公園で At the park

 今朝は少しだけ暑さが和らいでいたので、公園に着くなり帰るのではなくドッグランを覗いてみようと川沿いを歩いていたら、お肉屋さん横の草地の前で甲斐犬のヒナとセナと出くわしました。久しぶりです。

It was slightly cooler this morning and, as we were having a longer walk than usual, we ran into Hina and Sena, both female Kaiken.

セナはすっかり大きくなってまだ１歳未満にも関らず、お姉ちゃんのヒナより若干大きく見えます。2頭とも同じ犬舎の出身で、ヒナの母親とセナのおばあちゃんが同一だそうです。

Hina was born earlier this year and now she seems to have slightly outgrown Hina.  They are from the same kennel and Hina's mom is Sena's grandmother.  Sena was born white but she is a full-blooded Kai nevertheless.

甲斐犬３頭並んで写真を撮りたいのですが、なかなか言うことを聞きません。

We wanted to take a picture with 3 of them sitting side-by-side, looking towards the camera.  It turned out to be impossible.

セナがお座りしないのと、皆があっちを向いたりこっちを見たりで統一性なし。

本当に、動物と子供は被写体として難しい。

もう、いいわ。

Forget it.

お肉屋さん横の草地で走らせました。

So we let the dogs run in the field nearby.

最近タイガのダイエットに成功、と思っていましたが、細いヒナと一緒だとタイガのダイエットは遠い道のりだと分かります。

向こうから近所のゴロウがやって来ました。タイガは伏せして狙います。

Goro, my neighbour's Labrador-Shiba mix, came into the field.  Goro is Taiga's boyfriend.

13歳のゴロウ、女の子たちに囲まれています。

帰り道、何年かぶりにビアデッドコリーのダンボに会いました。あまりに久しぶりなので、直ぐには名前が浮かばないほどで困りました。タイガが公園デビューした子犬時代に随分とお世話になったのですが、今はダンボが12歳で、タイガは8歳。あっという間でした。

On our way home, we met Dumbo, a male Bearded Collie, after a long time.  When Taiga was a puppy newly introduced to the park, Dumbo was very kind to her.  Now he is 12 years old and Taiga 8. 

ワンコたちは名前など思い出さなくても良いので、直ぐに打ち解けていました。

After so many years of not seeing him, I could not immediately recall his name but names do not matter to dogs.

Taiga cannot contain herself and starts kissing him.

Dumbo does not seem to mind.

公園で At the park

 今日も蒸し暑くて、東京の最高気温は36℃だったようです。朝散歩で城北公園に着くと人出は少なく、入口草地の時計は止まったままで、こちらまでやる気が出ません。

Another hot and humid day with the max. temperature reaching 36℃ in Tokyo.  There were few people in the park, not just because of the heat but also due to the Covid-related warning.

タイガは冷たい草の上に腹ばいになって体を冷やし始めました。

何とか説得して公園の上のほうへ移動すると、元気なシェルティー２頭が走り回っていました。タイガに興味津々。

We went up to the upper part of the park, where we saw two Shelties running about.  They approached Taiga driven by curiosity.

２頭はきょうだいで、現在1歳。どうりで元気いっぱいです。

They are sisters aged one year - no wonder they are full of energy even in this weather.

飼い主さんご夫婦と楽しく話していたら、通りがかったボーダーの子が近づいて来ました。11歳になる女の子で、年齢相応に落ち着いています。ワンコは目つきで年齢を感じさせます。

As their owners and I were enjoying a conversation, a Border Collie approached us.  She is 11 years old and her eyes and quiet demeanour show it.

タイガのほうから近づいてもゆったりと構えていて、こんなに落ち着いたボーダーは見たことありません。

When Taiga went to greet her, she remained still.  I have never seen such a quiet Border.

そこへ、超興奮ワンコが飛び入り。ゴールデンのラブちゃん。

They were interrupted by an over-excited Golden Retriever, named Love.

ラブちゃんはワンコたちの仲間入りをしたいけど、お母さんは幼い子連れでベビーカーを押しているので、バランスを崩さないよう私がラブちゃんの相手をしました。

As Love's mom was pushing a pram with an infant inside, I diverted her attention towards me.

帰りに公園出口の草地でもう一度、草風呂。スリゴロして嬉しそうでしたが、ゴミが体につくし最後にシャンプーしたときから日数が経って臭い出しているので、そろそろ洗ってやろうと思います。

Before we left the park, Taiga had a rest on the grass again, keeping me in the sun.

