公園で（朝）At the park (morning)

 家を出てすぐ、初めて見る子に出くわしました。

Shortly after leaving home, we met a new face: a black Shiba Inu, named Setoka, 6 months old.

黒柴のセトカちゃん、生後6か月の女の子だそうです。高級ミカンのような名前なので、家に帰っても覚えていました。

She was a bit scared of Taiga's size, but friendly enough.  Since she lives in the same neighbourhood, I am sure we will be meeting again.

タイガのサイズに引いていましたが、とても明るい子です。ご近所のようなので、これからも会えるでしょう。

公園に着くと、林の中で会った白柴のマロ君、５歳だそうです。

When we arrived at the park, we saw another new face: a white Shiba Inu, named Maro, 5 years old.

社交化されていないので、写真では人形のように可愛いのですが実際は近づくとガウガウでした。

He has not been socialised and, although he looks sweet in the photo, he kept growling if we ever tried to approach him.

上のほうの林では、先日見たときはまだ緑色だった和製ニワトコの実が、今では真っ赤に色づいていました。

Japanese elder tree as it is now.  The last time I saw this tree, the berries were still green.  Now, they are bright red.

調べたら、和製ニワトコの実は赤くなった状態が完熟だそうです。また、西洋ニワトコ同様、合わない体質の人（私）が摂取すると下痢・嘔吐の中毒症状が出るそうです。私の場合、十分加熱して作った花びらのシロップを数倍に薄めて飲んでさえあれほど苦しんだので、こんな赤い実を食べるとどうなることやら。

The berries are fully ripe when they are red, unlike the European/American elders whose berries turn dark as they ripen.

野鳥が既に食べてしまった房もあります。

Some of the clusters have been picked by birds already.

緑色の葉っぱを背景に、真っ赤な実は観賞価値があります。ちょっと妖しい雰囲気も。

They look quite attractive against the green background.

私がニワトコに見入っている間、繋がれたタイガは退屈だったようです。何やら枝をおもちゃにしています。

While I was observing the elder tree, Taiga was getting bored.

She has got hold of a branch.

今日はまた格別太って見えます。

She looks overweight more than ever.

それでも、ここはオヤツスポットなので定位置でオヤツを出したところへ友達がやって来ました。

However, this is the usual spot for Taiga's treat, and as I was getting it out of my bag, we saw a friend approaching.

タイガは焦って塀の上に前足を乗せてきましたが、小雪ちゃんの飼い主さんもオヤツを出したので、そっちが気になるよう。

今度は小雪ちゃんが身を乗り出してアピール。

別にタイガを優先したわけではなく、小雪ちゃんにあげたあとタイガにもあげたところです。

I did give it to Koyuki first, but she looks at Taiga as if to say 'That should have been mine, too'.

ふたりともポッチャリ気味なので、ほどほどに。。。

その後は木陰で涼しんでから帰りました。

After parting with Koyuki, we rested in the shade before heading home.

キウイ Kiwi young fruits

毎日の雨はうっとおしいですが、水やり地獄からは解放されるし、何より植物が育ちます。キウイのレインボーレッドの幼果が、数日前に見たときよりもグンと肥大していました。私の人差し指との比較ではこの状態です。

Red-fleshed Kiwi: 'Rainbow Red'.  This is an extremely sweet variety.  The young fruits are growing fast thanks to the rains.

スバル君 At the park

 四中横の草地でスバル君に会えました。久しぶりなのでお互い大興奮で挨拶。

When we arrived at the park, we met Subaru after a long time, so they were both very excited.

As they ran about, Subaru's mom and I had to run to accommodate their moves.  (Since there were small children in the same field, we had to hold on to the leash.)

リードを放せないので、ワンコたちが走り回るのに合わせて飼い主たちが振り回されて転びそうになりました。

タイガは公園に着いたばかりなのでまだまだ遊びたそうでしたが、スバル君は散歩後の帰宅途中だったのでヘロヘロでした。

Taiga, having just arrived at the park, wanted to go on playing but Subaru had finished his walk and was on his way home when we met.  It soon started to rain again, so we had to go home anyway.

公園で At the park

 今日も雨の合間を縫って午前中に散歩に出かけました。四中横の草地に着くと、柴犬のキリュウ（輝龍）が飛んできました。

When we arrived at the park, Kiryu, 1-year old male Shiba Inu came running towards us.

タイガにかまってほしくて仕方ないようです。

Despite the age difference, Kiryu really likes Taiga.

タイガは......どうでも良いという反応。

But Taiga is not interested in kiddies.

