散歩 Walks

 今朝は石神井川を城北公園とは反対の練馬方向へ歩きました。折り返し地点手前のお地蔵さん。

We walked along the river this morning, in the opposite direction to the Johoku Park.  Near the turnaround point, we passed the jizo statue.

真冬でも新鮮な切り花や鉢植えが置かれています。

Even in the middle of winter, they have fresh cut flowers and potted plants.

帰りに通った住宅街で、民家の庭先に置いてある金魚の水槽を覗いてみました。

On our way home, we walked through the residential area where there was the house with two goldfish tanks in front of the garden.

２つの水槽のうち左側の金魚たちは寒さのせいか全く動かず、まるでスチル写真を見ているかのようでした。

Of the two fish tanks, the residents in the left one were not moving at all, probably due to the cold weather.  It was like looking at a still photo.

右の水槽には動きあり。水槽右端のかたまりに近づいて眺めていると、

There was life in the fish tank on the right.  When I approached the group of fish on the far side,

目の前でゆらり、ゆらりと水中ショーを披露してくれました。

they displayed a slow-motion water show in front of me.

私がお昼ご飯の準備をしている間、テレビの前で日向ぼっこをしながら二度寝するタイガ。

Back home, while I was preparing lunch in the kitchen, Taiga was having a nap in the sun light.

悩みのなさそうな様子を眺めていると、こちらも平和な気分になります。

Looking at her trouble-free sleeping face, I felt at peace.

タイガがお昼ご飯あとの昼寝から目覚めると、地元でオシッコ散歩。近所に住むトイプードルのモモちゃんとばったり。大興奮で近づいて来ます。

After Taiga's post-lunch napping, we went out for a brief walk in the neighbourhood.  Momo, a female Toy Poodle, came rushing towards us.

興奮して跳ね回るので、普段は垂れている耳も振り回されます。

In her excitement, she jumped about, and her ears were all over the place.

オヤツを期待して二人とも更に興奮。

They knew that a treat was on the way and got even more excited.

地平線の雲 Clouds on the horizon

 午後の散歩で隣の地区の高台を歩いていたら、ちょっと珍しい光景を見かけました。今日は雲一つ無い青空だと思っていたのに、丘の上から見下ろす家々の向こうに雲がかかっていました。

While out walking in the afternoon, I saw clouds tucked behind houses in the distance.  Until then, I thought it was a clear day without a spec of cloud in the sky.  

ズームで少しずつ拡大すると、こう。

Using the zoom function, I can see it better.

私が景色に見とれている間 足元でジッと待っていたタイガにとっては、どうでもいいことか。

Taiga was patiently waiting at my feet as I was looking at the scenery below.

おやつ Treat

今日はしみじみと寒い一日でした。今年の小寒は１月5日から始まっているそうですが、雨も降らないのに本当に寒い日でした。タイガの散歩を早めに切り上げるには、おやつを持ち出すのが最も効果的。今日も、最近気に入っている人間のおやつ用の煮干しです。

It was a really cold day today - the kind of cold air that clings to you.  We are in the first half of the coldest period of winter, i.e., from 5th to 19th January, which will be followed by the colder, second half from 20th Jan to 2nd Feb this year.  To cut the morning walk short, giving a treat to Taiga is the most effective way.  So, out comes the dried sardine that has become my favourite recently (these sardines are sold for human consumption as snack).

朝散歩 Morning Walk

 公園に向かう途中、久しぶりに会ったビアデッド・コリーの女の子、リセ、５歳。随分と会っていなかったけど、ワンコ同士はすぐに分かったようです。

On our way to the park, we met Lyse, a 5-year old female Bearded Collie.  Although we had not seen each other for some time, the dogs recognised each other straight away.

それでも私に向かって挨拶に来ました。

公園に着いたらタービュレンのルイ君に会えました。コロナ以来、どのワンコに会うのも久しぶりになります。最後にルイ君に会ったのは去年の夏だったような記憶。

At the park, we met Louis, a male Tervuren.  Since Covid, meeting almost all dogs seems to be after a long absence.  I think we last met Louis in summer last year.

私の憧れのタービュレン。犬種で迷っていたときタービュレンに惹かれていましたが、ワンコの老後の世話を考えて、最終的に中型犬の甲斐犬にしました。でも実際には、タイガはルイ君とほぼ同じ体格で、体重はタイガのほうが上です。

How I love Tervuren.  When I was undecided what breed to choose, I was most attracted by Tervuren.  However, I chose Kaiken in the end, since I thought a medium-sized dog might be easier to take care of in the dog's old age.  I never thought that my Kaiken would grow to be almost as large as a male Tervuren - Taiga is heavier than Louis.

ルイ君はタイガよりも１歳半ほど年下ですが、タイガに対して強気。タイガにとっては大好きなボーイフレンドの存在です。

Louis is about 1 1/2 years younger than Taiga, but he is dominant towards her.  For Taiga, Louis is a favourite boyfriend (there used to be two others, but they have passed away of old age).

ここからちょっとテンション上昇で遊びモードに入ります。

Now they are getting into a playful mode.

いつもならここでルイ君のお尻キックが決まるのですが、今日はリードを短く握られているので不可能でした。

Normally, Louis would give Taiga a 'butt-kick' by spinning and hitting Taiga's face with his rear end.  However, today, his mom held the leash too tight for him to do the trick.

やっぱりタービュレンは美しい。

The Tervuren is such a beautiful dog.
