公園の姫リンゴが満開です。城北公園の方針では園内の植物には一切、農薬等を使わないので、過去に何本も消滅しています。なのでここに植わっている数本は、いつも幼い苗ばかりです。それでも開花すると眺めていて嬉しくなります。
The Japanese crab apple trees in the park are in full bloom. Under the policy of Johoku Park management, none of the plants get insecticide, whether they be fruit trees or just any other trees. As a result, crab apple trees do not last in this park and the trees are always young ones.
On our way home, we walked through the privately owned land open for the general public. This is the first time we come here this year and I started checking every tree to see if it survived the winter.
ここはモミジの木が多いので、新芽の時期は何時間でもいたくらい心地よい場所です。
This woodland has lots of Japanese maple trees and it is so pleasant that I could spend hours here if it was not for Taiga's boredom.
帰宅して庭の様子を見回っていたら気づいたのですが、今年初めて山椒の苗に蕾が出ていました。

これまでに、朝倉３本、ブドウ１本を買ったことありますが、実山椒は弱くて諦めました。どうせ実が生っても激辛ものは食べられなくなったので、数年前に地元JAで「葉山椒」として売られていた苗をダメ元で買いました。樹高20cmほどで180円くらいのが、毎年売られています。私の場合、新芽を年に２，３回使うだけなので樹形は整えずに完全放置。
Back home, I was going through the plants in my garden and noticed that the Japanese pepper plant had flower buds this year for the first time. I bought it as a male tree some 5-6 years ago, when it measured about 20cm and costing less than 2 dollars. Female trees are more expensive and they tend to be very delicate, with the result, I have lost 4 female plants in the past. In any case, I only wanted to use the leaves for my cooking since the berries are too spicy for me. So, I bought this dirt cheap 'male' tree but I had a pleasant surprise.
その苗に初めて着いた蕾をよーく見たら、雌花です。私のなかでは「葉山椒」というラベルで激安苗は雄木という意識だったので、これは嬉しいサプライズです。しかも実が生る山椒なのに日陰・完全放置で丈夫。果樹を扱うように大切に扱いはじめたとたんに過去の実山椒のようにデリケートになりそうなので、このままでいきます。
These are female flowers! Now I am looking forward to seeing the berries in the summer.
