洋ナシのタルト Pear Tart

 白ワインで煮た洋ナシを使ってタルトを作りました。カスタードには粉類を入れない代わりに、手製の濃厚サワークリームを使って滑らかな食感になりました。

I made a pear tart, with pear halves cooked in white wine.  No flour or corn starch was used in the custard.  Instead, I used home-made sour cream to give it a smoother taste.

公園で At the park

 今日も穏やかな秋晴れ。とても心地よい朝ですが、平日なので人出がまばらです。マロニエの枝が青空を背景にキラキラ輝いています。

Another mild autumn morning with hardly any breeze and warm sun.  

近くの林ですれ違ったトイプードルの２歳の男の子。タイガと挨拶している途中から急に吠え始めました。

We walked through the woods to stay cool and met a new face: 2-year old male Toy Poodle.  He started greeting Taiga with his tail wagging but, after a few seconds,

怖がりな性格のワンコによくある行動で、挨拶の相手が人でもこうなりがちです。

he started barking furiously.  This happens quite often with a timid dog.

飼い主さんに怒られています。

His mom tells him off.

何と説教されても本人は「ここに居たくない」という顔でタイガを見ています。

Whatever his mom tells him, he has no ears.

その後、ボーダーのペッパー君に遭遇。毎朝、飼い主さんがボールを投げて運動をさせています。ボールなど投げるおもちゃに対する集中力と執着心は異常なほど。

We then met Pepper, a male Border Collie.  He is obsessed with toys that his mom throws for him but has little interest in other dogs.

タイガは飼い主さんに挨拶しますが、ペッパー君は興味なさそう。

Taiga greets his mom but Pepper remains nonchalant.

その後は涼しい林の中を歩きました。私にとっては黄葉が楽しめる林でもタイガには退屈らしく、

As we walked thorough the woods, I was absorbed with the beautiful canopy in autumn colours.  However, Taiga was getting bored and

私が頭上の枝を眺めているうちに、リードを加えて振り回し始めました。

started shaking her leash.

幸い、８歳半ともなると勝手にどこかへ行ってしまうことはないので、私は頭上の黄葉を満喫。

At her age (8 1/2 years), she does not go somewhere else on her own, so I continued admiring the trees.

陸上競技場の横はイチョウ並木があります。

向こうから、初めて見る小さなちいさなトイプードルがやって来ました。2歳半の女の子で名前はティアちゃん。体重は２ｋｇちょっとだそうです。

We then met a tiny Toy Poodle.  Her name is Tia, aged 2 1/2 years, and weighs just above 2kg.

毛がフワフワで実際より大きく見えますが、非常に小顔だし体や脚は細いです。

She has a tiny face and slim body and legs, although she looks larger than actually due to her fluffy coat.

タイガを避け気味ですが、決して吠えたりしません。

立ち去ろうとしたら、スキをみてティアちゃんがタイガの臭い嗅ぎ。

さらに道を進んで、

プール横の窪地で一休み。

We had a rest, and Taiga waiting for her well-earned treat.

私が腰かける＝ベンチ＝オヤツ、とタイガは理解しているようです。

一回りして、さっきの草地に戻りました。

We came back to the field at the start of the walk, where the persimmon tree was being visited by Japanese White-eyes.

柿の木にはメジロが数羽いました。

バードウォッチャーたちが期待しているのはアオゲラの登場だそうです。

What the bird watchers are hoping to see is the Picus awokera (Japanese Green Woodpecker) .

