朝散歩 Morning Walk

 公園に向かう道の途中で、お地蔵さんの前を通りました。今朝は秋らしく小菊の花とカリンの実が供えられていました。

On our way to the Johoku Park, we passed by the jizo-san statues.  This morning's offerings were very autumnal - small chrysanthemum flowers and quince fruits.

公園に着いて築山の上でオヤツタイム。

Arriving at the first field, we went up the mound for Taiga's treat.

私たちがベンチにつくと必ず姿を現すカラス。タイガがオヤツをもらう様子をジッと見ています。

As soon as we sat down at one of the benches, this crow flew down to the nearest bench as usual.  Its gaze was fixed on Taiga's treat.

ハシボソカラスなので遠慮気味です。

This crow is Corvus corone with small beaks, and quite timid unlike the ones with huge beaks (Corvus macrorhynchos).

橋を渡って城北中央公園の林を歩いていると、かなり前に一度会った子がやってきました。名前はエール君、保護された子で紀州犬とのミックスだそうです。そう聞くと、今も狩猟犬として使われている有色紀州に見えてきます。

We crossed the river and entered the woodlands of Johoku Central Park, when we met a pooch we had seen once before.  He was a rescued dog and is said to be a Kishu Ken mix.  Indeed, he looks like a Kishu with colour.  Snow white Kishus are for the pet market, whereas hunters still use Kishus with colours since what matters for them is whether the dog can hunt or not.

タイガは自分と同じ体格の男の子を見ると遊び相手だと思って喜びます。

When Taiga sees a male dog of her own size, she gets excited.

特に年下の男の子が好きなので、見ていて恥ずかしいです。

If the male dog is younger than herself, all the better - it is embarrassing for me to watch.

We resumed our walk through the woods,

久しぶりにバムちゃんに会えました。バムちゃんも保護犬。大変なビビリですが、タイガには慣れました。

and met Bam, whom we had not seen in months.  Bam is also a rescued individual.  She is extremely timid but has no fear of Taiga.

バムちゃん、タイガに付き合ってくれて有難う。

カンタもやってきました。

There arrives Kanta.

カンタは８歳。すっかり偏屈オヤジになって、タイガと顔を合わせると唸ります。

Kanta turned 8 in July this year.  He behaves like a choleric old man and growls every time Taiga approaches him.

タイガは動じませんが、私にいつも叱られます。

Taiga looks unaffected, but I always scold him.

お姉ちゃんにも頭の後ろを掴まれて叱られています。

Kanta's owner grabs the back of his neck and tells him off.

叱られても、へーちゃら。

None of that has any effect on him.

ちゃんと叱ったあとは、オヤツで気分転換です。

After scolding, Kanta's owner took out a treat for a mind reset.

公園からの帰りはカンタの家経由で見送りです。

We saw Kanta off by walking via his home.

夕方散歩など Evening Walk etc

 パンはいつも自家製のを食べているのですが、今日は晴天で色々たまっていたことをやっているうちに、パン生地の準備が遅れてしまいました。何とか夕方散歩に出るまでには最終発酵を終えて、生地の成形をしました。あとは散歩中に30℃で１時間 発酵させれば焼成です。今日は焼き型のフタをして角パンにします。

I always bake my own bread.  Today, I started preparing the dough late, since I had a lot of other things to do after the rainy day yesterday.  I managed to get the proofing and shaping of the dough done before the evening walk.  It was going to be a square 'shokupan'.  The dough would ferment at 30 ℃ in the oven while we have an hour's walk.

タイガが散歩を楽しめるように、なるべく明るいうちに夕方散歩に出ます。

玄関前のヒガンバナは終わってしまいましたが、洋モノのリコリスが上がってきました。いつもヒガンバナの後のタイミングです。

I try to leave the house while there is still daylight, so that Taiga can enjoy the walk.  

The red spider lilies near the front door are wilting.  Instead, the Lycoris aurea flowers are coming up.  They always bloom after the red spider lilies.

