公園で At the park

 公園に着くと、初めて見る真っ白なシュナウザーの子が近づいてきました。10歳の女の子だそうで、タイガは初対面でズカズカ近づいて来られても、まるで年上の相手にガマンしているかのようでした。

A snow-white Schnauzer approached us when we arrived at the park.  She is a 10-year old female and, as if Taiga knew that the Schnauzer was her senior, she put up with her manner when she tried sniff her scent.

しばらく歩いているうちに会った初対面の柴犬。７歳半の女の子で名前はアキちゃん。

As we walked further, we met another new face, a female Shiba Inu, aged 7 1/2 years old, named Aki.  

飼い主さんご夫婦は私くらいの年代で、アキちゃんを目に入れても痛くないほど可愛がっているのが伝わってきました。

Her mom and dad are of my generation, and I could see that they absolutely dote on her.

カメラに向かってポーズを取りたくないタイガは、ちょうど近づいてきたミニチュアダックスに注目しているフリ。

Taiga does not want to pose for the camera and pretends to be interested in the dog approaching us.

散歩で良く通る道で見かけた見事なボケの花。（写真を撮る前にお家の方の了解を得ています。）私のカメラでは伝わりませんが、花柄が非常に大きくて豪華です。たぶん盆栽でよく使われる「黒潮」という品種だと思いますが、こんなに大きな花のは見たことありません。

Japanese quince tree in full bloom (this belongs to a house we pass on our daily walk and I got the owner's permission to take photos).  I think this is a variety called 'Kuroshio' but never have I seen such large flowers - absolutely stunning.

温かい日が続いているのでマグカップにコーヒーを入れて庭の果樹を眺めながら飲むのが楽しいです。タイガはいつもは玄関ドア前のタイルの上で座るのですが、今日はコーヒーを飲む私のすぐ横へきて何故か石の上にぎこちなく座っていました。この表情はちょっと子犬の頃を思い出させる顔です。

As the weather is warm, I often take a mug of coffee outside.  As I sat drinking the coffee, looking at my fruit trees, Taiga came closer and sat down in an awkward way.  When she has this expression on her face, it reminds me of her puppy days.

ブラッドオレンジのタルト Blood Orange Tart

去年はブラッドオレンジのモロが成り年でした。おかげで今年の１月下旬から今まで毎日ジュースを楽しんできましたが、もうそろそろ終わりなので記念にタルトを作りました。モロ、最高です。 

The Moro tree had a bumper year last growing season and I have been enjoying the result of it since late January this year.  As a tribute to the Moro plant, I have made an orange tart.

公園で At the park

 公園についたら向こうにコーギのひめ子の姿。厳密には、タイガはひめパパのほうに関心があります。いずれにせよ、タイガは尻尾フリフリ、中腰で今にも飛び出しそうです。

When we arrived at the park, Taiga spotted Himeko, a female Corgi.  To be precise, Taiga is only interested in Himeko's dad.  She is so excited that she is ready to dash off - I had to keep her on leash since there were a lot of people having picnic.

タイガが近づくと、ひめ子とひめママが迎えてくれましたが、

As Taiga got closer, Himeko and her mom greeted us, but

素通りしてひめパパに挨拶。耳がぺったんこです。私に対してこんな耳をしたことありません。数時間出かけていて帰宅しても、「召使が帰って来た」程度に思っているらしく眠そうな顔で迎えてくれるだけです。

she went straight to Himeko's dad, with her ears absolutely flat.  She never does this to me.  When I come home after several hours of shopping, she calmly looks at me as if to say 'my servant is back'.

タイガはもう嬉しくて嬉しくて。あまりの勢いにひめ子がヤキモチを焼いて、一旦飼い主さんを前脚でどついたあと、

Himeko found Taiga's enthusiasm too much and she bumped into her dad with her front legs, before planting herself between her dad and Taiga.

間に割って入りました。

There she stayed.

そんなことはお構いなしのタイガです。

No that it made any difference to Taiga.

ごめんね、ひめちゃん。ひめ子はタイガより１歳年上で、タイガが公園デビューしたときからの友達なので、タイガは今でも会うたびに低姿勢です。

Himeko is one year older than Taiga and they have been fast friends ever since Taiga made her debut in the park as a puppy.

ボケが咲いていました。たぶん「黒潮」という、盆栽でよく見るシブイ品種。

今日はボカボカ陽気なのでゆったり歩いてから、オヤツタイム。タイガの鼻の皮がむけていたのが、やっと回復しました。子犬の頃は鼻をすりむいて真っ赤になっても数日で元通りになっていたのに、年をとると回復に２週間くらいかかります。

It was such a nice and warm morning that we walked a lot before sitting for Taiga's treat.

いつも同じオヤツなのに喜んで食べてくれるのがいじらしいです。

クリロー Christmas rose

 数年前にヤフオクで香りつきのゴールド苗をいくつも買いましたが、全て枯れてしまいました。今残っているのは同じ時期に買ったこの赤花の一株だけ。この株はどんなに邪魔者扱いされても強く育っています。なぜ邪魔者扱いかというと、オクに出品されていたときの写真と現物のギャップがあまりにも大きかったからです。オクの写真では雲間草のような朱色に近い赤い花だったのに、届いた花は薄い赤紫のベインタイプだったからです。

どうせそのうち枯れるだろうと放置していたら、年々花数が増えて今では結構立派な株になりました。花の色も朱色ほどではないけど、薄い赤紫よりはマシになったので、引っこ抜かずにそのままにしておきます。

ちなみに、写真左奥の小さな葉っぱは、赤花苗の以前から有りますが、大きさはずっと変わらず。多分、ゴールド苗のこぼれ種が発芽したものです。

Christmas rose plant nearly in full bloom.  I have had this for several years and the flowers are becoming prettier than when I first bought it as the plant became more mature.

