桜見納め Last of cherry blossoms

 今年はつい２，３日前まで雨風がよくあったのに意外と長持ちしました。もう明らかにピークは過ぎたものの、今日のような良い天気の日は花見気分になってしまいます。

まずは茂呂山公園を歩きました。かなり花は散っています。

In spite of the long rain and strong winds until 2 days ago, the cherry blossoms have been hanging on rather well.  We first went to Moroyama Park, where the cherry trees started flowering earlier than other places.

橋を渡っていつもの四中横の広場へ向います。

We crossed the river to go to our usual park.

ここはコロナ前は毎年人で一杯でしたが、平日・週末に関わらず静かでのんびりした雰囲気です。

Not many people although close to lunch time.

この広場で唯一の枝垂れ八重桜。いつもソメイヨシノに少し遅れて咲くので、今が満開です。

２，３日前に注文した苗が今日の午後に届きました。赤花八重ハマナス系の「ハンザ」です。うちには疑惑の赤花八重苗（たぶん中国原産の「マイカイ」）がありますが、この苗はこだわりの育苗者から入手したので正真正銘のハンザです。両方の苗が同時期に開花したら、花を比較するのが楽しみです。

A new rose plant: 'Hansa', or, Rosa Rugosa Rubra Plena.  I have another plant that I bought last summer, but I have a suspicion that it is not Hansa.  So, I am looking forward to comparing the flowers eventually.   

お惣菜パン Savory buns

 シーフードのお惣菜パンを作りました。３種類で、ツナ、サーディン、ベビーホタテ入りのパンです。具が多めなので、これだけでピクニックランチになります。もう桜の花は終わりましたが、気候が涼しいうちに何度か公園でランチをしたいです。外で食べるとき、一応タイガのドライフードも持って行きますが、一粒も食べようとしません。しかもてきめんに太る。

Savory buns with seafood stuffing: tuna, sardines, and baby scallops.  The cherry blossom season is over but I intend to take Taiga out for picnic lunches before the weather gets too warm.  Buns like these will be perfect.

桜満開 Cherry blossoms in full bloom

 木曜夜から金曜日朝方にかけて雨の予報だったので、花びらが散り始める前の最後の写真を撮りに公園へ向いました。かなり気温が高かったので、シャツにペラペラのダウンベストで十分暖かいほど。

According to the weather forecast, heavy rain was expected starting Thursday night to Friday morning.  So, we headed for the park to enjoy the cherry blossoms while we could.  The weather was so warm that a shirt and a flimsy down vest were enough.

平日のせいか予想したほどには人出がありません。

Not many people, probably due to a weekday.

枝垂れ八重桜も咲き進んできました。

Even the weeping cherry tree has started to bloom.

造花のように綺麗です。

久しぶりにコンちゃん（コン太）に偶然会えました。が、タイガが近づくと軽く唸りました。タイガは体裁が悪いのか、しらんぷりで草の臭い嗅ぎ。

We ran into Konta, a male Shiba Inu, after a long absence.  Konta seems to have forgotten Taiga and he lightly growled at her.  They used to play everyday before Covid.

タンポポも負けずに綺麗です。

Finally, another favourite flower of mine, dandelion.

スモモ苗到着 New plum plants arriving

 注文してあったスモモ苗が届きました。左が今回本命のハニーハート、右が送料の関係でもう１本注文した李王。しっかりと箱に固定されて完璧な梱包です。これまで何度か利用したことのある「ガーデン〇トーリー」さんからの苗です。

この２本の太さや形状から明らかなように、ハニーハートは２年生の苗を切り詰めて発送したもののようです。右の李王は正真正銘の新苗。サイト上ではハニーハートも「１年生苗」という表示になっていたのですが、よほど在庫がなくなっていたのでしょう。私が注文した直後に売り切れ表示に切り替わっていました。

言うまでもなく、私としては２年生の苗が届くなんて、嬉しいサプライズです。毎年、江古田の八百屋さんでハニーハートを買って食べているほど気に入っている品種なので、１年でも早く収穫したいです。

Two new plants arrived this afternoon: both Japanese varieties, 'Honey Heart' on the left, and 'Riou' on the right.  I buy the fruits of Honey Heart from a local shop every summer, so I know the taste.  Riou is said to have a superior taste as well as having highly fragrant flesh.  They said on the shop site that both were 'new plants', meaning plants from 2021.  However, it is obvious that Honey Heart is a year older than Riou.  They must have been running down on stock because, after I placed my order on Honey Heart, it went 'out of stock' immediately.  As far as I am concerned I am thrilled to have an older plant since it means I can harvest that much sooner.

よーく見ると、最近まで花が咲いていたようです。もしかしたら、今年の夏の間にうまく育てると来年の開花が期待できるかも。

On closer inspection of Honey Heart, I can see that there were flowers until recently.

ビニールポットの土は出荷の際に根っこの周りに詰め込んだものなので、ポットから出したとたんにあっさりと取れました。根っこがかなり切られている。上手な人が育てると、むしろこれくらい根の無いほうが勢いよく育つのでしょうが、私にはちょっと試練の苗です。

They cut the roots without hesitation when they packed the plants.  For a seasoned gardener, this means that the plants will grow rapidly.  However, for an amateur like me, this is a bit worrying - still, I am up to the challenge.

とにかく、いつも愛用している用土と鹿沼土で植えつけ。

Anyhow, I have planted them in 30cm pots with the trusted soils from the local garden shop.  I am getting so excited, imagining how they grow new branches this summer. 😊💖

曇り空の桜 Cherry blossoms under overcast sky

 今日は曇り空のうえに結構寒かったです。桜の花が長持ちして嬉しいですが、寒くて早く家に帰りたいほどでした。

It was cold and miserable weather and the cherry blossoms appeared somber as well.

早々とタイガのオヤツを済ませて来た道を引きかえそうとしたら、

I gave Taiga her treat and wanted to go home as soon as possible, but

タイガはそのつもりはなかったようで、川を渡って公園の上のほうまで連れていかれました。寒々とした景色のなかで、保育園の子らがピクニックランチを楽しんでいました。

she had another idea and took me to the upper part of the park across the river.  However, no more cheerful here.  

どこを見ても本当に寒々した景色です。

私が上のほうばかりを見ていたらタイガが急にクシャミをしたのですが、原因は通りがかった母娘3人づれのシャボン玉のようです。

As I was looking up the branches, Taiga suddenly sneezed.  A mother and her two daughters were passing by blowing bubbles and Taiga got one of them in her nose.

私はシャボン玉が大好きなので、もっと吹いていただけるようリクエスト。

Since I love soap bubbles, I asked them to blow some more and they readily complied.

お礼を言って別れたあとは、また桜。明日も曇りの予報ですが、最高気温が19度となっているのでもう少し楽しめそうです。
