm weather.  Taiga was happy to walk a long distance today, so we crossed the Ring Road No. 7 and walked the pedestrian road which lies next to a major road, connecting the Ring Road No. 7 Crossing and Ikebukuro.  When the road under construction in my neighbourhood is connected to this major road eventually, there will be a pedestrian road just like this (according to the authorities) on either side of the road.  So, I wanted to create an image.

今歩いている側は閑静な住宅街で、庭付きの戸建てがほとんど。

Along this pedestrian road lies a quiet residential area, and it is a pleasant walk.

環七交差点からかなり来たところで、地下鉄有楽町線の小竹向原駅に到着。

After walking some distance, we came to an underground station, Kotake Mukaihara Station.  The place I live now is near a station which is 4 stops away from Ikebukuro, whereas this Kotake Mukaihara Station is 3 stops away from Ikebukuro.

ズーム機能を使うと、高台にある小竹向原駅から豊島区池袋の高層ビル群が見えます。サンシャインも写っているのですが、小さくてわかりにくい。今の家に越してくる前までは要町駅の近くに住んでいましたが、池袋から一駅なので、部屋のカーテンを開けるとサンシャインが見えました。

Since we are on a higher ground, by using the zoom function, I can see the tall buildings of Ikebukuro.  Before I moved to my present house some 28 years ago, I lived near Kanamecho Station which was only 1 stop away from Ikebukuro.  When I opened the curtain of my bedroom, I used to see the Sunshine Building, the landmark of Ikebukuro since the late 1970's.  Now, there are several tall buildings, and I cannot tell which one is the Sunshine.

道を渡って向こう側に行くと、小竹小学校の裏にはとっくに季節を過ぎた厚物の菊がまだ置いてありました。来年用に冬至芽を育てているのでしょうか。

We crossed the major road to walk on the other side.  There is an elementary school near the underground station.  In the backyard, they still had chrysanthemums, way passed the season.  Perhaps they are trying to grow winter shoots for next year.

道の反対側を歩いて帰路につきます。

So, we walked the pedestrian road on the other side and headed home.

こちら側は集合住宅もあるけど、歩道の舗装ははるかに良い状態です。タイガがもっと若かったとき、春には桜を目当てによくここへ来ました。

On this side, there are some apartment buildings, and the area seems less exclusive.  However, the pavement is better maintained.  When Taiga was young, we used to come here during the cherry blossom season.

Back in our Nerima Ward, this is part of the road under construction, which will be eventually connected to the major road.

この地区へ引っ越してきた当初は、この通路は無くて、写真の右側は古い木が植わっている林でした。その反対の左側、今家が建っているところには、小さなタイヤ工場が営業していました。

When I first moved into my present house, this path did not exist.  The space on the right, including this path, used to be a forest with old trees and, on the left where there are houses now, there was a small tire factory still in operation.

作業員の安全のために、近くの金網に設置されている温度・湿度計。

For the safety of the road construction workers, there is a thermometer hanging on the wire fence.  

夕方のこの時間で、温度は体感よりも低くて12℃、湿度は35%。

I was feeling warm, but the temperature was only 12℃, while the humidity was 35%.

帰宅して一休み。菊の花が終わったので殺風景な玄関前です。タイガは中に入りたがらないですが、正月なので外に出しておくのは気が引けます。

Back home, we relaxed.  Taiga was lingering outside but I did not want to leave her in the cold, not in the New Year.

私が果樹の越冬状態を確認しているあいだ、ひっそり近寄って来て注意を払ってもらうのを待っているタイガ。本当にジミなワンコ。

As I was checking the state of my fruit trees, Taiga crept up on me, hoping to catch my attention.  Her subtle ways always make me laugh.

謹賀新年 Happy New Year!

 明けましておめでとうございます。今年もひたすらタイガの記録を残して行こうと思っています。今朝の東京は雲ひとつない青空。昨夜の強風が雲を吹き飛ばしたかのようでした。

Taiga and I, just two of us, are enjoying a quiet and peaceful New Year.  After the gales of last night, we had a completely blue sky without a spec of cloud all day today.

正月で東京の人口が減ったのか、今朝の都立城北公園は人がまばら。

A lot of people leave Tokyo for the New Year holiday, and the park this morning was almost devoid of people in spite of the mild weather.

いつもの年なら元旦はたいてい強風が吹いているので陸上競技場は凧あげをする親子で賑わうのですが、今日は一日中 微風だに吹かない穏やかな日で、グラウンドは見事に空っぽでした。

Normally, the first day of January is quite windy, and the sports ground attracts a lot of families to fly kites.  However, this morning, with not even a breeze, there was no-one for that purpose.

更に歩いていたら懐かしい顔に会いました。ホワイトレトリーバーのレックス。毎夕方集まって遊んでいた草地で工事が始まって、もう何年も会っていませんでした。現在13歳だそうですが、この大きさでその年齢とは思えないほど状態が良いです。

As we walked on, we met an old friend - a male White Retriever, named Rex.  We used to meet up every evening in the grassland where they are currently building underground anti-flood facilities.  So, we have not seen each other for several years.  Rex is now 13 years old, and I am impressed to see how remarkably fit he looks.