今度はプラムの焼きチーズケーキ Baked Plum Cheese Cake

自家栽培プラムの エレファントハートを使ってベークト・チーズケーキを作りました。タルト生地にはデュラム粉も入れてサクサク、中種には粉末アーモンドを入れて香ばしくなっています。焼きたてでも冷蔵庫で冷ましても美味しいです。

I made a baked cheese cake with 'Elephant Heart' plums.  The tart crust includes fine semolina, whilst the filling batter includes ground almond.  It tastes delicious both as hot out of the oven as well as chilled in the fridge.

プラムタルト Plum Tart

せっかく生ったスモモをムダにしないために、冷菓のタルトにしてみました。使ったのは、外側にエレファントハートと、中央にマーキュリーです。エレファントハートは離核なので、スイーツには重宝します。

I made a tart with Elephant Heart (red) and Mercury (centre) plums.  The stone of the Elephant Heart can be removed easily and, with its attractive colour and firm flesh, this variety is ideal for use in sweets.

公園で At the park

 今朝は特に蒸し暑い天気だったので、柿の木広場なら風に当たれるかと思って行ってみました。久しぶりに会えた日本スピッツのアンジーちゃん。

Another muggy day.  We went to the Persimmon Park, hoping to get some breeze.  We met Angie, a female Japanese Spitz.  Taiga and Angie have known each other since they were puppies. 

私のところへは飛んできたのに、タイガには少しよそよそしい反応。飼い主さんによると、最近は他所の犬がこれだけ近づいてもアンジーが吠えないのはタイガと他に数頭だけになったそうで、社交化の後退のようです。

She seems to have become skittish as she got older and now Taiga is one of the few dogs with whom Angie does not go into panic when approached.

常にソワソワしています。その間、タイガは飼い主さんに挨拶。

She is restless all the time.

When she saw Taiga getting a lot of attention from her dad,

飼い主さんの膝に前脚を乗せて「かまって」アピール。

Angie put her paws on her dad's knee.

嬉しそうな顔。ワンコがほんの少し口を開けると下あごが見えてくるのですが、そのアゴがどんな犬のも本当に可愛い。

Now she looks happy.

柿の木広場は期待に反して完全無風状態だったので、道をはさんで向かいの茂呂山公園へ上ってみました。

As there was no breeze whatsoever in the Persimmon Park, we crossed the road and went up to the Moroyama Park.

タイガの表情が湯だったように暑そうです。

Due to her colouring, Taiga looks really hot and bothered.

写真で見ると爽やかな緑の広場の印象ですが、蒸し風呂のように暑かったです。こういう天気の日は家の中にいるのが一番です。

Another disappointment - even on this higher ground, there was no movement of air, so we headed home.

フィンガーライム Finger Limes

 フィンガーライム苗は全て去年の春から初夏にかけて買ったものですが、今年は２苗に実が着いています。

これは「赤実」として売られていたもので、オーストラリアのサイトで調べたら単に赤味系として売られていて、何かの品種名があるわけではないようです。野生種かもしれないので結実までは何年もかかると覚悟していたのですが、嬉しいサプライズです。

Finger lime: the plant was sold as 'Red' and had no specific variety name.  

今生っているのは以下の３個です。

こちら↓は「ダラムズエメラルド（Durham's Emerald）」で、濃い緑色の果肉が期待されます。今生っているのは、初夏の開花からの大き目のが４個に加え、真夏になってからの開花からの実が数個。

Variety called 'Durham's Emerald' with 4 large fruits from spring flowering, and several small fruits from summer flowering.

先日　実着きで買ったパッションフルーツの実が自然落果して以来、追熟させていました。表面にシワが出てから食べるそうですが、ここ２，３日まるで完熟グアバのような匂いを放って誘惑していました。

The passion fruit plant I bought recently already had 2 fruits.  One of them (green one) dropped off 2 days after I bought the plant.  The dark one stayed on to maturity and fell off several days ago.  The fruit started to emit fragrance a few days ago and I could not wait any more.

切ってみると追熟完了のような外観。実際に食べてみると、甘酸っぱくてとても美味しかったです。パッションフルーツはまだ栽培リストに載せていませんが、来年の今頃になっても順調ならカテゴリーを作る予定です。

It was ready for eating and tasted delicious.
