今日のパッションフルーツ Passion fruits

今日は随分と寒くて、練馬区の予想最高気温は19℃となっています。この調子だと今月いっぱいでパッションフルーツのツルを刈り込んで、室内へ取り込むことになりそう。

最近気づいたのですが、９月中の開花時期に10個ほど授粉したあとは花が咲いても全く無視していたのに、10月に入って咲いた花が自家受粉したようです。バルコニーの軒下で、仮に人口授粉してやりたくても到底届かない位置に咲いた花です。なので、摘果もできない状態。

The weather is really getting cooler - today's expected maximum temperature is 19℃.  By the end of this month, I will be cutting the vines down to about 40cm so that I can take the plants indoors for the coming  winter.  

I have never known this Edulis variety to self-pollinate.  However, some of the flowers that opened in October now have fruits growing.  Due to the height, I cannot reach these young fruits even though they are just wasting energy of the vine.

こちらは９月開花からの実。害獣が再び訪れることもなく順調に育っています。ツルは夏のあいだ日よけ雨よけとしての効果バツグンでしたが、この時期はガラス戸を通して日光を取り入れたい。

These are fruits that set from September blooming.  The creature that came nightly during the summer to drop the fruits have not returned, so the fruits are growing very nicely.  The plants have served as a shield against rain and direct sun light during the summer but, now, I would love to take in sun's warmth into my bedroom.

これは寝室のガラス戸すぐそばの実。毎朝カーテンを開けると直面する光景です。

This is the sight I see every morning when I open the curtains.

サイズはお店のに劣りません。こんなに簡単に栽培できて、しかも最高に美味しいとなると、エドゥリスがダントツで普及していることに納得。

The fruit's size is as large as those in the shops.  It is no wonder that this variety is most dominant in Japan, given the ease in growing and the incredible taste of the fruits.

リアちゃん Leah

 タイガの変顔。今日３回目のトイレ散歩で午後４時半頃に出かけたときの写真です。オヤツも無しにタダで写真を撮られるのが大嫌いなワンコなので、こうやって顔を左右に方向変えしながらカメラを避けます。耳が後ろに行っているので、絶対に協力しないぞという意志がうかがえます。

We went out for a quick walk, for the 3rd walk of the day, at 4:30p.m.  I caught Taiga's funny face, as she was trying hard to avoid the camera.  Without the incentive of treats, she is totally uncooperative.  With her ears fallen back, I can see she is determined.

しょうがないので、帰宅してから玄関ドアに括り付けて撮影。

So, after returning home, I tied her to the door to take better photos.

玄関前の食用菊の開花が近づいています。これは「もってのほか」。嬉しいことに、花の色が今年初めて間違いなくピンク色になりそうです。いつもなら、濃いめのピンク花で買った苗が２年目以降になると白っぽい花になるので、毎年買い足していました。なので今ある「もってのほか」は過去４年くらいに渡り買ってきた苗が宿根したものです。でも、これくらいの色なら、今年は買う必要ありません。写真が随分とボケていますが、夕方の薄暗くなりはじめたときにカメラがわざと明るく調整したのかも。

The chrysanthemums in front of the porch are getting close to flowering.  These are edible varieties but they are pretty enough to be ornamental.

こちらは黄色の花の「松風」。もってのほかよりも花柄が大きくて存在感があります。

食用菊を眺めながらニヤニヤしていたら、タイガが珍しく声を出したので前の道を見たら、ジャーマンピンシャーのリアちゃんが散歩から帰ってきたところでした。門にへばりついて私たちに「出てこい」の催促。

As I was looking at the flowers, Taiga got excited having sensed the approach of Leah, my neighbour's German Pinscher.  She is back from her walk in the park and wants me to come out.

門を開けたら飛びついてきました。

She is so excited to see me.

大興奮ですが、声を出さずに興奮。

She is silently excited (i.e. no uttering of voice).

タイガがリアママにおやつを催促している間も、私の方を見たまま。

おやつをもらったタイガと門の内側に戻っても、まだこちらを凝視して動こうとしません。何ともカワイイ❤

Even after Taiga and I got back inside the fence, Leah's eyes were locked on me.  I feel loved!

公園で At the park

 今日は朝から異常に暑い一日でした。公園ではキンモクセイの花が散り始めていました。

It was an unusually hot day throughout.  Flowers of the fragrant olive (Osmanthus) were already falling off.

陽だまり広場で会った初対面の柴犬。１歳のももちゃん。遠くから見ると顔が男の子のようで、よく他の飼い主さんたちにも間違われるそうです。

A new face - female Shiba Inu, one year old, named "Momo".  From a distance, Momo looked like a boy.  Her mom says that many people make the same mistake.

年齢の割には怖がらずにタイガを遊びに誘っています。タイガは年甲斐もなく背中の毛を逆立てて、尻尾もピン。

In spite of her age, she challenges Taiga for a play.  Taiga takes the invitation with her hair standing on the back, and her tail upright.

でも、ももちゃんに足を掛けられても怒ることなく相手をしていました。

Momo plays the dominant part and Taiga goes along with it.

ももちゃんの顔は、これぞ柴！という感じ。お稲荷さんを連想してしまいます。

Momo's face looks like that of a fox.

けやきの林へ向かう道は、ほんの少し黄葉が始まっているようです。写真では早朝の清々しい景色に見えますが、実際は暑かった。

The deciduous trees are starting to turn yellow.

