散歩 Walks

 今日も朝から雲一つない青空で暑かったです。朝散歩で、まず近所の空き地でタイガの用足しをします。写真に写り込んでいる緑色の網は、平和台からここ氷川台・桜台を通り環七交差点まで続く道路の建設準備中で、まだ用地を確保している段階です。環七交差点からは池袋までの道が既に通っているので、全て完成した暁には平和台から池袋まで一直線で行けることになります。

Another hot day, with no cloud in the sky from early morning.  At the start of the walk, we often come to this empty lot for Taiga's business.  The green fences in the picture show the area earmarked for building a road that will connect towns from Heiwadai, our Sakuradai, and all the way straight to Ikebukuro.

その道路予定地の向こうには新しいマンションが完成間近。以前はタクシー会社の本社が広い駐車場として使っていた場所です。この辺もどんどん景色が変化しています。

Beyond the green fences, there is a block of flats nearing its completion.  A taxi operator used own the land and used it as its car park.  Sceneries around here have changed a lot since I moved into this area.

最近気づいたのですが、この場所から池袋のサンシャイン60ビルが見えます。私が住んでいるのは地下鉄有楽町線氷川台駅のすぐ近くですが、氷川台駅は池袋駅から４つめ。池袋の隣の要町駅からここへ越してきてまる29年間、この空き地ができるまではサンシャイン60が見えるとは気づかずにいました。

I noticed recently that from this empty lot, I can see the top of the Sunshine 60 Building in Ikebukuro.  I live near the Hikawadai Station on the underground Yurakucho Line which is the 4th station from Ikebukuro.  Since moving into this area 29 years ago, I only noticed it when this empty lot was created.

夕方散歩で、石神井川沿いを城北公園とは逆に、西日に向かって歩きました。

For our evening walk, Taiga chose the direction opposite to the Johoku Park, along the Shakujii River and towards the west.

向こうから初めて見る子がきましたが、遠目にはネコが散歩しているのかと思いました。

A strange looking pooch coming this way.  From a distance, he looked like a cat having a walk, and he was not walking straight.

そこへ、この辺で時々見かけるスピッツ系の大福君がやってきました。

There also came Daifuku, a Spitz mix whom we meet occasionally in this area.

左から、チワワ・マルチーズミックスの子（名前は聞き忘れ）で11歳、大福君２歳、タイガ12歳です。

The tiny individual is a Chihuahua-Maltese mix, aged 11 years old, Daifuku 2 years old, and Taiga 12 years old.

大福君は初対面の子に夢中。小さい子ながら、大福君にズンズン寄ってこられても全然怖がりません。

Daifuku cannot get enough of the new friend.  Although he is so small, he was not scared of Daifuku's keen approach.

本当に不思議な雰囲気の子です。

帰り道、うちの近くまで来たら近所の黒柴、せとかちゃんに会えました。タイガもせとかちゃんも、いつもより早い時間の散歩なので、会えたのが嬉しい。

When we came back to our district, we ran into Setoka, our neighbour's Black Shiba Inu.  Both Setoka and Taiga normally take an evening walk much later.  So, meeting unexpectedly, they were both excited.

せとかちゃんは、全身をブルブル振ってから近づいてきました。「カーミングシグナル」と呼ばれる犬の行動。意外な時間帯にタイガとばったり会ったので、気持ちを落ち着かせようとしているのでしょうか。

せとかちゃんもタイガも落ち着いたので、一緒に歩き始めました。

After they both calmed down, we started walking together.

散歩など Walk etc

 今日も朝から暑いのなんの。日中は36℃に達したそうです。とにかく涼しい散歩道を探して、今朝はまず公園手前の屋敷林へ行きました。ここは何年も前から屋敷林として一般に提供されていましたが、一部には古い農家の家と蔵があってプライベートになっていました。その所有者が数年前に亡くたったあとは、土地の一部はマンション用地として売却され、残りは従前の屋敷林に組み込まれました。写真のここ↓は、かつて農家の門があったところです。

Another very hot day, with the maximum temperature reaching 36℃.  For this morning's walk, we just wanted a shade and went to the privately owned woodland, that is open to the public.  The woodland was available ever since I moved into this district nearly 30 years ago, but the farmhouse and its storehouse were sectioned off and kept private while the old couple were living.  They passed away several years ago, and apart from a section of the land that was sold off, the rest was incorporated into the existing woodland.  Here in the photo, you can see the remnant of the approach to the farmhouse.

昔は蔵のまわりが孟宗竹の林でしたが、今はすっきりして風通しがよくなりました。

In old days, the storehouse was surrounded by a dense bamboo forest.  Now, the place looks light and airy - they have done a good job in reshaping the place.

