公園で At the park

公園の黄葉はほぼ終わってしまいました。何ともわびしい。 

The deciduous trees have mostly lost their leaves, which makes me feel that we really are at the end of the year.

川沿いを歩いていたら、柴犬のキリュウ（輝龍）が向こうからやって来ました。

As we were walking, Kiryu, a young male Shiba Inu, came towards us.

なぜか、キリュウは自分より何倍も年上のタイガを仲間のように軽々しく扱います。コメディアンのようで、いつも笑わされます。

For some unknown reason, Kiryu always treats Taiga as if she were his pal - Taiga is a few times older than Kiryu.  He is like a comedian and makes me laugh every time.

初めて会うサモエドの子犬。ラムちゃん、生後5か月の女の子。コートがまだ生えそろっていないのでホワホワです。

A new face - 5 months old, female Samoyed named Ramu.  She is so fluffy like a cotton candy, with her half grown coat.

家族に大切にされて健やかに育っている、という印象の子です。

It is obvious that her family loves her and takes best care of her, so she is affectionate with everyone.

ライちゃん、1歳半、黒虎の女の子。真っ黒です。飼い主さんによると、カンタには会ったことがあるそうですが、ヒナとセナには未だだそうです。この公園で出会う甲斐犬は少ないので、ぜひ会えることを願っています。

We met a new Kaiken who was playing in the dog park.  She is a 1 1/2 years old girl named Rai.  She is black as night and I could hardly see any brindles.  The owner says he has seen Kanta, a brown brindle male, but has not seen Hina (black brindle) or her sister Sena (white with no brindles).  Hopefully, they will meet each other soon, since our Kaiken community is so small.

朗らかな性格で、タイガと仲良くなれそうです。

Rai has a happy disposition and I am sure she will get on well with Taiga.

ライちゃんが飼い主さんに呼ばれて金網のところに留まっていたので、友達が迎えに来ました。こてつ（虎鉄）君、秋田犬と甲斐犬のハーフだそうです。

As Rai was staying with her owner and me at the fence, her friend, Kotetsu came to take her back.  According to Rai's owner, Kotetsu is half Akita and half Kaiken.

言われなければ、小さめの純粋な秋田犬だと思ってしまいそうなくらい、甲斐犬のヒントが見当たりません。

Unless told, I would have taken Kotetsu for a pure Akita, although on the small side -  I do not see any hint of a Kaiken.

ラッキー君、14歳。随分と若々しい14歳です。この子は黒柴と北海道犬のハーフだそうです。それを聞いた後でも100%黒柴に見えます。でも飼い主さんに言われて体に触ってみたら、毛の質が柴犬とは全然違います。背中に蓑毛がなく、体全体が柔らかい毛でびっしり覆われています。しかも、年に数回の換毛期があって、今もその真っ最中。そうっと毛をつまんで引っ張ると、ゴソッと抜けてきました。

As we moved to another part of the park, we met another new face, Lucky, a 14-year old male.  He looks very young for a 14 year old.  Moreover, he is half Black Shiba and half Hokkaido-ken.  Again, if his mom did not tell me that, I would have taken him for a 100% Shiba Inu.  Interestingly, his mom showed me that his coat was different from that of a Shiba Inu.  He does not have a top coat and his body is covered with short, soft fur. 

ジジちゃん、４歳、日本スピッツ。とてもおとなしい女の子で、そうっとタイガに近づいて挨拶、そのあとサッと離れて行きました。

A new face - 4 years old, female Japanese Spitz named Gigi.  She is a very gentle creature and Taiga treated her like a piece of China.

近所散歩 Neighbourhood walk

お昼すぎに家を出て近所を歩いていたら、ネコがタイガを意識しながら道を横切りました。集合住宅の駐輪場へ入り、柵の向こうからタイガを見ています。

When we went out after lunch for Taiga's 3rd walk of the day, a cat crossed the road ahead of Taiga.  It went into a bicycle park of a condominium and started looking at Taiga from behind the wire fence.

頭を出したり隠したりで、いかにもタイガがからかわれている印象でした。ネコは私にとってナゾの生き物。対してワンコは分かり易いところが好きです。

The cat kept bobbing its head as if to tease Taiga from the safe place.  I can never understand cats - dogs are so straight forward without hidden agenda.

少し歩いたら、久しぶりにコーギのヒメ子にばったり。タイガが子犬の頃、毎朝草地で犬社会のマナーを叩き込んでくれたので、私にとっては恩人、タイガにとってはコワイ存在。

As we walked on, we met Himeko, a female Corgi, who taught manners of the doggie community to Taiga when she was a puppy.  I owe so much to her but, for Taiga, she is still a teacher to be feared.

ヒメ子はタイガより２歳くらい上なので、さすがに目つきが年齢をうかがわせます。タイガも同様に、ポヨヨ～ンとした目つきになりました。

Himeko is about 2 years older than Taiga and her eyes show the age.  Taiga's eyes are just the same.

タイガがいつまでもヒメ子パパにでれでれしているので、自分の頭をこすりつけて「もうお終い！」と主張しています。

As it looked Taiga would go on forever snuggling up to her dad, Himeko tried to tell him "That's enough" by pushing her head against his arm.