唯一 以前との目立った違いは、首から下の毛が随分と伸びて年齢的に充実した貫禄が出ていることです。

The only notable difference is that the fur under his neck seems to have grown long, which makes him look mature and dignified.

久しぶりの再会にタイガも嬉しそう。タイガの11歳半とあまり差を感じさせないほどしっかりしています。

Taiga seems happy to meet him after such a long time.  Taiga is 11 1/2 years old, and Rex does not seem very much older than Taiga.

帰り道も人影がほとんど無くて東京とは思えないくらいでした。

On our way out of the park, we saw hardly anyone.  I cannot believe we are in Tokyo.

帰宅してカラス戸ごしに日を浴びながら、ホットカーペットの上でウトウトするタイガ。

Back in our living room, Taiga enjoyed the warmth of the sun through the glass door, as well as the comfort of the electric carpet underneath her.

だんだんと瞼が重くなってきます。

Her eyelids are getting heavier.

朝散歩 Morning Walk

 今朝は地元の住宅街を歩いていたら、近くに住むコーギの「ひめこ」に会えました。

As we were walking in the neighbourhood this morning, we met Himeko, a female Corgi who lives nearby.

タイガは早速ひめパパに挨拶。タイガにとって、世界で一番好きな人です。私を含め、他の人に対して耳をこんなにペッタンコにすることはありません。

Taiga greeting Himeko's dad enthusiastically.  He is Taiga's most favourite person on earth.  Taiga never flattens her ears like this to anyone else including myself.

その後やっと、ひめママに挨拶。

Only after that, Taiga started greeting Himeko's mom.

人間との挨拶が終わったあとは、甘えるようにひめを遊びに誘います。ひめにかまって欲しくてしょうがない様子。

After the greeting with humans, Taiga started inviting Himeko to play.  Taiga desperately seeking Himeko's attention.

Himeko looks at me as if to say, "Can't you do something?"

ひめこは今でも必要に応じてタイガを𠮟りつける存在なので、今朝のタイガのまとわりつきはガマンの範囲内のようです。

When Taiga was a puppy, Himeko taught Taiga manners and even now she scolds Taiga as and when necessary.  So, Taiga's behaviour this morning seems within the allowable limit.

We reached Himeko's home, so we parted after giving them a treat.

大掃除サボリ中の散歩 Morning Walk

 大掃除がなかなか進みません。気分転換の散歩で「柿の木広場」へ行って来たあと、帰り道「子供の森公園」まで来たら、後ろからサスケがやって来ました。飼い主さんによると、「柿の木」から出てきたタイガを遠くから見つけてずっと追いかけてきたそうです。ということは、かなりの距離をついてきたことになります。カワイイ！とは言っても図体は大きくて、今44kgあるそうです。

I am in the middle of the customary yearend cleaning which I hate.  To take a break, we went out for a walk in the Persimmon Park.  On our way home, when we were in front of the children's park, Sasuke caught up with us.  According to his owner, Sasuke saw us coming out of the Persimmon Park from a distance and kept pulling him to catch up with us - such a long way.  How sweet!  He is a gentle giant, currently weighing 44kg. 

元は保護されたミックス犬で、生後4ヵ月のときに初めて会ったときは遠目にシェパードっぽく見えましたが、今は巨大な黒柴に見えます。この大きさにも拘わらず本当は超ビビリなのですが、見た目で判断されてしまうのか誰も近寄らないので、タイガが唯一の友達だそうです。

Sasuke is a rescued mixed dog.  When he was 4 months old and came to the current owner, he looked like a German Shepherd puppy, viewed from a distance.  Now, he looks like a huge black Shiba Inu.  In spite of his size, he is an extremely timid dog.  However, other dogs and owners judge him by his appearance, and Taiga is the only friend he has.

久しぶりに会えてお互い嬉しそう。

実は、サスケが追い付いてこれたのは、「子供の森公園」まできたときシュナウザーのタロウと出くわして、知り合いのワンコたちの近況について立ち話をしていたからです。そのタロウはサスケの大きさに引いています。

The reason why Sasuke managed to catch up with us was that we met Tarou, a male Schnauzer friend, and his dad and I were chatting about other acquaintance dogs.  Tarou grew up with Taiga since he was a puppy, but he has never played with Sasuke who is several years younger than Tarou.  Tarou is taken aback by Sasuke's size.

急にサスケが遊びモードに入りました。

Suddenly, Sasuke broke into a play mode.

タイガの前を行ったり来たりして誘っていますが、道路上なので遊ばせるわけにもいきません。

He runs about in front of Taiga, inviting her to join in.  However, we are in the middle of the road, and in front of the park dedicated to small children, so it is no time for playing.

サスケが落ち着いたところで、タロウの飼い主さんがタイガにさようならのナデナデ。

When Sasuke calmed down, Tarou's dad started saying goodbye to Taiga.

タロウは静かに焼きもちをやいていました。

タロウ行っちゃったね。大掃除の途中なので、私たちもその後帰りました。

Soon after, we headed home, in order for me to continue with my cleaning work.