ここは昔から一般に提供されていた林で、春には写真右に写り込んでいるシャガの群生が見事です。

This is part of the woodland that was always open to the public.  In spring, the Japanese iris on the right treats us with beautiful flowers.

屋敷林の向こう側の出口。この後、坂を上って柿の木広場と茂呂山公園へ向かいました。

We came out of the woodland on the other side and headed for the Persimmon Park and Moroyama Park.

練馬区の公園は動物の連れ込み禁止ですが、屋敷林は「公園」という位置づけでないのか制限なしです。

Nerima Ward does not allow us to bring dogs into parks.  However, woodlands like this seem to be treated differently, and there is no restriction.

お昼ご飯のあと、タイガのシャンプーをしました。梅雨の蒸し暑いなか、一緒にリビングにいると獣臭が漂い始めていたのです。今は換毛期でもあるので、シャンプー後のすすぎ作業は抜け毛で大変です。お風呂場の排水溝のフタが浮いて来るので、手を突っ込んで毛を取り除くのですが、これがサイテー。

タイガを洗ったあとは、自然乾燥の旅で公園へ向かいました。アスファルトの道は暑くて、巨大な乾燥機の中を歩いている気分です。四中横の草地に着くと大木の木陰へ直行。適度な風が吹いていたので、優しいブロードライヤーに当たっている気分でした。

After lunch, I shampooed Taiga.  In the rainy season, Taiga was starting to smell when we sat close in the living room.  It also happens to be the moulting season for her, and rinsing the shampoo off her body was really heavy work.  

After the shampoo, we went out to dry her fur naturally.  Walking on the metalled road was very, very hot - it felt like walking in a huge dryer.  When we arrived at the field, we went straight to the large tree with deep shade.  There was constant breeze, and sitting in the shade, it felt like being in front of a gentle blow dryer.

帰宅するまでにはほぼ乾いていましたが、ドライヤーで仕上げ。これでしばらくは獣臭とさようなら。

She was almost dry by the time we got home, but I finished her with a dryer.  After this, she will be free of "animal smell" for weeks.

暑さのせいか、矮性ラズベリーのルビービューティが急に色づいていました。昨日まではクリーム色だったのに。

The dwarf raspberry, Ruby Beauty, is suddenly ripening.  The berries were creamy coloured only yesterday.

色づいた３個のうち、これら２個はホワホワの柔らかさだったので収穫。美味しい❣

野生のクサイチゴよりも更に矮性なので支柱など要らず、本当に世話なし品種です。タイガがいたずらできないこの場所で栽培面積を増やしたいです。

Of the 3 red ones, these 2 were very soft, so I picked them.  Really delicious!

This variety is even shorter in growth habit than the wild raspberries that you can find anywhere in Japan.  Being so short, you do not have to bother with props.  So, I am hoping to grow more of these in this place, where Taiga cannot pull them out of the ground.

オニユリのムカゴの２鉢め。大きくなったものを毎日コツコツと埋め込んでいるうちに、根っこが真っ直ぐ下に伸びずに、ムカゴが横へ這うものが出てきます。

This is the second pot of baby bulbs of my Tiger Lilies.  As the baby bulbs become mature on the plant, I have been collecting them.  However, some of them are moving by extending the root.

早く土を乗せて埋めてやりたいけど、もう少しムカゴを集めてから。もう平鉢は残っていないので、最大限に詰め込みたいのです。

I should be covering them with a thick layer of soil, but I need to collect more, since I do not have another pot that I can use for the purpose.  I have so many of them from previous years, too.

散歩など Walk etc

 今日は朝から蒸し暑くて、公園では日陰伝いで歩いていました。公園の上のほうへ向かう途中の広場、家でいえば中二階のような場所です。

It was a muggy day from the start.  During our morning walk in the park, we walked from one shade to another.  This is a field between the lower ground and the upper part of the park, rather like the mezzanine in a house.

ここは一方が急斜面で、石神井川の向こうの工事現場を見渡せます。以前は（2017年９月末まで）は草地で、毎夕方ワンコたちを放し飼いで遊ばせていたところなので、当時を知っている飼い主たちには思い出一杯の場所です。今は、洪水の災害を防止するための地下貯水施設を建設中です。工事の第一期に当たる草地の右側がほぼ終わったところで、今は第二期に工事の中心が移ったようです。

One side of this field faces a steep slope underneath, overlooking the field across the Shakujii River.  The field is under construction.  Up until the end of September 2017, it was a grassy field, and we used to let the dogs loose every evening.  So, some of us have a lot of memories about this place.  They are now building an underground facility to take in flood water.  The First Phase, which is in the right half of the field, has been more or less completed, and they are now concentrating on the Second Phase.

