夕方散歩 Evening Walk

夕方散歩で城北公園へ行く前に、公園手前のコンビニでネットショッピングの決済をすることにしました。そのコンビニの名前を言うと、タイガはゴキゲンになります。外で私を待つご褒美に、あとでオヤツをもらえるからです。足取り軽くコンビニへ。

We headed for the Johoku Park.  Just before the Park, there is a convenience store where I wanted to pay for the web shopping that I had just done.  When I mention the name of the convenience store, Taiga always gives me a happy smile - she knows that she can get a treat for waiting for me outside.  So, she walked with a spring in her step.

After I came out, her eyes were fixed on the treat.

In the Johoku Park, when I was struggling to get better shots of Taiga, 

うしろから初めて見るコッカスパニエルの子が近づいてきました。

a new face approached her from behind.

レオン君、７歳の男の子だそうです。飼い主さんによると、この子もカメラシャッターの瞬間を巧みに回避するそうです。

A 7-years old male Cocker Spaniel, named Leon.  According to his dad, Leon also becomes uncooperative when he sees the camera.

もう少しで視線をとらえることができたのに。。。

そのあと林を歩いていたら、黒柴のソラ君がやって来ました。

Afterwards, when we were walking in the woods, Sora, a male Black Shiba Inu, joined us.

ソラ君は、私ではなく始終私の手提げを凝視。目ヂカラでおやつを出させようとします。

Sora is always happy to see us, but he never looks me in the eye because he is only interested in what's in my bag.

でも、タイガがソラママに甘えるのが気に入らないので、ギャン吠えで怒ります。

However, he cannot stand Taiga snuggling up to his mom, and he barks in Taiga's face like a mad dog.

次の瞬間、また私の手提げに精神集中。

Next moment, he is back gazing at my bag.

そして、ママに近づくタイガをけん制。

At the same time, he warns Taiga not to get too comfortable with his mom.

ドッグランの様子を見ていたら、初対面の柴犬がやって来ました。ニカ君、８か月の子犬。体が非常に小さいので、ミニ柴の部類に入りそう。

When we were looking into the dog park, a new face approached us.  He is a tiny White Shiba Inu, named Nica, aged 8 months.

８か月とは到底思えないくらい落ち着いた子で、初めて会うタイガがにじり寄ろうとしても動じません。

His demeanour was so calm ang graceful that I could hardly believe that he was a puppy of less than a year.  When Taiga tried to get close to him, he remained totally undisturbed.

「日本昔話」に出てきそうな、妖精のように美しいワンコ。

With his snow-white fur and a beautiful face, he looks like a fairy.

飼い主さんによると、ペットショップで売れ残っていた子だそうです。こんなに美しくて性格も花丸な子が。よほど縁があったのでしょう。

Yet, his dad tells me that Nica was a leftover in the pet shop.  What, a beautiful creature like this with a gentle personality?  They were probably destined to meet each other.

そこへ、公園のすぐ近所に住むカンタがやって来ました。カンタはタイガより４歳くらい下で、今８歳だと思いますが、タイガと顔を合わせると偉そうにまず唸るクセがついてきました。すると、すかさず私がカンタを叱る、というパターンが定着しています。

There arrives Kanta who lives near the Johoku Park.  Kanta is around 8 years old now, and about 4 years younger than Taiga.  As he aged, he has acquired the habit of growling at Taiga the moment they come face to face, at which moment I tell him off.  This is a pattern we have established.

雰囲気が偏屈オヤジっぽくなったカンタ。

He has become a cranky old man.

ナバホの開花 Navaho in bloom

 ブラックベリーのナバホの開花が始まりました。ナバホは直立性が強く管理しやすい品種。じゃばらと園芸用支柱で支えることで、前の道からの目隠しに役立っています。

Blackberry 'Navaho' has started to bloom.  This variety has some upright habit, and it is easy to handle.  I use the fence and gardening props to spread the plant in the shape of a fan, and it works as an effective shield between the road and my garden.