こんなに好きなのにね。

ガマンしたご褒美にオヤツ。

A treat for having been patient with Kiryu.

そんなに美味しいんかい。

She gets the same treat every day but never seems to get tired of it.

その後は柿の木広場へ移動しました。土がむき出しのところでは保護色になります。

On our way home, we stopped at the Persimmon Park.  Taiga disappears into the background where the ground is bare.  Can you see her?

貸し切り状態なので、走りたいだけ走らせました。

Since there was no-one else in the park, I let Taiga run freely.

She went berserk.

タイガが穴掘りを始めました。この土が湿った状態でホリホリすると、足の指の間に土がたっぷりめり込みます。それにしてもオシリ丸出し。

She found a hole in the ground made by other dogs and started digging.

私が止めに来るのを察知して、その前に掘れるだけほってやれ、というつもりです。

Imagine the wet soil getting between her toes - she knew that I would be there in an instant to stop her, so she digs even more frantically.

叱られたのでプイと移動しましたが、その先には管理の人たちが斜面を掘り起こしたところがあります。

Having been told off, she moved on to the next target - a patch of bare ground on the slope.

さっきよりも広い面積なので嬉しそうなタイガ。

Now she has even bigger place than before.

おもいっきり叱ってやったら、すっとんで行きました。

I caught up with her and she moved on.

散々動き回ったあとは、またオヤツの催促。さっさとベンチのところへ行って待っています。

Having had enough exercise, Taiga then went to the bench so that I would take the cue for a treat.

もうすぐ狂犬病の予防接種で動物病院へ行きます。病院では必ず体重を計られるので、いつもは見栄をはってダイエットをしてから行きますが、今年はこのままかも。

公園で At the park

 公園の手前で久しぶりにミニ柴のクマジロウ君に会いました。タイガより２歳近く年上で、もうすぐ10歳になります。

We met Kumajirou, a miniature Shiba Inu, just before reaching the park.  He is 2 years older than Taiga and will be 10 years old soon.  

以前はタイガを見かけると、４本脚同時に宙に浮かせて、バネ仕掛けの人形のように飛び跳ねながら近づいて来たものですが、今は年齢と体力の低下から自己防衛本能が機能しているのか、一定の距離を保ったままでした。

When he was younger, every time he saw Taiga, he used to come hopping in the air like a spring driven toy.  Now he seems to be driven by a self-preservation instinct, being aware of his declining physical strength.

その横の草地にある、例の桜の木。

段々と色づいてきて綺麗なのですが、

何か前回見たときよりも実の密度が下がっているような、と思っていたら、

They look prettier than ever, but they seem to be thinning out?

色づいたものから順次、野鳥が食べているようです。

Wild birds have started to pick them as they become ripe.

そこで、私も１個味見。雨粒つきです。

So I tried one, together with a rain drop.

小さくても美味しい。独特の苦みが僅かにありますが、それが野良っぽくて好みです。

It tastes delicious with a touch of wild flavour.

中央公園へ移動しようとしたら、タイガが動こうとしません。

運よく友達のチョコ君が通りかかったので、タイガはオヤツのことが頭から吹っ飛んでしまったようです。トイプードル、５歳の男の子です。

Fortunately, a friend passed by and Taiga forgot about the treat.  A 5-yar old, male Toy Poodle, named Choco.

タイガが自分の飼い主さんに甘えているのを見て、ちょっと焦っています。

帰宅して、家の北側の雑草を確認。しばらく草取りをさぼっていたら、この恵みの雨でビュンビュン育っています。

Back at home, weeds are growing fast due to rain.

ピンクの姫オウギは歓迎ですが。

乾燥した土で育っているので、草丈が10cmほどしかなくて可愛いです。

夕方の天気予報は大きな傘マークがついていたので、早い時間に散歩にでました。向こうから、タイガが公園デビューした頃から知り合いのコブ君がやってきました。タイガより１，２歳上です。元は保護された子で、今でもシャイです。

Since it was forecasted that there would be heavier rain in the evening, we set off before it got dark.  We met Cobu, a male mixed breed.  When Taiga was a puppy starting to walk in the park, he was already a grown-up.  However, as a rescued dog, he has always been timid and shy.

タイガが飼い主さんに挨拶している間、近づこうとしないで顔を背けています。

He even turned his face away while Taiga was snuggling up to his dad.

飼い主さんがコブ君をタイガの近くへ引き寄せようとしても抵抗。

When his dad tried to pull him closer to Taiga, he refused and wouldn't even look at Taiga.

何とも気持ちが読めない子です。
