ローガンベリーのベークトチーズケーキ Baked Cheesecake with Loganberries

 夏に冷凍保存したローガンベリーがまだ沢山残っているので、ベークトチーズケーキを作ってみました。ローガンベリーのツルは来年用に数本、元気に育っています。

I made a baked cheesecake with home-grown Loganberries which I had preserved as frozen.  The cheesecake tastes just like a regular raspberry cheesecake.

公園で At the park

 ドッグランへ向かう途中、売店のある広場で秋田犬をみかけました。灰色の虎柄です。名前は「ポン」君、10歳だそうです。

Just before reaching the dog park, we saw a new face - 10-year old, male Akita Inu, named 'Pon'.

ドッグランに入ると、先週の日曜日に初めて会った「一家」が迎えてくれました。レオンベルガー２頭とバーニーズが一緒に飼われているそうです。バーニーズでさえかなりの大型犬ですが、レオンベルガーは超大型犬なので、３頭がひとつの部屋で寝そべっていると、人間は足の踏み場に気をつけて移動しなければならないそうです。一緒に写り込んでいる真っ黒のフレンチブルドッグは、レオンベルガーの女の子のファンです。

When we entered the dog park, the 'large-dog family' came to welcome us: two Leonbergers (male and female) and a female Bernese Mountain Dog living in the same family.  The black French Bulldog is a fan of the female Leonberger, happening to be sniffing the Bernese.

四六時中こうやってひっついている。この姿勢はフレンチの後脚にかなりの負担がかかるはずですが、フレンチ本人はまったく気にならないようです。レオンベルガーという犬種は優しい気性なのでガマンしてやっているようです。

This is the usual scene.  He is obsessed with the female Leonberger.  Luckily for the Frenchy, the Leonberger girl is a very tolerant individual.

やはり先週の日曜日に初めて見かけた、甲斐犬のラッキー君が到着。

The Kaiken we met last Sunday, named Lucky, has arrived.

Unfortunately for Taiga, Lucky is more interested in playing with other dogs of his own generation.

今日もドッグランは大盛況でしたが、その喧噪を忘れさせるのが帰りに寄った屋敷林。ここはいつ来ても人気がないので、いろんな鳥の鳴き声が聞けます。

After the mayhem of the dog park, it was nice to walk through the private woodland on our way home.  I never see anyone else walking in these woods and I can enjoy the singing of many different kinds of birds.

他は紅葉が終わっているので、この屋敷林が最後です。

These are the last of autumn leaves this year.

ツリーケーキ Tree Cake

シンプルなツリーケーキを作りました。ケーキの真ん中を円錐状にくり抜いて逆さに立て、抹茶でツリーに見立ててあります。くり抜いた箇所には果物が詰まっています。白いクリームは、クリームチーズと生クリームを混ぜたものなので、バタークリームほどには胃にもたれません。

I made a tree cake, covered with cream cheese frosting.  The centre of the sponge is carved out and filled with fruits.  The cone-shaped part which was carved out is used to look like a tree, coloured with matcha powder.

石地とカボスの収穫 Picking tangerines and kabosu

 昨日に続いて風のない晴天の日。城北中央公園からの帰りに茂呂山公園に上ってみました。写真ではまるで夕方のような陽ざしですが、朝です。

Another sunny day without cold winds.  On our way home from Johoku Park, we walked up the Moroyama Park.

落葉樹はほぼ葉っぱがなくなっています。

The deciduous trees are almost all bare.

道を登り切ったところの広場でオヤツタイム。ここのテーブルは見晴らしがよいのでピクニックランチに人気のようです。

From the top of the park, we can see the surrounding area and Johoku Park in the distance.  Eventually, we are told, that the green belt you can see on the horizon will be connected with where we are standing now.

帰り道に「こどもの森公園」の横を通ったら、もうロウバイが咲き始めていました。

Nearer to home, by the side of another park, we saw 'winter sweet' (Chimonanthus praecox) already flowering with its beautiful scent.

顔を近づけると良い香りです。一年のうち開花時期だけ見ごたえのある花木で、春から秋にかけては陰鬱な葉っぱに覆われています。

家の近くまで来たらビーグルのモモちゃんとばったり。

Momo, a 3-year old female Beagle.  We hardly see each other due to Covid but she remembers Taiga since she used to play with her from the time she was 4 months old.

公園では何年も見かけていませんが、モモちゃんが生後４か月のときからの知り合いなので、ちゃんとタイガのことを覚えています。

とうとうバルコニーの「石地フリー」を収穫。今までは地植えのタロッコに接いである田口早生を消費してきましたが、最近の寒さで石地の樹勢が落ちたように見えます。実を一挙に収穫すれば負担が減るでしょう。

Ishiji (Virus-free) has lost its vigour recently due probably to the cold weather and also from the burden of carrying the ripe fruits, so I decided to pick all of them.

外の明かりの中では朱色に近い濃い色でした。

The fruits were deep orange when seen outside,

もいだのを部屋の中で写したらあまり美味しそうに見えませんが、実際に食べてみると濃厚な甘さでした。

but the photo below shows them looking a little pale and not so inviting.  However, when I actually ate one, it was super sweet.