花は遠くから見ると、まるで野ばらが咲いているよう。

From a distance, the blossoms look like wild roses.

ナバホの両脇にはバラのハンザが植わっています。
Hansa rose is planted on either side of Navaho.

こちらは３本目のハンザで鉢植え。門の外は陽当たりも風通しも良いので、地植えの２本よりも花着きが良いです。

This is the 3rd Hansa that I bought.  Being exposed to the road, the plant gets more sunlight and breeze than the other two growing by the side of Navaho.

私がハンザに見入っていたら、またしてもストーカーが門の向こうからこちらをうかがっていました。夕方散歩の催促のようです。

As I was gazing at the Hanza flowers, the usual stalker was looking at me through the gate.  She wants to go out for an evening walk.

夕方の公園では冷たい風が吹いていて、昼間の暑さから一息つけました。タイガは冷たい草の上で満足そうな顔。去年の今頃、胸にできていた大きな脂肪腫を取り除く手術を受けました。それまでは、どんよりした生活態度でいかにも老犬といった雰囲気でした。それが、邪魔なものが無くなったとたん快活になって、目ヂカラが戻り若返った印象です。

In the park, there was a cool evening breeze, which was a nice break from the heat of the day.  Taiga looking happy on the cool grass.  This time last year, Taiga underwent an operation to remove the large lipoma on her chest.  Before the operation, she looked as if she had given in to old age and dull life.  After recovering from the operation, she turned her life around and became much more active, with her gaze becoming alert.

涼しい草地で満足とリラックスのあまり、スリゴロのクセが出るようです。

Taiga was relaxed and thoroughly enjoying the cool grass, and her habit came out.

ガバっと起きてあたりを見回す。

Suddenly, she got up sensing the approach of familiar faces.

マル君はお父さんに溺愛されて育った子ですが、全然ワガママなところや柴にありがちな神経質さが無く、人・犬の誰とでも仲良くできます。

Maru was brought up by his dad who loves him more than his own life, but he is not a spoiled dog, nor is he skittish like many Shiba Inus are.  Instead, he gets on well with anyone, humans or dogs.

タイガは年をとってからは、オコチャマにはあまり興味を示さなくなってしまいました。

Unfortunately, Taiga is losing interest in playing with someone too young.

そのあとは、ノムラモミジのある広場を通って帰りました。この１本だけあるモミジの赤葉が、周囲の緑に映えていました。

After parting with our friends, we crossed the field where a Nomura maple tree was.  This tree being the only one with red leaves, it stands out against the green background.

林のなかで振り返ると、もう日が低くなっていました。

The sunlight was getting low already and we hurried home.

朝散歩 Morning Walk

 今朝のタイガは、まずエゴの木が沢山植わっている広場へ向かいました。ここは茂呂山公園のすぐ手前なので、いつも道すがらに寄るところです。広場の入口で、唸り声に迎えられました。黒っぽい野良猫がタイガを睨みつけています。

For this morning's walk, Taiga chose the direction of the Moroyama Park.  Just before Moroyama, there is a field we always drop by.   As we entered, we were met by a growling sound - a black and white cat was glaring at Taiga.

すると近くの植え込みから似たような配色の猫が出てきました。

On cue, another cat with similar colouring issued forth from the bush nearby.

外見から、きょうだい猫のようです。

Looking at their appearance, they are probably siblings.

左の猫は伸びをして挨拶。

The cat on the left stretches himself and greets the other.

ふたりしてこちらを見張っています。

The two of them staring at us.

その後、右側から寄って来た猫がゆっくり動き出したので、警戒態勢は解けたようです。

Soon, the cat out of the bush started moving away slowly, which indicated that they were no longer vigilant.

エゴの花が満開。

すぐ近くの茂呂山公園へ上がりました。

We moved to the Moroyama Park and went up the stairs.

通路左の垣根から、私の好きな花の香りが漂ってきました。

A beautiful scent wafting from the left side of the path.

