朝散歩 Morning walk

今朝も６時過ぎに公園に到着。徐々に朝の気温が下がってきています。

久しぶりに会ったソニーちゃん。保護されたビビりの子なので、最初は私の超小型カメラを警戒していました。

We arrived at the park just after 6 a.m. today again.  Although the weather is fine, the temperature is getting noticeably lower every morning.  

We met Sonny, a rescued timid female Shiba mix.  At first, she was weary of my tiny camera.

でも、シャッター音がしないので安心したようです。動画で撮っていたので音は無し。

Soon, she became less alert since there was no noise of the shutter - I was taking a video.

だんだんと警戒心が好奇心に代わってきたようです。

Her alertness gradually changed into curiosity.  

飼い主さん曰く、おやつ関係と勘違いしているのかも。それにしては耳が後ろに倒れている。

Her dad thought that Sonny was expecting a treat.  But her ears were flat and still not really relaxed.

最後は怪訝そうに見ていました。

I will come with a treat next time.

道を渡って城北中央公園に行くと、先日初めて会った豆柴のリカちゃんとばったり。１歳と３か月なので、相変わらずキャピキャピしています。

Later, we met Rika, a miniature Shiba Inu that we met several weeks ago for the first time.  As she is only one and 3 months old, she is still restless and excited to meet another dog.

誰に会っても自分が「カワイイ」扱いされて当然、と思っている子のようで、タイガに対してもしたい放題。

Since every person calls her 'kawaii' (cute), she has a bit of diva attitude.  Fortunately, Taiga is patient and lets her do whatever she likes.

無反応なタイガを諦めて私に注意を向けてきました。本当にカワイイ。

She got bored with Taiga and started to demand attention from me.  She really is devastatingly cute.

散歩 Walks

 一日５回の散歩のうち、正午前に地元でオシッコ散歩をしたときの写真。うちから坂を下りて右に曲がろうとしたら、タイガがさかんに左方向を気にしていたのでついて行ったら、近所のマーク君のママが庭木を見て回っているところでした。姿は見えなくても気配で分かるのは、さすがに犬です。門のところへ回って声を掛けたら、出てきてくださいました。

One of 5 daily walks - a short walk just before noon.  Taiga started to pull the leash towards the opposite direction when I meant to turn right.  I followed her and found that she had detected that my neighbour was in her garden.  Taiga probably hoped to see Mark, a male Jack Russell Terrier.  He was Taiga's first friend when she started to walk outside.

タイガは私に対しては、決してこのように耳をぺったんこにして嬉しそうな仕草をしません。外面の良い犬です。

タイガはもう嬉しくて門の中へ入らんばかりにリードを引っ張ります。

さらっと挨拶を交わすと、

マー君はすり抜けてしまいました。

タイガはめげずにマー君ママに甘えます。このあと一緒に短めの散歩をしました。

夕方の散歩で城北公園へ出かけました（朝の6時過ぎにも来ていますが）。夕方といってもまだ４時前でしたが、カメラの都合で日陰はまるで夕闇のように暗くなりました。

タイガが子犬の頃によく会った黒柴のラッキー君。最後に会ったのは何年前かも思い出せないくらいの久しぶりです。タイガが10歳なので、ラッキー君は14歳くらいのはずです。以前はとても大柄だったのが、まるで骨格が縮小したように普通の柴サイズになっていました。

Afternoon walk in the Johoku Central Park.  Although it was before 4 o'clock, the photos look dark (I took my new tiny camera with me but I am not very familiar with it yet).   We met a male black Shiba Inu, called Lucky, after many, many years.  He seems to have shrunk in his old age (he must be about 14 years old).  

お互い覚えているようです。以前から挨拶は静かだった記憶。

Their greeting was always mild, and it was the same today.

これまた何年ぶりかの再会。タイガより１歳上のイチちゃん。タイガが赤ちゃんのとき、朝散歩の群れから勝手に脱走してしまったとき、車の下にうずくまっていたところをイチちゃんパパに見つけてもらったことは今も忘れません。子供の頃のタイガは、飽きるとプイっと群れから脱走するクセがありました。他の飼い主さんたちはその心理が理解できずに驚いていましたが、私も保育園から小学校低学年までは同じことをやっていたので、文句言えませんでした。

Another familiar face - a female black Shiba, called Ichi, who is one year older than Taiga.  When they were puppies, they used to play together every morning.  In those days, Taiga had the habit of escaping in the middle of playing among the pack.  On one such occasions, Ichi's dad managed to find Taiga crouched underneath a car - it scared me when I though of the worst possibility.

この子は初めて会う男の子で、恐ろしく甘えん坊。

タイガは無視で私に近寄ろうとピョンピョンしていました。

He was not interested in meeting Taiga and, instead, kept trying to jump at me.

I wouldn't have minded, but his mom was trying to teach him manners, so I did not encourage him.

