公園で At the Park

 ここ数日、毎日晴天・乾燥で冬の東京の気候らしくなってきました。城北公園の木々もどんどん色づいてきていて、毎日地元で紅葉が楽しめるのは有難いです。

We have had several days of blue sky and dry air, which we associate with winter in Tokyo.  The trees in the Johoku Park are turning colourful and it is nice to observe their progress every day.

石神井川を挟んで向こう岸は、洪水に備えて調整池の工事が進行中。第一期・二期の全工程が完了するのに十数年かかるので、もう心理的にはここの風景の一部になってしまっています。元の草地が復元されても、その頃にはタイガがいないと思うと重要でなくなりました。

On the other side of the Shakujii River, they have been working on underground reservoirs that are expected to adjust the water flow in times of floods.  For the whole construction work to be completed, it will take more than 15 years and, by the time it is finished and a green field is restored, Taiga will not be there to enjoy it.

川沿いの道を通ってから、公園上のほうへ上りました。

We walked along the river before going up to the higher ground.

初めて会う子。保護犬であまり社交化されていないそうで、タイガとの挨拶に強気で臨んできました。

A new face.  He is a rescued dog and has not been fully socialised.  So, he approached Taiga with a bit of an attitude.

それに反応して珍しくタイガの背中の毛が逆立っている。

暑くも寒くもなく本当に心地よい気候です。

The weather is neither too cold nor too warm.

この色の組み合わせ、ウクライナの国旗を連想させます。

This colour combination reminds me of the Ukrainian flag.

この子も初めて会う子で保護犬だそうですが、とても懐こい子。タイガのシッポが右側に倒れているので、保護犬の飼い主さんに撫でられて嬉しいようです。そのスキに臭い嗅ぎ。

Another new face and a former rescue, but a very friendly individual.  Taiga seems to be happy having her head stroked by his owner, since her tail is wagging to the right.  Taking advantage of that, the dog took a quick sniff at Taiga.

古代家の林を通って帰りました。

On our way home, we passed through the woodland with a reconstructed ancient dwelling.

古代家の近くに生えているトウカエデの葉っぱが赤味を増してきました。

イチョウなどの黄葉に交じって唯一 赤味を帯びた木になるので目立ちます。

Among the yellow leaves of ginkgo trees here, this maple tree is the only one that will eventually turn red, at which time it will really stand out.

散歩 Walks

昨夜は大雨が降って、久しぶりにタイガに雨合羽を着せて12時過ぎに就寝前のオシッコ散歩をさせました。今朝は一転青空。雨後なので蒸し暑いくらいの朝でした。今朝の散歩中、タイガが猫の新しい臭いを嗅ぎつけたらしく、精神集中して民家の垣根をのぞき込んでいます。

It started to rain in the early evening last night and, by mid-night when we went out for the last short walk, the rain had become so heavy that Taiga needed her raincoat.  In contrast, when we were ready to go out this morning, it was all blue sky and rather warm.  

As we were walking, Taiga picked up the fresh smell of a cat that must have passed through the bush and became fixated.

民家といっても、公園のように広い庭で、様々な花木に加えて果樹も色々植わっています。私には羨ましい限りの環境。

The bush belonged to a huge garden of a private house.  In addition to flowering trees, the place had various fruit trees, too.  What a dream garden!

温州ミカンもたわわ。近くの枝の間からメジロのせわしない声も聞こえてきましたが、姿は見えず。

The tangerine tree was laden with ripe fruits, and I could hear the chirping of Japanese White Eyes.  They are fond of fruits, including tangerines.

天気の良いうちにと、玄関内外のタイルをタワシと石鹸水でガシガシ掃除しました。庭仕事には専用の靴を履いて、玄関に入る前にはサンダルに履き替えていますが、それでも数か月の間には土で汚れます。蚊のいる季節は一瞬でも速く戸を閉めたいので、このような掃除はできませんでした。久しぶりに洗った後は戸を開けっ放しにして乾燥させました。

Since it was warm and dry, I cleaned the porch tiles with a brush and soapy water.  Although I change shoes when I do gardening, the tiles become dirty with soil.  During summer months, I cannot do the cleaning due to the mosquitoes who would take every chance to get inside the house.  With the mosquito season gone, I was able to leave the door wide open after washing the tiles.

外は直射日光で直ぐに乾きました。暮の大掃除のあとのようにスッキリ。

The tiles outside the house got dry quickly in the sun.  I felt so good as if I had done the year-end Big Clean.

蚊がいないので、家の中で退屈するタイガは外で道行く人たちを眺めています。最近は大人だけでなく、小学生の女の子グループもタイガの姿を見つけて声をかけてくれます。

With no fear of mosquitoes, Taiga can now stay outside instead of being bored inside.  She enjoys watching the world go by.  In addition to grown-ups who have known Taiga since she was a puppy, her recent fans include a group of elementary school girls on their way home after school.