カメラが出番を待っています。

黒生姜苗の追加 Additional Black Ginger Plants

おととい、地元園芸店に立ち寄ったら黒生姜のトレイがまだほぼ満杯でした。先日私が1個だけ買った部分は空で、その他は変わりなし。ちょっと可哀そうになって追加で２個買って帰りました。それを何で今頃ブログに載せているのかというと、海月さんブログで書き込みしたら、「黒生姜ってウコンのことでしょう？」という内容の反応に「ええっ？！」。私はてっきり生姜の黒い変わり種だと思っていました。調べたら、確かに「ショウガ科バンウコン属」だそうです。すっかりテンション下がってしまいました。

これ↓は、追加苗を買って意気揚々と帰宅したときのタイガのようす。もう蚊がほとんどいなくなったので、私が買い物で外出中は外に出たがるので好きなようにさせています。いつもこうやって置物状態でいると人から聞きました。

私の姿を見つけて重い腰を上げました。

She picked herself up when she saw me.

この面構えだと、タイガの性格を知らない人は警戒するかも。

With this face, people who do not know her may take her to be a fierce guard dog.

で、これ↓がその追加苗。

New additions to the black ginger plant I bought the other day.

右側の２鉢は先日の苗を植え替えたもの。

The plants on the right are from the original purchase, replanted in plastic pots.

追加苗もやっと植え替えました。黒生姜には優れた効能があるそうなので頑張って育ててみます。味も知らないうちから、テンション下がったなどと言ってはいけないですね。

The new ones have also been replanted, ready to go through the coming winter.  I will plant them in the ground in spring next year.

食用菊はピンクの「もってのほか」が終わって今は「松風」だけになりました。今年は食用に利用せず鑑賞用のみで楽しみました。

The pink chrysanthemums have finished and the yellow ones are almost past the peak.

もう11月16日なので、残っているキウイのレインボーレッドを全部とりました。今年は結実２年目で実のサイズは立派ですが、なかには芯の硬いものがあるので来年に期待です。でも、まともな実は追熟させると本当に甘くて美味しい。

I have picked all of the remaining Kiwi.  This is a red variety and super sweet when they finish ripening off the tree.

公園で At the park

 今日も東京は雲ひとつない青空でした。公園の川沿いに咲いていたサザンカ。私が住んでいる地区では、公園や民家の垣根に最も良く見られる種類です。

Another beautiful day without a speck of cloud in the blue sky.  Camellia sasanqua are starting to flower.

こちらは白に淡いピンクの縁取りで、また違った綺麗さがあります。

公園入口の広場では、柿の実が色づいています（写真中央の木）。

We arrived at the field at the entrance of Johoku Park with the persimmon tree (in the middle).

まだ過熟の段階ではないので突きにくいのか、訪れる野鳥の数は少ないです。甘柿だそうですが、ゴルフボールほどのサイズなのでよほど古い品種なのでしょう。

Persimmon fruits are visited by wild birds which in turn attract amateur birdwatchers with expensive camera equipment.

柿の木の向こうに見える大木（マロニエ？）は、幹が白で紅葉が始まるとかなり目立つ存在。

陽ざしが強いので涼しい林に入りました。

As the sun was strong, we walked through the woods.

山歩きというものをしたことが無いタイガですが、落ち葉の季節は臭いを嗅ぎまわっています。

向こうに紅葉が始まったイチョウの木が輝いています。

There was a bright spot among the canopy - a ginkgo tree in autumn colour.

手前の葉がほぼなくなったケヤキの木が遮っているので

As there was an obstacle tree between the ginkgo and me, 

同じ木を向こう側から眺めると、直射日光の当たらない部分はまだ緑色の枝でした。

I walked to the other side of the tree and found that only the top part that gets the direct sunlight is golden.

階段を上って上のほうへ移動。

We went up the stairs to a small opening among trees.

犬友たちが「窪地」と呼ぶ中間地点の広場を通って、古代家のあるところへ上ります。

古代家の林。ここは黄葉が始まったばかりのようです。

Then on to the wooded area where a reconstructed ancient dwelling was.

トウカエデの木が美しい。

様々な色の木々を眺めながら乾燥した空気の中を歩くのはとても気持ちよかったです。さっきの草地に戻ると、ちょうどベンチ（オヤツ）タイムでした。

After fully enjoying the trees and dry, crisp air, we came back to the earlier field.
