It is not getting as warm as it has been forecast. However, my head is all about growing the herbs that are said to be good for one's health.
This is a cutting of a lamb's quarter I made about 2 weeks ago, thinking I had nothing to lose. Lamb's quarter is one of the many beneficial wild plants about which I have been learning on Youtube during this winter. It is supposed to be an annual plant, not a perennial. However, there was a lamb's quarter in a sunny spot shielded from direct winds, in an empty plot on my way to the park. It was more than 1 meter tall. Up until the recent snow fall, the plant was surviving the winter quite well, and I took a small twig from it and came home. After the snow of last weekend, the plant has gone completely black and shrivelled.
When I first prepared the cutting, there was a tiny bud in the axil closest to the soil surface. To my delight, it seems to be growing. Even if this does not work out, I am optimistic that I will find many fresh lamb's quarters when it gets warmer, since this is a common weed that can be found anywhere.
In spring last year, I saw a tiny Christmas rose plant in a shop nearby. According to the shop assistant, it would take about 3 years for the plant to flower. However, I recently noticed a flower bud growing. What a big surprise, considering that the plant had only two leaves through summer-autumn last year, showing no growth since I bought it.
The label does not say that it is a clone of a named variety, so it is most likely a seedling. Therefore, the picture on the label is just for reference, but I would be very happy if the flower looks anything like it.