天気は良いしタイガのコートが最近ねとっとしてきたので、午後にシャンプーしました。今日のシャンプーの後、年末にもう一回行えば今年は終わりです。ドライヤーをかける前に自然乾燥の旅で公園へ向かいました。

Taking advantage of the beautiful weather, I shampooed Taiga in the afternoon.  After today's wash, she will have another at the end of December to finish the year.  Before using the dryer, I took her to the park for natural drying.

穏やかな秋の日差しで、昨夜の雨がウソのようです。

With such a calm autumn afternoon, I cannot believe that it was raining until very early this morning.

私が黄葉にウットリしていたら、タイガが地面でスリゴロを始めました。洗ったばかり、しかもまだ乾いてもいないのにとんでもない！

As I was absorbed in watching the golden leaves, Taiga started to roll on the ground.  What was she thinking!  She wasn't even dry yet!

林を通って公園の上のほうに向かいます。

We walked through the woodland to reach the higher ground.

古代家のある林にはトウカエデも生えていて、イチョウの黄色に混じって、これから赤い葉っぱが綺麗になります。

My favourite part of the park - the wooded area with the reconstructed ancient dwelling.  Among the ginkgo trees, the maple tree in the centre will be turning red soon.

初めて会ったパピヨンの女の子。モモちゃん、７歳。とても落ち着いた性格で、タイガのことを怖がる様子もなく、お互い静かに挨拶できました。

A new face - 7 years old female Papillon, named Momo.  Although she was tiny, she was not afraid of Taiga, and they greeted each other calmly.

公園で At the Park

 中央公園手前の四中横の草地に着くと、サスケがいました。サスケは黒柴とシェパードをミックスしたような外観で、体格は巨大です。生後4ヵ月の保護犬で今の家に迎えられた当時、既にタイガよりも大きな体をしていました。でも、体格に似合わず大変なビビリです。

When we arrived at the field near the Johoku Central Park, we met Sasuke.  He looks like a mix between a black Shiba Inu and a German Shepherd, and he is huge.  When he was adopted by the present owners at 4 months old, he was already larger than Taiga.  Yet, he has always been a very timid individual.

タイガのことは慣れているので、嬉しそうに小走りで寄ってきました。

However, he feels comfortable with Taiga, and he came rushing towards us.

タイガのお尻の臭い嗅ぎに回ろうとしたら、

He was going to take a sniff at Taiga, but

タイガおばさんに阻止されました。

Taiga stopped him.

お互いリードにつながれたまま追いかけっこ。

They were both on the leash, but it did not stop them from chasing each other.

その後は私に甘えてきました。図体は大きくてもカワイイです。

After that, he came to me for a cuddle.  He knows how to melt my heart.

城北中央公園に入ると、陸上競技場横の道ではイチョウの木の黄葉が始まっていました。

The ginkgo tree avenue next to the sports ground of the Johoku Central Park were already turning into golden colour.

陸上競技場。周りはイチョウの木が沢山植わっています。人影が少ないと寒々として見えます。

The sports ground is surrounded by ginkgo trees.  The place looked cold with not many children this morning.

陸上競技場をぐるりと囲んでジョギング用の細道があります。以前は私も利用していましたが、今は家の近所をちょろっと走るだけ。ここはワンコの入場は禁止なので、入口にタイガを繋いでおきました。

Circling the sports ground, there is a narrow path which is used by joggers.  I used to run here at weekends but now I only go around the block in my neighbourhood.  Since dogs are not allowed to enter the sports ground area, I left Taiga at the entrance.

横の広場を通り過ぎるワンコたちに興味津々。この角度からタイガを見ると、腹部のくびれがくっきりしてダイエット効果が確認できます。

Taiga was absorbed in watching the dogs passing by.  Looking at her from this angle, with the curvy waist, I am confident that her diet is working.

近くの林で初めて会った2頭。左はバーニーズの女の子で名前はベルン、8歳。右はチワプーの女の子で名前はモモ、４歳。ベルンちゃんは大切に育てられた大型犬によくみられる、おおらかな性格。モモちゃんは大きな犬を見ると吠えるクセがあるそうです。

In the woodland near the sports ground, we met new faces.  On the left, a female Bernese Mountain Dog, named 'Bern', 8 years old.  On the right, a Chihuahua-Toy Poodle mix female, named Momo, 4 years old.  Bern is typical of well-brought up large dogs with an easygoing, generous personality.  As to Momo, she has a tendency to bark at larger dogs.

タイガにも吠えましたが、それでも臭い嗅ぎはしたいよう。
Momo barked at both Bern and Taiga.  Nevertheless, she wanted to take a sniff at Taiga.

顔はアライグマを連想させます。

Her face reminds me of a raccoon.

性格の良さがにじみ出ている笑顔。今朝は肌寒い朝でしたが、ベルンちゃんにもタイガにも心地よい気温なので、すっかり長居してしまいました。

Bern's smile exudes her good nature.  The morning was quite chilly for humans, but it was just the right temperature for Bern and Taiga, and we stayed there for long.

帰りは陸上競技場の下の道を通って秋の朝を満喫しました。

On our way home, we took the path that runs below the sports ground, enjoying the autumn morning.