坂を下りていったところの空き地からの夕空。最近、夕空の雲がドラマチックに見えます。手前の空き地は草丈が私の身長を超えるくらいだったのを、今朝、重機のような車両で掃除をするかのように刈っていました。「あの重機、購入費が高そう。でもやってる作業自体は付加価値が低いし、代替手段で同じ結果を得られる。となると耐用年数内でちゃんと投下資本の回収できるのかしらん。メンテにも費用かかりそうだし。」などと、おせっかいな心配をしてしまいました。

They cut the grass this morning in this field, that had grown taller than my height.  To cut the grass, a man was driving a vehicle I had never seen.  It was a sort of heavy equipment and cut the grass like a giant vacuum cleaner.  I cannot imagine there being much demand for the vehicle, since it can only be effective in a flat terrain with a lot of space.  So, I started thinking: "that vehicle must cost a lot, but the actual work done has little added value, and the result can be accomplished by alternative methods.  Is it possible to recover the invested capital within the service life?  The maintenance costs cannot be negligible, either."

今日は石神井川沿いに、城北公園とは逆の方角へ歩きました。

We walked along the Shakujii River in the opposite direction to the Johoku Park.

帰り道、金魚の水槽を道端に置いている家の前を通りました。ちょうど、家の人が玄関前の庭木を剪定したゴミを片付けているところだったので、写真の許可をもらいました。

On our way home, we passed by the house where they have fish tanks by the public road.  It so happened that a family member was outside, tidying up the waste from pruning the trees.  So, I introduced myself and asked for his permission to take photos.

これらの金魚は、元々は高齢で世話ができなくなった近所の人から受け継いだ金魚の子孫だそうです。初代の金魚たちはほんの２匹だったのが、その後卵が産まれて孵化したそうです。その孵化直後の稚魚たちはどれも真っ黒なメダカのようだったのが、成長するにつれて金魚らしくなってきたそうです。

これは左側の水槽で、白っぽい個体が多めに入っています。大小様々ですが、どれも16歳だそう。
According to the gentleman, they originally accepted two goldfish from an elderly person who could no longer take care of them, many years ago.  These fish in the tank are the offsprings of those original goldfish.  The two fish later produced eggs which hatched in due course.  The baby fish immediately after hatching were jet black.  As they grew, they started to transform themselves.

This is the tank on the left.  It contains individuals looking predominantly white.  They vary greatly in size, but they are all 16 years old.

ゆらゆらと泳いでいる様子は飽きずに眺められます。

They move like silk scarves in the breeze.  It is relaxing to watch them.

帰宅して、発酵完了を待って焼きあがり。でも、完全に冷めてからでないとスライスできないので、夕飯には間に合いませんでした。明日の朝食用です。

Coming home, I turned the oven on.  Since I cannot cut the bread until it cools down completely, it was not ready for tonight's supper.

ミカン日南の姫 Early ripening tangerine

 今日は一日中雨で久しぶりに肌寒い日でした。こんなに寒い日でもタイガは、リビングの床よりも冷たい玄関タイルの上のほうが好みのようです。雨のおかげで一日３回の水やり地獄からは解放されて、涼しい空気のなか植物の現状を再確認しました。

It rained all day today and, with the maximum temperature at 24℃, it was the coldest day since spring.  Even on such a chilly day, Taiga prefers to lie on the porch tiles instead of sleeping in the living room.  Being freed from having to water the plants 3 times a day, I checked the state of plants.

門の内側に置いてある鉢植えの極早生ミカン「日南の姫」が１個雨のなか落ちていました。他の実は硬いのに、落果したのは浮き皮でブヨブヨしています。熟したというよりは、木全体の完熟前の生理落果のようです。

One of the fruits of the tangerine called 'Hinano HIme' had fallen off.  Although this is an extra early ripening variety, this fallen fruit does not feel right.  This one's outer skin is puffy whereas others on the tree are firm.  So, rather than this one being ripe, it was a result of shedding before the whole tree started ripening.

もう10月なので、これから色づくのがまともな実のはずです。

Since it is already October, the remaining fruits will be ripening properly.