こちらは石地の横に置いてある種無しカボスの「香美の川」。今年が初成りです。カボスは果皮が緑のうちに利用すべきなのに今まで放置していました。和食を作るのが苦手なので実は何に使えばよいのか、持て余しているだけです。

Seedless Kabosu in a pot next to Ishiji.  You are supposed to use Kabosu fruits while the skin is green, when the flavour is supposed to be best.  The truth is, cooking Japanese dishes is not my strong forte and do not know how to use them.

ここまで黄色くなったらマーマレードにするのが良いかも。

Perhaps I will make marmalade.

すぐ横には去年買ったニンポウ金柑の苗もあります。種は入りますが、実が大きくてとても甘いので気に入っています。昔育てていたニンポウ金柑は、苗を買ったときは大実が着いていたのにそれ以降は何年たっても小さな実しかなりませんでした。が、この苗はそんな問題はありません。改良されたのでしょうか？

The Kumquat plant I bought in autumn last year doing better than expected.  The plant was tiny when I bought it and, yet, it was overladen with lots of huge fruits.  So, I should not have let it produce fruits this year, but I left it all up to the plant.

公園で At the park

久しぶりにドッグランに入ってみました。いきなりレオンベルガーの子が近づいてきたのでタイガは怯んでいます。

We went into the dog park for a change.  Immediately, a Leonberger came to greet Taiga.

レオンベルガーと一緒に飼われているバーニーズの子もやって来てタイガの臭いチェック。尻尾が下がって耳をすっかり倒れています。

Leonberger's brother, a Bernese, joined him in checking Taiga's scent.

レオンベルガーはとても穏やかな犬種なので、友達の秋田犬の横へ戻って休み始めました。

The Leonberger being a mature and quiet individual, he soon sat down next to his friend, a female Akita Inu, named Ume.

ロンゲの秋田犬、梅ちゃんだそうです。

Ume is a long-haired Akita.

真っ黒いフレンチの男の子がウメちゃんに近づいてきました。しきりにウメちゃんの気を引こうとしています。

ウメちゃんの耳を遠慮気味にパクパクしながら振り向いてくれるのを期待していますが、ムダでした。

He starts nibbling Ume's ear, but no success in catching her attention.

離れたところでは大騒ぎ。１歳未満のシェパードの子が狩られていました。

Elsewhere, there was a commotion - a German Shepherd puppy was being hunted by small dogs.

こんな小さい子らに追いかけられるということは、よほどエネルギーが弱いのかも。

For the German Shepherd to be chased like this, his energy must be very weak.

そのシェパードがタイガに近づいてきました。

The same GS approaches Taiga but Taiga, at 8 1/2 years old, shows no interest in playing with him.

このボクサー２頭は元気が有り余っていて、あちこち移動しながら大騒ぎしています。

目の前のボクサーたちに注目しているうちに、気づいたらワンコの洪水に巻き込まれていました。周りじゅうから揉まれている状態で、何ともシアワセな気分。

As I was absorbed in watching the two Boxers, I suddenly found myself in a flood of dogs and could not move - such a happy feeling, though.

その洪水が引くと、さっきの黒いフレンチの男の子がどさくさに紛れてまたウメちゃんに近づいています。

ふと気がつくと、タイガにそっくりな子が到着していました。赤虎の甲斐犬です。ただし、タイガのように太ってはいない。名前はラッキー君で、２歳台の男の子。

I noticed a new arrival - another Kaiken, and a red brindle at that！　A 2-year old male, named Lucky.

タイガも近づいて来て、さっそく臭いチェック。手前がその子で、後ろにいるのがタイガ。

Taiga came to check on him (Taiga in the back, and Lucky in front).

タイガは気になってしょうがないのに、その子はそっけない。

Despite Taiga's interest, Lucky is super aloof.

まるでタイガを避けるためのように、他の子らの輪に近づいていきます。

As if to avoid Taiga, Lucky tries to join other dogs.

タイガは道を塞ぐように前に出ます。

Taiga even steps in front of Lucky, but nothing happens.

Taiga is becoming a stalker.

避けられてばかり。

最後の試しにと、タイガが遊びに誘いますが、

ダメでした。

左のこの子は一瞬とおり過ぎただけですが、てっきり近所のリアちゃんかと思っていました。

This Doberman Pinscher puppy passed by and I though it was Leah, my neighbour's new puppy.

まだ子犬なのに怖いもの知らずで、あちこちで鼻を突っ込んでいるところもリアちゃんそっくり。飼い主さんによると、生後４，５か月の男の子。ブリーダーさんの情報によると、もう１頭、この地域にきょうだいの子が迎えられているそうです。

この子の顔つきも断尾の仕方もリアちゃんにそっくりです。

It turns out that the puppy is a boy.  However, he is also 4-5 months old, same as Leah.   He has the same face and the way the tail has been docked is also the same.  Moreover, according to the owner, he was told that another puppy of the same litter found an owner living in our area.  From all this, it is highly likely that Leah and this puppy were born together.

到着したばかりのボーダーの子にまでちょっかいを出していました。見ていて可笑しくてたまりません。

Just like Leah, he is fearless and pokes his nose into anything.  He now joins a Boxer in baiting a Border Collie who has just arrived.

ちょうどそこへフレンチの子がやって来て遊び相手になりました。

フレンチの子がこうやって互角に立ち向かえるのもあと２，３か月のことでしょう。

They are well matched for now but soon, the Doberman puppy will be too big for the Frenchy.