珍しい子に会えました。

A very rare meeting - 

アメリカンコッカースパニエルだそうです。イギリス系の、いかにも猟犬の雰囲気のとは違って見えます。ただし、犬はトリミングのスタイル次第でがらっと外見が変わりうるのも事実です。

an American Cocker Spaniel.  He looks rather different from the English cousin.  However, dogs can look remarkably different depending on the style of trimming.

この子はボーダーの子犬で生後数か月だそうです。成長するとブルーマールのようになるのでしょうか。二人で４頭連れなので、私はてっきりプロのドッグウォーカーの人たちかと思っていましたが、全部家族だそうです。

This little one is a Border Collie, only several months old.  Will he grow up to become a blue merle type?  A young couple were walking with these 4 dogs and I thought that they were professional dog walkers - it turned out that these pooches were their family members.

かえりしな、脚のストレッチ運動をしているお爺さんがいて、そのすぐそばでカラスがじっと止まっていました。いつもこうやって寄って来るそうです。私がカメラを取り出したとたん、よそ者に驚いたのか向こうへ移動してしまいました。

An old man was stretching his legs and a crow was perched nearby.  Apparently, the crow comes to him every morning when the old man starts his exercise.  When I took out my camera, the bird hopped away.  Sorry!

朝散歩 Morning walk

 散歩に向かおうとしたら、家のすぐ近くで久しぶりに会った秋田犬の子。ノコちゃん、７歳。

Immediately after setting off, we met a female Akita Inu, after a very long absence.  Her name is Noko, 7 years old.  Her coat was trimmed during the hot weather.

挨拶が終わって落ち着いた頃に、

As they were getting comfortable,

向こうから初対面の子たちがやって来ました。

we saw new faces approaching.

大きい子は耳の形がパピヨン的ですが、れっきとした秋田犬だそうです。ブリーダー崩壊で保護された子。一時預かりで引き取られてまだ一週間ですが、とてもおとなしい男の子で、推定２歳。保護された当時の状態があまりに不衛生だったので毛はトリミングされていますが、本来はロンゲの子だそうです。体はまだ大きくなるそうで、最終的には「わさお」君のような姿になるということでした。

The larger one is a male Akita, a newly rescued individual from a breeder who went bust.  Having been in an unhygienic condition, his coat was trimmed but, when he is fully grown, he will be a long-coated Akita. 

タイガとも嬉しそうに挨拶していました。悲惨な状態だったにも拘わらず、明るい性格で物怖じしないのでたくさん友達を作れそうです。

For a dog only rescued a week ago, he is a very happy and friendly one.  I am sure he will be making lots of friends in his life.

その後ずっと歩いて桜台６丁目の川沿いで、初めて見る柴犬がやって来ました。まだ１歳の男の子だそうで、タイガのことが怖いけどちょっかい掛けてみたい複雑な心理状態のようです。

As we went further along the river, we met a new face, one-year old male Shiba Inu.  He seemed to want to play with Taiga but a bit scared.

He made a play bow gesture, but Taiga's hair on her back was a little standing.

肝試しのようです。

柴の行動ががあまりに曖昧なので、タイガが決着に出ました。

The Shiba was being too ambiguous in his intention so Taiga took a decisive action.

柴とタイガが楽しく騒いでいるのが不満だったようで、ガレージの中からワンコがずっと吠えていました。「俺の家の前で勝手に遊ぶな！」ということでしょうか。

The commotion caused a loud barking coming from behind the garage door.  Probably, the dog of the house did not like it that strangers were having a good time outside his house.

朝散歩 Morning walk

今朝も６時過ぎに公園に到着。徐々に朝の気温が下がってきています。

久しぶりに会ったソニーちゃん。保護されたビビりの子なので、最初は私の超小型カメラを警戒していました。

We arrived at the park just after 6 a.m. today again.  Although the weather is fine, the temperature is getting noticeably lower every morning.  

We met Sonny, a rescued timid female Shiba mix.  At first, she was weary of my tiny camera.

でも、シャッター音がしないので安心したようです。動画で撮っていたので音は無し。

Soon, she became less alert since there was no noise of the shutter - I was taking a video.

だんだんと警戒心が好奇心に代わってきたようです。

Her alertness gradually changed into curiosity.  

飼い主さん曰く、おやつ関係と勘違いしているのかも。それにしては耳が後ろに倒れている。

Her dad thought that Sonny was expecting a treat.  But her ears were flat and still not really relaxed.

最後は怪訝そうに見ていました。

I will come with a treat next time.

道を渡って城北中央公園に行くと、先日初めて会った豆柴のリカちゃんとばったり。１歳と３か月なので、相変わらずキャピキャピしています。

Later, we met Rika, a miniature Shiba Inu that we met several weeks ago for the first time.  As she is only one and 3 months old, she is still restless and excited to meet another dog.

誰に会っても自分が「カワイイ」扱いされて当然、と思っている子のようで、タイガに対してもしたい放題。

Since every person calls her 'kawaii' (cute), she has a bit of diva attitude.  Fortunately, Taiga is patient and lets her do whatever she likes.

無反応なタイガを諦めて私に注意を向けてきました。本当にカワイイ。

She got bored with Taiga and started to demand attention from me.  She really is devastatingly cute.
