フェイジョアなど Miscellaneous

 園芸用の支柱を買いに近所のJAへ行ったら、デザートライムの接ぎ木苗が売られていました。立派な苗ですが、買う人いるのでしょうか。

I went to the gardening shop nearby to get some materials this afternoon, when I saw 'desert lime' grafted plants.  Quite healthy-looking, decent plants, but I wonder if there are people interested enough to buy.

値段は結構リーズナブルです。

The price is quite reasonable at 1,800 yen, considering the size of the plants.

フェイジョアがもう咲き始める季節のようです。うちに残っている品種は、アポロ、ニキタ、ウィキトウです。実の形状を見ずに果肉だけをブライドテイスティングしたら、私には違いが分からないほど似ていますが、せめて３品種を保持しているほうが実着きが良いです。

The feijoa (a.k.a. pineapple guava) plants in my garden are starting to flower.  I have 3 varieties: Apollo, Nikita and Wiki Tu.

ローガンベリーのワイマテが去年に増して豊作になりそうです。去年の実が一部まだ冷凍庫に残っているので、そのうち消費しなければ。

The loganberry plant, a variety called Waimate, is doing well.  This variety is so prolific that I still have some of last year's crop in my freezer.

耐寒性・耐暑性はブラックベリー並みに強いので便利な品種です。

Also, this variety is super resistant against both cold and hot weather, like blackberries.  

タイガの換毛期が始まりました。昨日のシャンプーのあと、ちょっと歩いただけで毛が柱のような塊りで浮き上がってきます。

Taiga has started to moult.  I shampooed her yesterday and, since then, lumps of loose hair rise to the surface as she walks and moves about.

玄関の外で延々とブラッシングすると蚊に襲われるので、中へ移動。ファーミネーターは優秀です。これ１本で、背中の長い毛から脚の数ミリの毛までゴッソリ取れます。

We moved inside the porch for brushing, since mosquitos are about outside.  The moulting period has only started and I shall be busy brushing her for the next 2 months.

これから２か月ちかく、抜け毛で廊下がザラザラします。スリッパの足で歩くと、シュルシュル音がするほどです（毎日掃除しても）。

パッションフルーツの続 More passion fruit flowers

 昨夜から今日の午後にかけた雨が降りました。特に今朝は滝雨のような降り方でびっくり。そんな中でもパッションフルーツの花は咲くので、今日のうちに授粉できるか心配でしたが、午後に雨が止んだので花粉が有効なうちに授粉作業をしました。

今日の開花は３個ですが、昨日は7個が開花しました。頭上の花に授粉作業するのは意外と首が痛くなります。

It rained through last night and this morning.  In particular, the rain this morning was like watching a water fall from behind.  Nevertheless, the passion flower plant kept flowering in the rain and I had to wait for the afternoon to pollinate, when it stopped raining.  Today, I had only 3 flowers to pollinate, while I was busy yesterday with 7 flowers to look after.

今日の３個目はオシベもメシベもまだ未熟なタイミングだったので、この写真の３時間後に再トライしました。

This one was not mature enough when I took this picture and I had to come back 3 hours later.

これは先日の第１花の実。初夏の気候で変化がさすがに早いです。

This young fruit is from the first flower of a few days ago.  Thanks to the warm weather, the progress is very obvious.

去年の秋に買ったテッポウユリ系の花。蕾がもう１個ありますがこれでも十分綺麗です。

まさにピンクのテッポウユリです。

操作ミス Postings lost

ラベル（カテゴリー）の変更をしようとしたら、数件の最近の投稿を失ってしまいました。グーグルブログは通知なしに操作方法を変更します。 昔はラベル変更を一括で行えたのが今はできなくなっているけど、裏ワザを教えているサイト（2019年現在）があったので、それを参考に操作したら記事を喪失しました。幸いYouTube動画に関しては同チャンネルから引っ張ってこれるので、無くした分を再掲。その他の記事は永遠に消失しています。

I lost several of my recent postings as I was trying to re-assign labels (categories).  The Blogger system changes ways of things from time to time, without any notification, and, in short, I mishandled changes.  At least, I could re-post the last two videos from YouTube, but other postings are lost for good.

