公園で At the park

四中近くの草地に着くと、利休梅が満開でした。

全体的に緑色っぽく見えるのは、

Exochorda racemosa flowers in full bloom.

花の中心が葉っぱと同じくらい緑色だから。この時期に開花すると、桜の人気に押されてあまり注目してもらえなさそうです。

帰り道、これから公園に向かう近所のゴロウと出くわしました。タイガのボーイフレンドです（タイガのボディーランゲージから明らかですが）。

On our way home, we met Goro, my neighbour's dog and Taiga's boyfriend, who was on his way to the park.  Taiga's excitement is quite obvious.

帰宅してキウイのレインボーレッドの蕾をチェック。

Back home, my red-fleshed kiwi's flower buds are growing well.

暑いのでタイガがいつでも涼しい家の中に戻れるように玄関ドアを開けたままにしています。蚊が出る前のほんの短い期間にこれをしますが、一旦蚊が発生するとフィラリア予防のためにどんなに天気が良くても外に出しません。いつも5月からフィラリアの薬を飲ませはじめます。

I keep the front door ajar this time of the year, since it is too warm outside.  This way, Taiga can come back inside anytime she wants to, but this is possible only during the short period before mosquitos being to appear.

洗濯物を干すのに2階に出たら甘い香りがしました。星タンゴールの開花が始まっています。

'Hoshi Tangor' already starting to flower.  This plant is kept away from other citrus plants and, thanks to that, its fruits have no seeds every year.  In any case, this is the only citrus tree in my neighbourhood in bloom - not even my other citrus plants are anywhere near ready.

単独で咲くので今年も種無しの実になりそうです。鉢植えでも大きな実がなるし、食味は最高の品種です。

去年の11月に種を蒔いたキーライム（マナオ）を鉢上げしました。ちなみに、写真下のほうに写り込んでいる黒いビニールポットのは、先日届いたバタフライピーの種を蒔いた一部です。

発芽後の初年度なので、今年の成長は本葉が数枚で終わるかもしれません。

As this is the first year after germinating, they may not grow much this year, but they can if they want to in the large pots.

公園で At the park

 昨日につづいて今日も良い天気でした。公園の桜は日ごとにガクが目だってきていますが、青空を背景にすると何だかシアワセな気持ちになります。珍しく私のコンデジで明るい写真が撮れました。

We are enjoying a warm and dry spell right now.  Even though the cherry blossoms are almost gone, seeing the branches against the blue sky gives me happy feelings.

さっそくタイガに指示をしてポーズを取らせようとしましたが、

直ぐに飽きて、これ見よがしにリードを咥えて暴れ始めました。まあ、和犬ですので..... ひいき目に言えば独立心が強い、洋犬との比較で言えば飼い主の要求を理解する気も無い。

she got bored immediately, and started playing with the leash.  A typical Japanese dog - doesn't want to be told what to do.

この広場にソメイヨシノが植えられたとき、品種違いが１本混ざっていたようです。この白い花が咲く木はソメイヨシノより遅く咲いて、花の後は100%に近い自家受粉で真っ黒いサクランボが成ります。結構美味しい実なので、毎年ひそかに楽しみにしています。

This cherry tree with white blossoms is an odd one out.  When they planted Somei Yoshino cherry trees some 15 years ago, the supplier must have made a mistake.  This tree actually produces cherries, and a profuse amount of cherries every year at that, while Somei Yoshino is basically a flowering variety.

ソメイヨシノとの比較。

The pink tree in the background is Somei Yoshino.  When the cherries of this white tree become ripe, they attract lots of wild birds.

四中そばの草地には数本の姫リンゴが植わっています。

There are also several crab apple trees in this park.

リンゴの蕾を見ると、ほのぼの気分になります。

I love watching the flower buds of apple trees - they make me happy and optimistic for no reason.

うちではエビネの蕾が出始めました。この苗は３年くらい前にオクで買った、香りのあるエビネ、しかも黄花・素芯です。左の小さいほうは葉っぱがまだ開いていないけど、上からのぞき込むと蕾が確認できます。

Back at home, some Ebine orchids are starting to show flower buds.  This one is supposed to be a deep yellow flower variety (first time flowering this year) with a fragrance which is very rare.

この苗は、エビネ専門の育苗業者から紫色のコオズ系ニオイエビネを買ったときに、札落ちした小さな苗がオマケで送られてきたものです。育苗者でさえ何色の花なのか分からない苗なので、開花を見るのがワクワクです。

This plant is also flowering for the first time this year.  It came as a free gift, when I bought another fragrant Ebine, and even the grower did not know the colour of flowers.

今日届いた種。前から育ててみたかったものです。東南アジア原産のバタフライピー、またはチョウマメの種。花は生または乾燥させてお茶として飲みます。花びらの青い色にはポリフェノールがあり、アンチエイジングなどの効能があるそうです。

Seeds of butterfly peas arrived today.  I have never grown them before but the flowers seem to be quite useful as a herb.

袋から出してみると、意外と大きい種です。マメ科植物は移植を嫌う印象なので、鉢に直まきする予定ですが、半分は一晩ぬるま湯に漬けておき、それが影響あるかどうかも実験したいです。

桜見納め Last of cherry blossoms

 今年はつい２，３日前まで雨風がよくあったのに意外と長持ちしました。もう明らかにピークは過ぎたものの、今日のような良い天気の日は花見気分になってしまいます。

まずは茂呂山公園を歩きました。かなり花は散っています。

In spite of the long rain and strong winds until 2 days ago, the cherry blossoms have been hanging on rather well.  We first went to Moroyama Park, where the cherry trees started flowering earlier than other places.

道には雨後の花びらが張り付いています。

Cherry blossom petals look glued to the ground after the rain last night.

橋を渡っていつもの四中横の広場へ向います。

We crossed the river to go to our usual park.

ここはコロナ前は毎年人で一杯でしたが、平日・週末に関わらず静かでのんびりした雰囲気です。

Not many people although close to lunch time.

この広場で唯一の枝垂れ八重桜。いつもソメイヨシノに少し遅れて咲くので、今が満開です。

The only weeping cherry tree in this park, which flowers later than 'Somei Yoshino'.

ソメイヨシノの枝は結構スカスカです。

２，３日前に注文した苗が今日の午後に届きました。赤花八重ハマナス系の「ハンザ」です。うちには疑惑の赤花八重苗（たぶん中国原産の「マイカイ」）がありますが、この苗はこだわりの育苗者から入手したので正真正銘のハンザです。両方の苗が同時期に開花したら、花を比較するのが楽しみです。

A new rose plant: 'Hansa', or, Rosa Rugosa Rubra Plena.  I have another plant that I bought last summer, but I have a suspicion that it is not Hansa.  So, I am looking forward to comparing the flowers eventually.   

お惣菜パン Savory buns

 シーフードのお惣菜パンを作りました。３種類で、ツナ、サーディン、ベビーホタテ入りのパンです。具が多めなので、これだけでピクニックランチになります。もう桜の花は終わりましたが、気候が涼しいうちに何度か公園でランチをしたいです。外で食べるとき、一応タイガのドライフードも持って行きますが、一粒も食べようとしません。しかもてきめんに太る。

Savory buns with seafood stuffing: tuna, sardines, and baby scallops.  The cherry blossom season is over but I intend to take Taiga out for picnic lunches before the weather gets too warm.  Buns like these will be perfect.
