Visit to plant shop in Nerima

Taking advantage of the nice weather, I went out after lunch to the large plant shop in Nerima on my bicycle.  The purpose was to buy white clover seeds that I could not get from the nearby JA.  The last time I visited this shop was in January this year, when my sciatica was at its peak - halfway, I began to regret bitterly.

The first thing I saw when I entered the shop today was this notice, announcing the forthcoming 'cat adoption event'.  I am an inveterate dog person, so I cannot join it, but I hope lots of cats will manage to get forever homes.  It will be held on the upstairs floor of this shop, on Sunday, 15th November.

In spite of Sunday and the fine weather, the shop was not crowded, which enabled me to walk about without feeling stressed.

I did not see many interesting flowers, but it was relaxing to look at them.

I did hesitate in front of this plant - one leftover baby kiwi plant whose price was reduced.

The label said 'large fruit baby kiwi', but that is not a proper variety name.  Without the proper name, I cannot tell whether it is self-pollinating or not.  If the plant had fruits on it, I could compare them with the fruits on the label, but there were none.  So, I finally walked away.

To my surprise, I saw goji berry plants.  They probably arrived recently, since there were so many of them.
Each pot had several stems growing out of the soil, and the plants measured about 90cm tall.

Here again, the label simply said 'goji berry' - which goji berry variety?  Looking at the stems up close, I noticed that they were more or less thornless.

Also, the leaves were tiny, just like my 'Shizuhama' goji berry plants.  They did not have many flowers, but they are currently blooming.  If I come back in early winter, I might be able to see some fruits.  No worry about the plants being sold out any time soon, since not many people living in cities know about goji berries.

Pink edible chrysanthemums - I used to grow this variety in the past but not anymore.

The problem with this variety is that the flowers turn slightly brown/black when they are fully open.  They may not look dark in this photo, but they were already sooty.

When I walked out to the open space,

I saw a persimmon tree at the back, laden with fruits.

The picture of orange persimmon fruits against the backdrop of a blue sky is symbolic of autumn in Japan.

After walking through each section of the shop, inside and out, I bought what I came for.  Earlier this year, I sowed white clover seeds in the narrow path in front of the porch.  By early summer, the ground was lush with clover leaves and Taiga happily lied down on the ground while I did gardening.  However, we were plagued this summer by typhoons passing one after another and the over humidity killed the clover.  Now, when I look at the grounds of parks, clovers are not abundant, but at least they have not disappeared like mine leaving the ground bare.  Nevertheless, I have decided to give it another try next spring.