公園で At the park

散歩で良く通る道で、中学の校庭の植え込みの下に紅二点、君子蘭が咲いていました。君子蘭は蘭ではなくヒガンバナ科だそうですが、種が飛んで増えるものではなく誰かが故意に植えたものでしょう。

Under the azalea hedge of a school ground, we saw Kaffir lily flowers.  Someone must have planted them.

北側で直射日光があまり当たらないせいか、色が濃く花が長持ち。

This hedgerow faces north, and the half-shade environment must suit these flowers.

こちらは公園の西洋トチノキ。もう花びらが散り始めています。

タイガはオヤツをもらった後は撮影に協力する気はなし。

Having eaten her treat, Taiga has no intention of co-operating with photos.

ちょうど近くをルイ君が通り過ぎたので、挨拶に降りて行きました。

Just at this moment, Louis, a male Belgian Tervuren, was passing by, and Taiga rushed down the slope to greet him.

 ルイ君は今年の４月で８歳になったそうで、９歳になったばかりのタイガより１歳下です。が、タイガにとってルイ君は３人いるボーイフレンドのひとり。まるで自分が年下のような挨拶です。

Louis is one of Taiga's 3 boy friends.  He has just become 8 years old, while Taiga became 9 years old on 6th of May.  Still, she behaves as if she were younger than Louis, trying desperately to appeal to him - rather embarrassing for me.

タイガの耳は終始ぺったんこのまま。

公園で At the park

 つい２，３日前まで毎日のように雨が降っていましたが、週間の天気予報どおりGW後半は晴天に恵まれています。公園までガンガン直射日光を浴びながら歩いているので、一旦公園に着くと日陰が有難い。

It rained almost every day until a few days ago, but now a spell of good weather is forecast.  We get baked on our way to the park, so once we arrive, any shade is much appreciated.

落葉樹はもう深い緑色です。

The deciduous trees are in heavy green leaves.

上のほうの広場で一休み。

We went up to the higher ground.  Considering it is the middle of the long holiday week (Japanese Golden Week), there were surprisingly few people.

タイガのコートは黒っぽくてすぐ熱くなるので、日陰に移動したら、冷たい草の上でスリゴロしていました。

Taiga's coat gets warm in the sun very quickly due to its colour, so I pulled her into the shade and she immediately started rolling on the cool grass.

公園からの帰り道、新しい「羽木憩いの森」で一休み。去年までは畑として実際に使われていたのが、相続が発生して今では公園目的に提供されています。

On our way home from the park, we looked into the grounds recently opened to the public.  It is privately-owned but its previous owner passed away last year and the former vegetable field is now left untouched.  This is another side of the ageing society.  When old people die, there is often no-one left to continue the farm.

春シオンは大抵が白花ですが、こういうピンクのを見ると綺麗で足止めしてしまいます。

桐の花が満開。こういう樹木を残してもらえると嬉しいのですが。

Paulownia trees in bloom.  I hope some of these ancient trees will be preserved when this field is eventually turned into a park.

ナツメなど Jujube etc

 去年の夏に鉢植えの大雪棗（スーパージャイアント）の枝を、地植えの新疆棗王に高接ぎしました。４か所のうち３か所が無事に越冬して、いまは直径１ミリくらいの小さな蕾が出ています。大実品種とはいっても鉢植えではまともなサイズの実が生ったことがないので、今年からは地植えパワーを発揮してほしいです。

I grafted 4 scions of a jujube called 'Super Giant' onto the Xinjian Jujube in the garden.  Super Giant is supposed to produce large fruits, as large as those of Xinjian Jujube, but not a single fruit with the plant growing in a pot.  Out of the 4 grafting, 3 survived the winter and they are now growing fast.  The Xinjian Jujube produced decent-sized fruits last year and I am hoping to see a similar result from Super Giant.

