比較的遠いのであまり頻繁に行かないスーパーでの買い物帰りに、すぐそばの園芸店を覗いてみたら見慣れないものがありました。「原種デイジー」だそうです。
デイジーといえば、イギリスではタンポポと並んでガーデナーに最も嫌われている雑草。ウィンブルドンのテニスコートのような美しい芝生を維持するのが誇りの人にとって、これら二大雑草は許せない存在です。私は両方とも好きなので無問題ですが、好きだからといって放置すると近所の顰蹙を買います。
After doing shopping at a supermarket that was located at a distance, I dropped into a plant shop on my way home, where I saw this. The label says 'wild daisy' but, unlike the white daisies I used to see in England, this one has pink flowers.
Now, wild daisies are shunned by lawn gardeners in England, along with dandelions. They are two biggest enemies for proud gardeners maintaining immaculate lawn like that of the Wimbledon tennis courts. I myself love both of these plants, but, if I lived in England, I would not have the nerve to leave them alone in front of my neighbours.
「アルム」は英語では「施し」のような意味なので、違和感をもって検索したら、どうやらドイツ語の方言で「山岳部の草原地帯」を意味するようです。アルプスなど、夏の期間の放牧地のイメージ。
The commercial name in Japanese meaning 'Sky of Alm' sounds nice, suggesting the sky over Alpine meadows in Europe.
買った理由は、多年草というならグラウンドカバーになるかも？開花期が長そう（たぶん目安？）。イギリスのデイジーは花びらが真っ白だった記憶ですが、この苗のは薄っすらピンクで可愛いです。
注意点は過湿が苦手だそうで、より現実的には日本の夏の高温多湿が苦手なのでは？ ということで、まずは1株だけ買って、鉢植えで夏は日陰に移動。これではグラウンドカバーにはならないですが。
This plant seems much more compact than cultivated varieties, so it might be useful as a ground cover. Also, the flowering season indicated on the label seems unusually long, although it may be just an indication.
One thing I should note is that it does not do well with too much humidity. More realistically, it may not be tough enough to survive the hot and humid summer in Tokyo. So, I am going to experiment with just one pot.
花をよく見ると、私が大切にしているピンクのノコンギク「桃山」を小さくしたような感じです。練馬の猛暑を生き延びたら、こぼれ種で増やしたいです。
The flowers look a little like a small version of my favourite wild aster with pink petals. If it does survive the summer, I would love to grow more from the seeds.
