公園で At the park

 ドッグランへ行く途中の道で、うちの近所で時々見かける子に会えました。ワイヤーフォックステリアの女の子で、ウリちゃん、3歳半です。

On our way to the dog park, we met a female Wire Fox Terrier named Uri, aged 3 and a half.  

今までは見かけるだけで、実際に近づくのは今日が初めてでしたが、とてもフレンドリーな子です。

I had seen her near my home from a distance and today was the first time that we actually met.  She is a very friendly girl.

そこへ初めて見る子がやって来ました。小顔で綺麗な顔なので女の子かとおもいましたが、名前はルーク君、４歳だそうです。

A new face, male Corgi arrives.  Luke, aged 4 years old.

他所の犬には慣れていないのか、ウリちゃんが挨拶に近づくと、ソッポを向きました。

He is not used to playing with other dogs and, when Uri went to say 'hello', Luke turned his face away.

タイガが近づいても、ただただガマン。

When Taiga tried to approach, Luke would not even look at her.

吠えはしなくても、相当イヤなようです。

He did not utter a sound, but it was obvious that he was not enjoying being there.

ドッグランに入ると、さっそく臭い嗅ぎの挨拶を受けました。

We went into the dot park.

初めて見る大柄のボクサーですが、生後9か月の女の子で、」名前はチカちゃん。

小さなビーグルを気に入って、放そうとしません。

She was obsessed with a small Beagle and would not leave her alone.

小柄なビーグルが、どこまで遊びと思って付き合っているのか分からない状況でした。

I was not sure that the Beagle was enjoying it, but the owners were there.

その後、林を通って帰ることにしました。タイガが落ち葉の山を気に入ってグチャグチャにしたあと、オシリにはマヌケっぽくゴミがくっついています。

We walked through the woods to go home.  Taiga got excited with a mound of fallen leaves which she destroyed - she got leaves on her bottom.

ずっと向こうから柴犬のカリー君がやって来るのを見つけたようです。

She has spotted her friend, Curry, in the distance.

いきなり、あくびですか。

Curry greeted us with a bit yawn.

先日作ったビーフジャーキーを飼い主さんの手から与えてもらいました。気に入ってもらえたでしょうか。

I was carrying the beef jerky on me that I made recently, so I handed some to Curry's dad.

タイガも便乗していました。

チョコレートケーキ Chocolate Cake

 ザッハトルテ風のチョコレートケーキを作りました（チョコレートの羽はオマケ）。純ココアの粉で作りより遥かにしっとりした生地になります。

I made a chocolate cake in the Sachertorte style (except for the chocolate feather).

公園で At the park

東京は今日もポカポカ陽気で、近所の公園では河津桜が満開でした。 

Another warm day in Tokyo.  The cherry tree in the neighbourhood was already in bloom - an early blooming variety called 'Kawazu Sakura'.

公園のドッグランへ向かう途中、アルバスと同じ犬種のラブラドゥードルがやって来ました。名前はガウディ君、２歳半だそうです。

On our way to the dog park, we met a new face.  A Labradoole named Gaudi, aged 2 1/2 years old.

コートを長くしているので結構大柄に見えます。

Since his coat is kept long, he looks huge.

ランの手前、お肉屋さん横の草地で甲斐犬のヒナに会えました。

At the field near the dog park, we met Hina.

しかも、今日は新しい妹も来ていました。名前はセナ、まだ2か月台の甲斐犬子犬ですが、毛色が白です。

Hina has a new sister, another Kaiken, named Sena.  Taiga goes to say 'hello'.

Sena is 2 hand a half months old and has had only one vaccine so far.  She still has 2 more to go, before being allowed to walk on the ground outside.

タイガを怖がる様子は全くないのですが、借りて来た猫のようにおとなしくしています。でも、家の中では暴れまわっているそうなので、外慣れしていないだけのようです。まだ1回目のワクチンが終わっただけなので、地面を駆け回れるのは先のことです。

Although born of Kaiken parents, Sena has pale coat.  Unfortunately, the Kaiken Association does not recognise white coats and they do not issue pedigree certificates for white Kais.

久しぶりに会うカリー君。カリーとコンちゃんのためにビーフジャーキーを作っておきながら、今朝は持ち歩いていなかったので上げられませんでした。喜ぶ顔を見たかったのに。

We also met Curry!  I made beef jerky for him but forgot to carry it with me this morning.