山野草のスイカズラが満開です。本来はツツジの垣根のはずですが、スイカズラのツルにびっしり覆われています。

It is the wild honeysuckle in full bloom.  The azalea hedge is covered by the vines of honeysuckle.  They may be invasive, but I love the scent.

階段を上ったところの広場では、赤と緑のモミジの若葉がきれいでした。

In the square at the top of the hill, the new leaves of red and green Japanese maple trees were pretty.

Looking at the ground closely where red maples were growing, 

種が発芽していました。まだ双葉がついたホヤホヤの新芽ですが、うっすら赤味がさしています。

I found tiny seedlings of red maples.  They still have seed leaves, but already the red colour is starting to appear.

こちらはもう少し成長して、双葉は無くなり本葉は硬くしっかりしています。赤いのと緑色のがくっついて発芽しています。

These two seedlings are more advanced, and the trunk leaves are firm having discarded the seed leaves.  The red leaves are already of the same colour as its parent's.

タイガが、公園下の道を挟んで向こうにある柿の木広場の方角をジッと見つめていました。

Taiga's attention was suddenly fixed in the direction of the Persimmon Park which is across the road below the Moroyama Park.

柿の木広場に入ってみると、すぐ近くに住むサスケが散歩に来ていました。タイガは嬉しくてダッシュで挨拶に行きます。サスケの初期反応は嬉しい表情ですが、犬同士の遊び方を知らないので続きがありません。

So, we went down to the Persimmon Park and saw Sasuke, the large Shiba Inu mix who lives very close by.  Taiga was excited and dashed towards him.  Sasuke's initial reaction was a happy one but, he does not know how to deal with other dogs, so nothing happened after that.

困ったような表情のサスケ。飼い主さんによると、大きさから怖がられるのでタイガが唯一の友達だそうです。

An awkward face.  According to his dad, Taiga is the only friend he has, since other dogs stay away due to his size.

ワンコ同士のあっけない挨拶のあとは飼い主さんに挨拶。

After the brief greeting between them, Taiga said hello to his dad.

スモモの幼果 Young plum fruits

今日は一日中雨。ワンコ散歩の必要さえなければ、一歩も外に出ないでリビングでぬくぬくしていたい日でした。

今年のスモモは超不作。失うものが無いので、地植えのスモモにアブラムシが着き始めたとたんに鬼剪定して枝ぶりはスカスカになりました。最近は雨が頻繁に降って乾燥状態を緩和してくれるのもあり、アブラムシ被害が今のところ解消されています。

これ↓は鉢植えのハニーハート。早生品種なので幼果が肥大するのも早いです。酸味が少なく種は離核で食べやすい。数個しか生っていないので、今年こそ防鳥ネットでがっちりヒヨから保護する予定。

It rained all day today.  If it was not for the sake of dog walk, I would have been quite content to spend the whole day in the living room watching TV.  

It is an unproductive year for my plum trees.  Since I had nothing to lose, I drastically pruned the branches once I spotted aphids in one of the trees.  Thanks in part to the frequent rain, the problem of aphids has been removed for now.  

This↓ is a variety called 'Honey Heart' growing in a pot.  It is an early ripening cultivar, with the fruits maturing at the end of June.  The fruit has very little acidity, and the stone comes off easily. 

 先日買ったリーガーベゴニアは、古くなった花柄を摘んで世話しているうちに更に愛着がわいてきました。リーガーは普通、八重咲きのハデなタイプに見慣れていますが、この比較的ジミな花は却って希少価値があるように思えます。苗は鉢増しして以来、伸び伸び成長し始めて、買ったときの姿とは全く別物になりました。

I have been picking the withering flowers off the plant of the Rieger Begonia that I bought recently.  As I take care of the plant, I have become rather fond of it.  Normally, Rieger Begonias have double petaled flowers looking really gorgeous, but I feel this single petaled plant has its own unique attraction.  After I repotted it in a large pot, the plant seems to have grown a lot.
