朝散歩 Morning Walk

 台風の影響が去って、今朝は雲一つない青空。しかも寒すぎず暑すぎず快適な天気なので、私の気に入りの6丁目の一角を歩きました。

The effect of No. 21 typhoon (Kong-rey) was gone, and the sky was blue since early morning.  The temperature was neither too cold nor too warm.  It being such a perfect morning, we walked in my favourite part of the neighbouring district.

この通りはいつ来てもほっこりします。東京というよりはどこか静かな田舎町を歩いているような雰囲気。

I feel so relaxed when I walk through this stretch of road.  It feels like a quiet small town far away from Tokyo.

途中で出会った初めての子。９歳のマルチーズミックスの男の子。左耳が立っているので「『片耳立ちのチコ』と申します」と、飼い主さんが言っていました。

We met a new face - a male Maltese mix, 9 years old.  His dad introduced him as "Chico with an upright ear".  His left ear was standing.

ちょうどそこへやって来たトイプードルの子は、着ている服は男の子っぽくても実は女の子で、名前はココ。

Soon, we were joined by a female Toy Poodle.  Judging from its outfit, I thought it was a boy, but it was a girl named Coco.

タイガも含め皆のんびりな性格で、穏やかに挨拶できました。

They were both very gentle creatures and greeted each other peacefully.

タイガは相手の年齢、性別、体格などに関わらず、誰にオシリの臭い嗅ぎをされても怒りません。

Taiga does not get upset whoever takes a sniff at her back end - regardless of the age, gender, size, etc.

帰りは金魚の水槽のある家の前を通りました。

We passed in front of the house with the fish tanks, to see how the goldfish were doing.

寒くなったせいか、ほとんど動かずにフワッと浮いているだけ。数も以前と比べて随分減っています。家の中に一部取り込んだのでしょうか。

Probably due to the colder weather, the fish were hardly moving, looking as if they were floating in the air.  Also, the owner must have taken some into the house, since the number seems to have gone down drastically.

草ぼうぼうの空き地の奥の柿の木には赤く色づいた実が沢山なっています。そのそばで日向ぼっこをしていた猫がじっとこちらを見ていて、

When we were passing by an empty plot with overgrown grass, I noticed my favourite fruit tree - a persimmon tree with lots of ripe fruits.  There was a cat staring at me from the distance.

塀伝いにこちらに来そうな勢い。

It came down to the fence leading towards us.

猫は理解不能な生き物なので立ち去ろうとしたら座り込んで、再度じっとこちらを見ていました。さわらぬ神にたたりなし。でも、柿が美味しそうでした。

To me, cats are unpredictable creatures, so I made a gesture to walk away.  It sat down again but kept its gaze on me.  Better to be safe.  But I did enjoy looking at the beautiful persimmon fruits.

公園で At the Park

 朝の公園に着くと、ちょうど柴犬のコンちゃんもやって来ました。他に人気が無かったので、しばし追いかけっこの遊びをさせました。

On arriving at the park, we met Kon, a male Shiba Inu, who is about 7 years old.  Taiga has known him since he was a puppy.  There was no-one else nearby, so we let them run freely.

でもタイガのスタミナ不足でじきに終了。

Soon, Taiga ran out of her energy, which ended the chase.

いつもはタイガのコートを見て「赤いなあ」と思っていますが、コンちゃんの赤色はキツネの赤さで違う魅力があります。

Normally, when I look at Taiga, I think her coat is red.  However, Kon's red coat is of another kind - the colour of a fox.  He even looks like a fox and his name 'Kon' is associated with the way we think foxes bark in Japanese.

タイガはコンちゃんのお姉ちゃんからオヤツをもらって大満足。

Taiga was happy having got treats from Kon's sister.

そのあと方角を変えて、久しぶりに茂呂山公園へ上がってみました。

After saying goodbye to Kon, we headed for the Moroyama Park which we had not visited for some time.

桜の木は猛暑の夏にすっかり葉っぱを落としたようです。

The cherry trees seem to have lost most of their leaves during the scorching summer.

地面にはどんぐりがいっぱい落ちています。

The ground was covered with acorns.

広場に上がると誰もいない。

When we reached the top of the hill, there was no-one.

短く刈られた草や土が冷たくて気持ち良いらしく、スリゴロが始まりました。

The grass had been cut and the soil was cold, so Taiga enjoyed a good rolling over.

私は広場の真ん中で何も考えず動かずにいるのが一番楽でした。

For me, it was comfortable to just stand in the middle of the field thinking about nothing.

公園で At the Park

 今日は一日じゅう晴れて、台風がらみのぐずついた天気からは一時的に開放されました。公園に着くと近所のジャックラッセルのマーク君がいました。マー君の家は我が家から20mほどしか離れていませんが、現在建て替え中で今は他で仮住まいなので、会うのは久しぶりです。来年の帰還が楽しみです。

The sky was blue all day today, which was a nice break from the typhoon-related rains.  The typhoon is lingering somewhere south of the main islands and rain will be coming back tomorrow afternoon.  At the park, we met Mark, our neighbour's Jack Russell Terrier.  His house is only about 20 meters away from ours, but it is being rebuilt and they currently live in a temporary house.  We will be able to meet them more often after they come back early next year.

