洋ナシの赤ワイン煮　Poached pears in red wine sauce

スーパーで形の良い洋ナシを見かけたので、赤ワイン煮にしてみました。ワインはチリ産の、濃厚さを売り物にした銘柄でした。アルコール度数は13度。加熱でアルコールを飛ばしたあとは、ワインの濃厚さが残りました。

I saw beautiful pears in the shop and made them into poached pears in red wine. The wine from Chile had an extremely deep taste of grapes.

無点赤花オニユリ球根　Bulbs: Red Oniyuri with no spots

オニユリというとあの朱色の花びらに黒いポツポツを思い浮かべますが、珍しい無点のオニユリの球根をオクで落札しました。その球根がさっき届いて開けてびっくり。出品されていたときは７個の球根としてでしたが、実際に届いたのは８個入りでした。ありがとうございます！

球根はまだまだ幼いですが、実際にユリを種から育てた人にしか分からない忍耐があってこそ、この状態になるのです。オニユリの場合はムカゴができるので、少しは時間短縮できますが、うちの種からの口紅ヤマユリは、４年前の今頃種が届いて、ジップロック撒きで発根までに２年、その後葉っぱが出始めるまでにさらに数か月、そして今やっと15センチほどの苗が2本だけ、育っています。その状態では球根のサイズは、この↓写真の一番小さな球根程度かもしれません。

とにかく、開花まで何年かかろうと、これら8本全てが咲きそろった風景を想像しながら、大切に育てて行きます。

パッションフルーツに蕾　Flower Buds on Passion Fruit Plant

７月に買ったパッションフルーツの苗は、この↓7月26日時点の状態からグングン育ってしまいました。

この苗は、上の写真の右側の苗の現在。行灯仕立てにしたのがジャングル状態です。

上の写真の左側の苗は、この↓写真の左側。キウイ棚のキットを買って組み立てたものがあったので、キウイのツルが伸びてくるまでの有効活用のつもりでしたが、どんどんわが物顔で絡みついています。

The one on the left is the same plant as that one on the left in the first picture.

この状態で冬越しはできるのでしょうか。今更ほどくのも大変なので、本気で育てるかどうか、まだ迷っています。

It has grown well in the tropical summer, but I am worried what happens in winter.

上の写真の右側の苗には、数か所に蕾が確認できています。これは日本でもっとも普及している品種ですが、自家結実性があるのかまだ調べていません。まさか、こんなに早く蕾が出るとは思ってもいなかったので。

The plant on the right is getting flower buds again. Since this pot is in 'stand-alone' condition, I can take it inside when the weather turns cold.

公園で At the park

今日も朝から蒸し暑い一日でした。四中横の草地に着くと、草地の奥にあるコナラの木が青々として美しい姿。もっと近寄って見るために草地を横切ろうとしたら、

Another hot and humid day. When we arrived at a field near the Johoku Park, I saw a beautiful tree at the other side of the field, and wanted to walk up to it.

タイガが私をベンチのところまで引っ張っていきました。タイガの記憶する数少ない人間の言葉の一つが「ベンチ」で、それはオヤツを貰えるところ。結果、私がベンチという言葉を言わなくても、ベンチを視覚でとらえ、オヤツと結びつけるようになりました。

However, Taiga had another idea and pulled me to the bench. One of the few words she knows is 'bench' and she has come to associate that word with the shape of benches, where she can expect a treat.

She is determined to get a treat.

私はあの木に向かって歩きたいのですが、タイガが踏ん張っています。

何とかタイガを引っ張って草地を横切りました。とても涼し気な形の良い木です。

After I gave in to Taiga's demand, we walked closer to the tree which looked so fresh and beautiful. Xerxes might have admired such a tree in a plane.

実が色づき始めたので、ハトの群れが上のほうの枝で実を食べていました。公園の他のコナラの木に掛けられている看板によると「果肉には甘味があるので昔は餡子に見立てて食べられていた」という内容の説明があります。黒く色づいた実を試しに食べてみたことありますが、涙目になりました。

The tree had lots of fruits and pigeons were eating the ripe, black ones up in the branches.