みんなと別れたあと、しばらく草の上でくつろぎました。最近は雨続きだったので、今日の快晴と暖かくて乾燥した空気が心地よかったです。

Recently, we had several days of cold rain and today's blue sky and warm air were so welcome.  After we said good-bye to our friends, Taiga enjoyed a long rest on the dry grass.

レアちゃんetc Misc.

 早朝散歩で、近所のジャーマンピンシャーのレアちゃんとばったり。まだ子犬の領域を出ていないようなレアちゃんがズカズカとタイガの臭い嗅ぎに近づいてきましたが、タイガは怒りません。実際、どんな状況でタイガが怒るのか、飼い主の私でさえ思いつかないくらい。

We met our neighbour's German Pinscher, Leah, during our morning walk.  Although she is still a puppy, Leah approaches Taiga directly to take a sniff.  Taiga never gets upset.  In fact, I cannot imagine what situation would make her upset enough to growl.  I have never seen her angry.

早朝は空気が冷たくて軍手をしていたら、うっかり白いモヤのように映り込んでしまいました。ボカシのつもりではありません。

空気が冷える季節になると、レアちゃんの「盗っ人」頭巾の登場。耳が薄っぺらいので、寒い季節には裂けてくるそうです。甲斐犬は耳の厚みも特徴のひとつなので、そういう問題は想像したこともありませんでした。

When the weather turns cool, Leah dons this 'burglar's hood'. According to her mom, Leah's ears are so thin that they tear easily when it gets cold outside.  For Kaiken, the thick ears are one of the traits of the breed, so it is hard for me to imagine the problem.

レアちゃんと出会うと、この短いシッポをピコピコ振ってくるのがカワイイです。

Every time Lear meets us, she wags this tiny tail furiously.  So adorable.

帰宅して二度寝中のタイガ。一日５回の散歩をしていても、タイミングを外すと漏れているときがあります。昨日の午後にそれが起きたので、色違いの敷物に変えました。私はこのネコ模様が気に入っています。

Taiga having a second sleeping session after getting home.  Although we go out 5 times a day, if I misjudge the timing (i.e. leaving it for too long between walks), she can still have an accident.  It happened yesterday and I had to change the carpet cover.  This cat pattern is my favourite and I bought 2 of them.

敷物はハンディクリーナー掃除機に対応できる厚みがあり、かつ汚れたら洗濯機に放り込んできれいさっぱりの手軽さもあります。

しばらくは汚さないでね。

The cover is thick enough to withstand a handy vacuum cleaner, and flexible enough to be thrown into the washing machine when soiled.  Hope this one will last for some time.

午後に地元ＪＡでバジルの苗を買ってきました。寒くなったら室内へ取り込みで、冬の間もバジルが利用できるか実験です。夏用のはお盆が過ぎる頃には葉っぱが固くなるので、もう処分してあります。

レジのところのおじさんが、私が「袋を要らない」と言ったら、ささっと新聞紙で折り紙のように袋を作って苗を入れてくれました。これ、日本ならではの気づかい。

I got a pot of basil plants at the nearby JA shop.  The basil plants bought in spring become unusable after mid-August.  I am hoping that these new ones will last by keeping them indoors during winter. 

At the cashier's counter, when I said that I didn't need a plastic bag, the man quickly made an origami container with newspaper so that my hands would stay clean.  How thoughtful of him.

この時期、苗をほぐして植え付けるのはリスクが高すぎるので、売られていた状態の一塊のままで10号鉢に植えました。相変わらず写真撮影に非協力的なタイガです。

Normally, I would try to disentangle the lump into many individual plants before putting them into soil.  Given the approaching cold season, I decided to plant them as they came in the plastic pot.

散歩 Walks

 今朝の散歩帰りに通りかかった屋敷林では柿が色づき始めていました。ここも古くからある農家で、家の周りに広い庭を残して、その外側を道に面して「コの字」を書くようにさらに広い範囲が一般に提供されています。

On our way home from the park this morning, we passed a woodland which was open to the general public.  The persimmon fruits were starting to turn orange.

その外側だけでも数本の柿の木がありますが、古～い屋敷林なので、どの柿の木も渋柿。

Unfortunately, all of the persimmon trees are astringent type.  This is part of an ancient farm house and, in old days, sweet types of persimmon trees were rare.

帰宅してリビングでくつろぐタイガ。こう涼しくなると、網戸を通して差し込む日光が有難くなります。秋ですね。

一日５回のうちの午後の散歩ではエゴノキがたくさん生えている草地を目指しました。きつい坂道を上ったところにあるサスケの家の前を通りかかったら、シェパードのように鼻を鳴らす音がしました。サスケが玄関前でくつろいでいたところでした。生後4か月のときから知っている保護犬で、赤ちゃんの頃はぱっと見、黒柴の雰囲気でしたが、だんだんとシェパードっぽく育ちました。本物のシェパードに負けない巨大犬です。

We went out in the early afternoon, as one of the 5 walks per day.  We were headed for the field with styrax trees.  As we were approaching the field, I heard a high-pitched nasal sound like that of a German Shepherd.  It was Sasuke who lives almost next door to the field.  He was relaxing in front of the porch.