古代家の林へ上がる途中にある、犬友のあいだで「窪地」と呼ばれる広場。青空を背景にハケで描いたような白い雲が印象的です。
When we went up to the upper part of the park, the sky was beautiful with a strange pattern of clouds, as if someone had used a brush to scatter the clouds randomly.

上空では空気の動きが速いのでしょうか。

Does this mean that the air is moving very fast up in the sky?

下の林へ戻って帰ります。ここはイチョウの木が何本かあるので、地面は落ちた実で覆われています。

We came back to the woodland near the entrance of the park.  There are several ginkgo trees here and the ground is covered with fallen gingko fruits.

タイガはまだ帰りたくないらしく、ふんばって動かない。
Taiga was not ready to go home.

何とか説得して林から出たら、カンタの飼い主さんが偶然自転車で通りかかりました。カンタの家は道を挟んで公園の隣、のような場所なのでカンタを連れてきてもらうことにしました。

人が来ない上の林で待っていると、やって来ました。久しぶりなのでタイガは喜び勇んで駆けて行きますが、

When I nearly persuaded Taiga to move, there came Kanta's owner on her bicycle, enjoying her day off.  We agreed to meet in the woods where it is always deserted, and she hurried home to fetch Kanta.  When he arrived, Taiga was so excited to see him after a long time and she rushed to greet him.

カンタにスルーされました。

But Kanta simply walked passing her.

完全に無視されています。

Taiga was completely ignored...

ふたりがあまりにも遊ばないので、オヤツでお別れです。ジャーキーが１個しか残っていなかったので、半分ずつ。

Since they were inactive, the meeting came to an end shortly.  I had only one piece of treat left, so I broke it into half.

勘違い犬のタイガが一飲みにしようとしました。

Oblivious of Kanta, Taiga nearly ate the whole thing.

そこで、半割の１個をまずカンタに。お上品にゆっくりたべます。

So, I gave the first half to Kanta, which he ate in a gentle manner.

対してタイガは、かっさらうように持って行きました。

In contrast, Taiga took hers in an instant from my hand.

育て親として恥ずかしくなるほど下品な犬。ヨダレが鼻の上についているし。

Such a lack of social grace, not forgetting the drool on her snout.  I felt embarrassed as her mom.

また雨 Raining again

 台風21号の影響で天気がぐずついています。お昼ご飯後の散歩の時間になってザザ降り。しばらく見合わせようかとも思いましたが、タイガが出かける気満々なのでオシッコ散歩に出ました。

Due to the approaching typhoon Kong-rey (typhoon No. 21), the weather is very changeable.  It started to rain heavily just as we were going out for Taiga's short walk around the block in the early afternoon.

本当に待てない？

Can you not wait a little longer?

玄関ドア前の食用菊「松風」が開花直前です。菊は毎年植え替えるのが基本だそうですが、うちはそんなスペース余裕がないので、株の移植のかわりに今年の春にごっそり土を入れ替えました。根っこについていた土もふるい落としたので、実質的な植え替えと思っています。結果、4-5本植わっているだけで、このようにワサワサしています。

The edible chrysanthemum in front of the porch is about to bloom.  I hear that you should replant chrysanthemums every winter, but I do not have the space to do it.  So, I changed the soil entirely and replanted the winter roots having removed all the soil from the roots as well.  It has had a good effect - this cluster consists of only 4 or 5 plants.

手前はノコンギク「桃山」を2ヵ所に植えたうちのひとつ。土がカツカツの山野でやっと生きているような頼りない雰囲気です。日当たりとしてはうちの一等地のはずです。

The second batch of pink wild aster 'Momoyama' (in front) is not thriving.  I will plant it in a large pot this coming winter so that it does not have to compete with other plants.

手前の紫のノコンギクが咲き始めています。導入してから数年同じ場所で、ブラッドオレンジの根元です。

The purple wild aster growing at the foot of an orange tree is just about to bloom.  It has been there since I bought it several years ago.

以上を門のところから見ると、こう。

これは門の階段の左側に植えてある紫のノコンギク。ブラッドオレンジの根元で増えすぎたので、スモモの間に株分けしたのですが、菊の植え替えのように、土が新しくなって急激に増殖したようです。手前は２鉢目の食用菊「十五夜」。
The yellow flowers are the spare pot of the edible chrysanthemum 'Jugoya'.  The seller on the internet site sent me more than promised and I had to find another pot.  The purple flowers beyond are a part of the wild aster from the bottom of the orange tree - they had thrived too much, and I had to find a new home for some of them.  Just like chrysanthemums, wild asters seem to benefit from replanting.

門の外の十五夜。樹勢がグネグネするので、生産農家の人たちは支柱をどうしているのか興味あります。