草地の左半分の第二期はここ。これまでの年月に加えてさらに７-８年かけて全て終わるまで、草地全体が閉鎖されたままです。完成するまでにはタイガはもう居ないでしょう。

This is the left half of the field where the Second Phase is being carried out.  It has taken 8 years for the First Phase, and it will be another 7-8 years for the Second Phase.  By the time all is done, Taiga will be long gone.

なので、残されたタイガとの時間を大切にしようと思います。

So, I am cherishing every moment that I have with her.

あの頃のタイガは私のいうこときかなくて、群れで楽しく遊んでいる最中でもプイと草地から脱走していました。今はすっかりお互い空気のような存在です。

Up to about 4 years old, Taiga took little notice of my commands.  Even in the middle of playing with other pooches and having fun, she would suddenly run out of the field and disappear.  Now, we are like air to each other.

近所のマンションの実が生るクチナシが気になって、管理人さんに「枝を挿し木にしたい」と話したら、「もうすぐ業者の剪定が入るから、その前に採りなさい」と言われました。一枝もらってきて、先端を挿し穂として整えました。

The gardenia flowers I saw a few days ago stuck in my mind.  So, on our way home, I dropped into the management office of the flats and asked the manager if I could get a branch to make cuttings.  He readily agreed saying that they were about to have the hedges trimmed, and I should take a branch before that.  These are the cuttings that I prepared.

防腐剤 兼 発根促進剤として、台所の粉末シナモンを使いました。これは海外のYoutuberがよく使うもので、私にとって身近で便利です。外でこの作業をすると蚊に襲われるので台所で準備。

In order to prevent rotting, and also to encourage rooting, I used powder cinnamon - an idea taken from Youtubers overseas.  I prepared the cuttings in the kitchen, so as to avoid mosquitoes outside.

バーミキュライトに挿して準備完了。使った容器はミネラルウォーターが入っていたもので、底に穴をたくさん開けました。庭の果樹の木陰で管理します。

I used vermiculite and the bottom part of a mineral water bottle which I perforated.  I will watch its progress by keeping it in the shade of a plum tree in the garden.

タヒチライムなど Tahiti Lime etc

 ２階バルコニーに置いてあるタヒチライムに今年初めて花が咲きました。棒苗で買ってきて、今年が３年目です。花の数はそう多くはなかったけど、いくつか収穫まで行きそうです。

I have a pot of Tahiti lime on the upstairs balcony.  It flowered for the first time this year.  I got this as a grafted new plant without any branches and this is the 3rd year of growth.  Flowers were not abundant, but some of the young fruits seem certain to grow to maturity.

それらのうち最も大きいもの５個を観察しやすいように、実のすぐ近くに紐を括り付けてあります。ライムの幼果の色は葉っぱと同じなので、目印なしでは目的の５個がどこにあるのか見つけにくいからです。

Of the young fruits, I have marked the largest 5 with pieces of white string attached near them.  The colour of the young fruits is identical to that of leaves, and they disappear among the leaves without some marks to look for.

他にも小さな幼果はありますが、苗が幼いので今年は５個が最後まで育てば満足です。

There are a few other young fruits, but my goal is to grow 5 of them for this year, since the tree is still young.

花は少しずつ返り咲きがあります。

I keep getting some flowers, though.

夕方散歩で公園に着いたら、甲斐犬のカンタがいました。今日は雨が降ったり止んだりで、湿度がまとわりつくように高い日でした。じっと動かなくても汗をかくので人間にとっても気だるい天気ですが、ワンコにはもっとこたえるようです。

When we arrived at the park for our evening walk, we met Kanta, a brown brindle Kai.   The weather today was extremely humid with occasional rain, each lasting for a few hours.  For humans, it was humid enough to sweat without moving at all, so it must have been quite unbearable for dogs.

カンタは12歳のタイガよりも４歳下で今年８歳になりますが、どっしり構えた雰囲気は同い年以上に見えます。

Kanta is 4 years younger than Taiga who is 12 years old.  He looks and behaves like someone at least Taiga's age.

舌班が縦に入っています。タイガのは喉のあたりに小さな班があるだけで、普段は見えません。

He has a stain running the length of his tongue.  Taiga has a tiny stain at the back of her mouth, so it is not normally visible.

本当に気だるそうなカンタ。

Kanta really looks suffering from the humidity.

カンタに相手にしてもらえないので、タイガはまたスリゴロを始めました。

Taiga, not getting much reaction from Kanta, started rolling on the grass as usual.

カンタが他のベンチに移動したので、タイガがその後に上がりました。

Kanta moved to another bench, so Taiga got onto the one he had vacated.