帰りの草地で久しぶりに会ったジャックラッセルテリアのジアちゃん、１歳の女の子。タイガのことを覚えていて、飼い主さんを引っ張って近づいてきました。

We passed another field on our way home, and met Jia, one-year old, female Jack Russell Terrier, after a long absence.

とてもなつこくて可愛い子です。

Jia is a very friendly, sweet girl.

私に挨拶したあとはタイガを遊びに誘っていました。

Jia started inviting Taiga to play but, unfortunately, this field is not for dogs to run about, since this is a favourite spot for elder folks.

公園で At the park

今日も秋晴れの良い天気。城北公園の川沿いの道を通ってドッグランへ向いました。

Another dry day, which was a welcome thing after the recent typhoon rains, so we headed towards the dog park.

緑を背景に土手のヒガンバナが映えます。

ランに到着。入口の囲いの中へ入ると、数頭がチェックしに来ました。右の柴はコムギちゃんです。左の真っ白な子は最近見かけるようになったサクラちゃんで、遠くから見ると紀州犬の血が入っているような印象。

When we got inside the holding pen of the dog park, some dogs came to check us. Komugi, female Shiba Inu, was one of them.

初めて見るラブラドゥードル。２頭一緒に飼われているそうです。

Komugi was following me, rather than Taiga - so sweet.

フレンチブルドッグのホップちゃんも、久しぶり。

A female French Bulldog named Hop, another of Taiga's friends.

初めてみる黒ラブの仔犬。まだ生後6か月だそうで体が小さいのが可愛い。ついさっきまで大きな大人たちにもまれて逃げ回っていましたが、もうケロリとした顔。

A new face - female Labrador puppy, 6 months old. She had just been chased around by large older dogs but she recovered instantly the moment she was released, ready for another scuffle.

今度はホップちゃんを誘っています。

She invites Hop to play with her.

仔犬は楽しくてしょうがない様子。ホップちゃんはオシリまでカワイイ。

The puppy is full of energy and looks so happy.

黒ラブは遊びのマナーを心得ていて、決してホップちゃんを嚙もうとはしません。

She already has the manner how to play and never bites Hop.

ホップちゃんは体力的にタフ、かつ大きな犬と遊ぶのが好きなので、ちょうど良い組み合わせのようです。

Hop is a tough little creature full of stamina, and she loves playing with large dogs.

ときどき他のワンコたちが近づいて来ても無視で、二人で延々とじゃれていました。

When other dogs approached them, they simply ignored.

和犬のほうはというと、涼しい気候のせいかタイガが珍しくドッグランで走る気が出たようです。若いもの相手に結構はしゃいでいましたが、走っている写真はどれもブレてしまいました。コムギちゃんそっくりの柴は男の子で、今日初めて見ました。

As the air was cooler than recently, Taiga was energetic for a change (but no photos of her running - they were all blurred).

タイガおばさん頑張っています。

チョコレートタルトとパッションフルーツ・ソース Chocolate Tart with Passion Fruit Sauce

実着きのパッションフルーツ苗を買って、その実を収穫してみたら何とも美味しかったので、今度はスーパーで実を買ってきてタルトを作りました。あの香とハズレのない美味しさがすっかり気に入りました。

Earlier in the summer, I bought a passion fruit plant with a fruit on it and, when I tasted it, I fell in love with the fruit. Unfortunately, the fruiting season is over so I got some fruits in the supermarket to make this tart.

　公園で　At the park

今朝は「台風一過」の青空。用足しのあと家に帰りたがるタイガを説得しながら四中横の草地に着いたら、初めて見る子がちょうど到着したところでした。自転車カゴから降りてすぐ、タイガに向かって近づいてきました。

Once the typhoon was gone during last night, it was all blue sky this morning. When we arrived at the park, we saw a new face - Mugi, 4-year old female, looking a bit like a Corgi but mostly like a Shiba Inu.