2歳になり、顔がだんだんと大人のオスらしくなってきています。

ドッグランに入ると、ホワイトレトリーバーが数頭集まっていました。今までこの公園では、REX、ロイ君、ホトリちゃんしか見たこと無かったので珍しいです。

We went into the dog park where we saw a lot of White Retrievers.

みんな楽しそうにして、フレンドリーな子たちばかりでした。

They were all friendly and happy looking individuals.

タイガは飼い主さんの一人に挨拶。おとなしい甲斐犬は珍しいと、写真を撮ってもらっていました。

Taiga went to say 'hello' to one of the owners.  She was delighted since the image she had of the Kai was vicious dogs.

春の兆し Signs of Spring

 家の北西側で今年もフキノトウが出ていました。去年は気づくのが遅すぎたので、今年は早めに確認しました。

これでも、うちでは豊作です（自然豊かなところに住んでいる人が見たら笑われそうですが。）少量でもフキ味噌にして季節を味わえます。

Edible wild plant in my garden: 

Japanese Butterbur (Petasites japonicus) flower sprouts - they can be cooked as tempura, or preserved with miso.

バラ科果樹の蕾がほころび始めています。これはスモモのマーキュリー。今年が栽培2年目なので、去年よりずっと沢山ついています。とても美味しい品種だということが確認できたので楽しみです。

こちらは暖地サクランボ。スモモ苗よりもずっと進んでいます。

タイムの枝先が冬の間に赤っぽくなりました。買ったときの枝先はクリーム色だったのですが、この状態のほうが気に入っています。

庭の様子を見回っている間に、タイガがフラフラと家の裏へ行っていました。立ち入り禁止だと知ってのことなので、名前を呼ぶとすっ飛んで来ました。

As I was looking at the plants in the garden, Taiga had wandered off to the back of the house where she was not supposed to go (I store old plant pots there and I do not want her to trip over them).  When I called her name, she rushed back with a guilty face.

フランスパン French Bread

 フランスパンを焼きました。粉はリスドォル100%で水分は70%です。

I made French bread with 70% hydration.

ホトリちゃん White Retriever friend

 公園からの帰り道、途中にある屋敷林を通りました。

On our way home from the park, we passed through the privately-owned woodland open to the general public.

きょうの東京は最高気温が19℃もあったそうで、春のような陽気でした。

The maximum temperature today was 19℃ and it felt like a spring day.

屋敷林の中の開けた場所に来ると、ヤブ椿が咲いていました。一重の素朴な花です。

When we reached an opening, there was a wild camellia tree in bloom.

こちらは園芸種。ピンクの濃淡が何ともいえない美しさで、見ているうちに吸い込まれそうです。

そこへ近所のホワイトレトリーバーの「ほとり」ちゃんが来ました。まだ3歳未満の若い女の子です。

There came Hotori, female White Retriever, belonging to my neighbour.

タイガと並ばせて写真を撮ろうということになりましたが、お互い視線が合ったとたんに、ほとりちゃんは「遊び！」と勘違いして大興奮することが３回も続いて、飼い主さんに叱られました。

We wanted to take photos of them sitting side by side, but the moment they faced each other, Hotori got all excited thinking it was a play.  She got told off by her mom.

今度は、叱られるような事態は避けようと、タイガのほうを向こうとしません。

Now, Hotori would not face Taiga so as to avoid the risk of being told off.

やっと２頭ともカメラの方角を向いて座りましたが、距離をとってお互いを無視。

Finally, we managed to get them sit facing the camera, but keeping a distance from each other.

私が無理矢理タイガをほとりちゃん側に押しやると、依然としてお互いをシカト。

I pushed Taiga towards Hotori, but they still kept ignoring each other.

これがベストショットでした。本当に動物は撮影に非協力的です。

This was the best picture we could get.  Animals are impossible.

玄関前に置いてある「星タンゴール」を試し採りしました。この品種の収穫期は４-５月とされていますが、今の時期でも十分美味しいです。

I picked 2 fruits from my 'Hoshi Tangor' potted plant to see how ripe they were.  They are supposed to mature during April to May, but I wanted to eat an orange today.

果重は157gで、オレンジより小ぶりです。

Hoshi Tangor is a smallish fruit, and this one weighed 157g.

見た目ほど酸っぱくなく、とても爽やかな美味しさです。

The taste was very fresh and delicious.

ワンコ用にビーフジャーキーを作りました。柴犬のコンちゃんやカリー君たちの顔を思い浮かべながら。以前、豚肉で作ったのをとても喜んでくれたので、また会うのが楽しみです。