接ぎ穂にも勢いのある恒常的な枝が出ています。

去年はどのスモモ品種も豊作でしたが、今年は隔年性が出ているようです。今年から地植えにした彩の姫には１個だけ、エレファントハートも少な目です。マーキュリーに至ってはゼロ。

The plum trees are having a rest this year and I can see not so many young fruits.  Still, I am looking forward to these fruits on Elephant Heart which produces very delicious plums.

種無しスダチも、去年の鈴なりのあと今年は花が少な目です。

Seedless Sudachi also had abundant fruits last year and it is now having a rest this year.

スダチ苗を遠近で観察していたら、タイガが無言で「かまって」アピール。

As I was looking into the Sudach plant, Taiga had crept up hoping to get my attention.

そこで、買ってきたばかりのミニトマト苗を横においてカメラを向けたら何とか１枚撮れました。ミニトマトはどれも同じな印象ですが、今年のは「千果」という名前ので、甘くて豊産性だそうです。

So I placed the miniature tomato plant that I bought this morning and got a shot.

カスタードクリームチーズケーキ Custard Cream Cheesecake

 ゼラチンを使わないタルトです。固まる要素は、卵黄、クリームチーズ、薄力粉、レモンの搾り汁です。

Custard and cream cheese tart with no gelatin.  The egg yolks, cream cheese, a bit of cake flower, and juice of one lemon are the ingredients holding it together.

カラカラ、ナバホなど Cara Cara, Navaho etc

 数年前に地植えにして以来、１個しか収穫したことのないカラカラに今年はちゃんと実が生りそうです。普通のネーブルより小ぶりだけど、ピンクの果肉はとても甘かったので楽しみです。

The Cara Cara plant with flowers starting to bloom.  This tree produced one fruit the year I planted it in the garden but, since then, no flowers at all.  So, I am looking forward to picking fruits next spring.

ブラックベリーのナバホが咲き始めました。道路側のフェンスに絡ませてあります。ケインは１本しかありませんが、東向きなので朝一の日光を浴びてよく育っています。YouTubeではスイス人のひとが、ナバホを直立形に仕立てて鈴なりにしていました。このフェンスは来年以降はハンザに利用したいので、他に移して直立式を試す予定です。

Navaho blackberry plant (just one cane) with flowers.  Unfortunately, the Osage plant died out last summer and this is the only blackberry left.

The flowers are pale pink (although they look white in the pictures) and very pretty.

数か月前にスーパーで買った２個入りのユリ根を、１個は食してもう１個は分解して鉢に植えておきました。現在一か所にだけ芽が出ています。まるでミニチュアのパイナップルのクラウン。

I planted one of the edible lily bulbs that I bought in the supermarket some months ago and now a new shoot is coming out.  It is currently looking like a miniature pineapple crown.

つい先日届いたハマナス系のハンザに蕾が出始めています。この蕾を先頭に、まだ硬い蕾が他に３つあります。

The Rugosa Hansa that arrived recently has been growing new branches and I can count at least 4 flower buds now.  I am so excited and looking forward to seeing the flowers.

私がハンザの蕾で大感激していると、退屈したタイガが寄ってきました。

As I was so absorbed with Hansa, Taiga approached me to get attention.

ワンコはブサイほど可愛い。タイガはいろんな顔で毎日私を笑わせてくれます。でも、もう少し痩せなければ。おととい狂犬病のチックンに連れて行きましたが、体重は24.9kgでした。

Taiga may not be the best looking pooch in the world, but any of her expressions are endearing to me.  However, she must slim down - I took her to the vet 2 days ago for a rabies shot and was told that she weighed 24.9kg.