尻尾は柴で、くるりんと巻きます。いつまで経っても私には甘えん坊。エゴノキの草地はこのすぐ近くなので、タイガを呼びながら遊ばせていると、家の中からサスケが呼ぶ大声が聞こえてくることがあります。塀越しに背中を撫でたら綿毛が舞い上がりました。まだ換毛期のようです。

He was adopted when he was 4 months old.  At that time, he looked more like a Black Shiba Inu.  Now, he is as large as a German Shepherd, but with a Shiba tail.  He still behaves like a big baby with me and, when I stroked him, endless amount of undercoat started flying in the air.  He is still moulting.

herself at home.

帰りは違う道を通りました。確認したいリンゴの木のある家の前を通るためです。今年もいくつか実が生っています。目を凝らしてみると、フジリンゴのような果皮です。冬に通っても石灰硫黄合材がかかっているのを見たことがないので、ちょっと希望が湧いてきます。

On our way home, we took a different route to pass in front of a garden with an apple tree.  Looking at the skin of the fruits, it looks like a Fuji apple tree.  I pass by this place all year round but I have never seen the tree with pesticide treatment, which gives me hope about my apple trees.

朝散歩 Morning walk

 公園へ向かう道の途中で出会った子。ブルドッグミックスの女の子で、4歳半のモモちゃん。

We met a new face on our way to the park.  A female Bulldog mix, named Momo, 4 1/2 years old.

他所のワンコにも人にも全く無関心というそぶりで、私に触られたあとは

さっと行ってしまいました。

she pulled her dad away to go home.

城北中央公園。伸びた雑草の朝露がキラキラ光っていました。

At the Johoku Central Park, the grass was glittering with morning dew.

今朝は懐かしい面々に偶然出くわしました。ゴマ柴のキト。タイガより数歳下の女の子です。コロコロの体形。

We had an unexpected reunion with many old faces.  This is Kito, a female Shiba Inu with goma-type coat.  She is several years younger than Taiga and we have known her sine her puppy days.

キトは大のカメラ嫌いですが、何とかこちらを向かせた瞬間にパチリ。

Kito hates the camera but I managed to get a smile from her.

甲斐犬のヒナとセナが通りかかりました。ヒナのシッポが太刀尾状態。別にキトに警戒しているのではなく、天然の太刀尾です。羨ましい。私は紀州犬の太刀尾に憧れていたので、タイガが子犬の頃はシッポの先を手で持ってクセをつけようと努力したけど、ムダでした。

Hina and Sena, the Kaiken sisters, passed by.  I love how Hina's tail stands straight.  She is not being alert and her tail is naturally like this - it is called "tachi-o", with 'tachi' meaning a sword.

でも私は少し離れていないと写真がとれないので常に後ずさり。

I had to step back to be able to take a picture - Hina looking as if to say "why?".  She is very loyal to Taiga and me.

今朝はめずらしくジュディにも会えました。タイガが生意気過ぎた子犬の頃に厳しく躾けてくれた恩人です。

Judy, a Flat-coated Retriever mix, was also there.  When Taiga was a rambunctious puppy, July was the one who taught her manners.

この子は初対面。１歳と２か月の豆サイズの柴犬で、名前はリカちゃん。

A new face: a pea-sized Shiba Inu, 1 year and 2 months old female, named Rika.

全くものおじしない子。人間に会うたびに「カワイイ」を連発されるので、それが自分の名前のように反応する子です。

In spite of her size, she is fearless because everyone has been kind to her in her short life experience.  Since every human being who sees her utters the word 'kawaii' (cute), she thinks it is her second name and reacts to it.

本当にカワイイ。

ジュディが私に挨拶しようと前に出て来ました。フラットレトリーバーのミックスで大型犬ですが、タイガより５つ上の15歳になっても元気に公園へ来ているので、タイガにも頑張ってほしいです。

Judy came forward to greet me.  She is a very large dog and you would not think she was 15 years old from her good condition.  I am hoping that Taiga would be as robust as Judy.

私がリカちゃんにかかりっきりだったので、タイガがリカちゃんのお父さんに甘え始めました。

Since I was absorbed with Rika, Taiga started snuggling up to Rika's dad.

柴犬のコンちゃんが登場。タイガより数歳若い男の子で、コンちゃんが生後４か月頃から会っているのですが、近年　警戒心が強くなって他所のワンコと距離を置くようになりました。

Kon, a male Shiba Inu arrives.  He has always been a skittish individual.  We first met him when he was 4-months old and he used to play with Taiga without problem until a few years ago.  Now he does not want anyone to come too close.

なので、ちょっと離れたところから皆を観察。

So he observes other dogs from a distance.