もうひとつ良く分からない植物、枸杞。2年前の秋に数センチのチビ苗が届いたのですが、鉢植えで日当たり良好の場所に置いてあったのにウドンコ病にかかりました。諦めて庭土の肥料に埋めたつもりが、去年の秋には土の中から顔を出してきました。軒下に近い最も日当たりの悪い場所です。にもかかわらず、今の状態からすると今年の夏に花が咲きそうな雰囲気です。「大実クコ」という宣伝だったので、ちょっと楽しみ。

Goji berry plant - I thought that this plant had died having got mildewed.  It re-appeared out of the ground last autumn and now it looks like it is ready to flower in summer this year.

私が久しぶりに庭仕事をしていた間、タイガは道行く人たちの観察。カメラの方を向けさせようとしても、意固地になって振り向きません。

Taiga loves watching the world go by whenever I work in the garden.

ハニーカステラ Honey Castella

 カステラを作りました。市販のものほど甘くない配合にしてあるので食べやすいです。

I made a Japanese honey castella with less sugar than store-bought ones.  

ケイパー苗 Caper plant

 注文してあったケイパー苗が今日届きました。箱から出してビックリ。親指姫のように小さいです。決して安い苗ではなかったので期待していたのですが。。。　あのサイトの苗の写真は何だったのでしょうか。あまりのギャップに「品違いかな？」とも思ったのですが、葉っぱは間違いなくケイパーです。

The caper plant I had ordered arrived today.  When I opened the box, what a disappointment!  I could not believe how TINY it was.

「激レア」というより「激ミニ」と言いたい。

私の太い人差し指との比較ではこう。苗の樹高は10cmあるか無いか。

とにかく鉢に植え付け。同時に、先日JAで買ったステビアも鉢増しするためにビニポットから出してみたら、２本入っていました。おお、330円だったけど2本も入ってお得。1,650円プラス送料のケイパーとは大違いです。

I transferred the caper into a larger pot.  I also replanted the stevia plant I bought a few days ago - I discovered that the original pot contained 2 plants.

このあとたっぷり水やりして、夜になって２階の部屋へ上げた時点では、ステビアの苗がグンと立派になっていました。まるで数時間の直射日光で成長したかのよう。大変楽しみな苗です。

I watered all the plants and, in the several hours of direct sunshine, the stevia plants seem to have expanded.  By the time I took them indoors at night, the stevia plants seemed much larger.

公園で At the park

最近めっきり春らしくなってきたので、公園での散歩もダラダラ長時間かけて楽しむことがあります。この背後の木は「アオギリ」というそうですが、かなりの高木で孤高のイメージ、いつ見てもドラマチックです。

The air is almost like spring these days, and we sometimes spend hours in the park.  My favourite tree in the park - standing tall and alone.

散々歩いたあとオヤツタイム。もう規定の量を食べ終わったのに、動こうとしないタイガ。なかなか痩せられません。

帰りに通った草地で、久しぶりに会ったマメシバのクマジロウ君。今年の５月には９歳になるタイガより１歳上の10歳です。

Kumajirou, a male miniature Shiba Inu.  He is one year older than Taiga and they have been friends since they were puppies.

お互い子犬のときからの知り合いなので、クマジロウ君の気分が乗ったときはこうやって遊びに誘ってくれます。

As a 10 year old, Kumajirou has become capricious recently but, today, he is in a mood to play with Taiga.

でも今日はタイガのほうが気が乗らないようです。

Unfortunately, Taiga was not in her mood to play.

もう一回だけオヤツタイムしましたが、また終わった後も動こうとしません。

So, we had another treat time before heading home and, as ever, Taiga refusing to move without extra treat.

最近、パッションフルーツの最初の花からの実が黒くなってきました。他に今残っているのは上のほうの４個めと５個めの花からの実です。

The passion fruit from the first flower has become black on the outside, looking ripe.  Other than this one, I still have fruits from the 4th and 5th flowers.

実際に引っ張ってみると、なかなかもげて来ない。かなりの力をかけて取れました。

It took some force to get the fruit off the vine.

表側はこうでも、

The sunny side is smooth, 

裏側はシワシワ。気温が低いと熟さないうちからシワが入るようです。

but the other side is all wrinkled.  Due to the cold climate, the fruit cannot ripen in the way it should.

切ってみました。何とも美味しそうで、実際美味しかったです。糖度計の16.9度という数値よりもずっと甘くて酸っぱい。香が何ともトロピカルで最高です。

The sugar content was only 16.9%.  However, the actual taste was much sweeter and very delicious.

夕方の買い物の帰りに立ち寄った近所のJAで見つけた苗。もしも実店舗で見かけたら買いたいと前から思っていた「ステビア」です。帰宅して試しに小さな葉っぱを一枚食べてみたら、信じられないほど甘かった。セールス文句のとおりでした。

I found this plant in the nearby shop - stevia.  Returning home, I tried one leaf to see if it was really sweet.  It was so sweet that I could not believe that I had just eaten a leaf.

タイガと記念写真。５時過ぎなので軒下に入るとカメラのフラッシュでボケてしまいましたが、こんなに小さな苗です。ハーブ類は小さく安く買って、大苗にするのが楽しいです。

I am so looking forward to growing this plant into a large bush.