12月はドウダンツツジが紅葉する時期。燃えるような赤で周りから浮き立っています。

A bush of Enkianthus perulatus in autumn colour, just before shedding its leaves.  It is so radiant that it looks like on fire.　　　　　

珍しい斑入りダイダイの大きな木を見かけました。

A Japanese bitter orange (daidai) tree with fruits.

いつもは園芸店で鉢植えの苗しか見たことないので、マジマジ見入りました。

Normally, I see this tree as a small potted plant in the shop, so it is a rare sight to see such a mature tree.

「地球柑」とも呼ばれるだけあって、まん丸。緑色のスジは地球儀の経度を示す縦線を連想させます。

This 'variegata' variety is also known as "chikyu-kan" which means 'globe citrus'.  It is almost perfectly round and the stripes are suggestive of longitude lines.

ある家の前を通ったら、これ↓が目にとまりました。私の大好きな「甘柿」ですと。

I saw this box in front of a house.  It says "Sweet persimmon fruits - please feel free to take".

箱の中を覗いてみたら、もうほとんど空っぽになっていました。よほど美味しいのでしょうか。でも誘惑に抵抗して、いただかずに帰宅しました。先日他の家で柚子をもらったばかり。他人の厚意を享受するのは「ときどき」が心地よいので。

The fruits must be sweet and delicious, since the box was almost empty.  I resisted the temptation and came home.  I like receiving other people's kindness only from time to time, not all the time - only a few days ago, I got the yuzu fruits.

早宮で Morning walk

私が住んでいる地域は石神井川を底に、両側は丘陵地帯になっています。今日は川を渡って早宮地区を歩いてみました。急な坂を登り切ったところで素敵な集合住宅がありました。以前、散歩中に話込んだ年輩のご夫婦から聞いた場所。現在住んでいる家を処分して、ここの物件を購入しようか考えているということだったので、いつか行ってみようと思っていました。ここも含め、とても静かで上品な雰囲気のエリアです。

The area I live in is very hilly.  With the Shakujii River at the bottom, we have undulating terrain on both sides.  We crossed the river this morning to walk an area little known to me.  I recently met an old couple during our walk, who told me that they were thinking of selling their house and buying a unit in a condominium in this area.  So, I was curious to actually seeing the site.  I found it at the top of a steep hill and the area was very pleasant and quiet.  

全体はかなり大型な物件で、ユニット数は多そう。

It seems a very large development with many units.

道に面している部分（赤で表示）だけでも広域ですが、その背後、丘の斜面に沿って他のユニットが続きます。丘は南向きなので日当たり良好。この近くには開進第１小学校があるので、子育て世代に向いた物件だと思います。そして、道を挟んで前には公園。

The side facing the street is vast enough, but the units behind these are spread out on the side of a hill that faces the south.  There is an elementary school not far from here.  In front of the condo, across the street, is a park.

ワンコ禁止。

"No dogs", it says.

公園のあちこちにイラスト入りのタイルが埋め込まれています。

I saw a lot of tiles with illustrations, buried in many places.

その一つに、この公園の説明がありました。人物を描いたイラストは古代人をイメージするものになっているようです。

It seems that ancient ruins were found here in the past, and little children participated in the investigation.  The relics were buried again, so that people might enjoy the same experience in some future time.  The children's illustrations of the tiles depict supposed ancient people and articles they used.

帰宅してくつろぐタイガ。蚊のいない涼しい季節の定番風景です。ここで道行く人たちを眺めているとファンの方々に声をかけてもらえるので、門のところまですっ飛んで行きます。

After arriving home, Taiga took up her position in front of the porch.  During cooler months when there is no mosquito, Taiga loves sitting in this spot.  She watches people go by.  Some of them are her fans and they call her name at the gate.  She rushes to them to be stroked.  She loves getting adulation from her fans.

公園で At the park

 昨夜の12時過ぎから降り出した雨は、今朝9時近くになってやっと止みました。ずっと小雨程度の降り方でしたが、こんなに長時間降ったのは久しぶりです。おかげで２，３日は庭の水やりをしなくて済みそうです。午後２時頃の散歩で城北中央公園へ行きました。

The rain that started just after midnight lasted until nearly 9 a.m. this morning.  The rain was not heavy but we have not had rain with such a long duration for months.  Thanks to that, I would not have to water my garden for the next few days.  We headed for the Johoku Central Park at 2 p.m.

天気の影響か人影はほとんどなし。雨でイチョウの葉っぱが随分と落ちたので、まるで根元あたりに日が差したように明るい印象。

Due probably to the overcast sky, there were hardly any people in the park.  Ginkgo trees have lost most of their leaves and the bottom of the tree looks as if lit up with a spot light.

上のほうの広場にあるこのイチョウの木は、黄葉するタイミングがいつも遅い。タイガがあちこち私を引っ張るので、写真を撮るあいだ柵につないでおきました。こういうときも黙ってジッと待っている甲斐犬です。

This gingko tree is one of the last to turn yellow every year.  I tied Taiga to a fence as she was pulling me left and right, and I nearly dropped my camera.  She waited for me patiently while I walked about.

It really is the end of golden autumn and it makes me a little pensive - I really have lived a long life.
