朝散歩でムベとオリーブ発見 Morning Walk

 タイガが７歳になった２年前から、散歩の方角は朝も夕方もタイガまかせです。今朝は公園ではなく住宅街の散歩を選ぴました。開進第三中学の横の道で、黒柴のせとかちゃんに会いました。いつもは我が家の前の道で出くわすので、この方角での再会は珍しいです。

Taiga chose to walk through the residential area for this morning's walk, in stead of going to the park.  Since she reached 7 years old, I have been allowing her to choose the walking course.   After walking for more than 20 minutes, we met Setoka, a female black Shiba Inu.  Normally, we see her walking near my house, so this morning's meeting was a pleasant surprise.

本当はせとかちゃんは非常に可愛い子なのに、写真写りがイマイチです。

Setoka is a very pretty girl in the flesh, although she may not be photogenic.

とてもおとなしく、かつ慎重な性格なので、私には普通に近寄ってくれてもタイガに対してはちょっとビビりながら。タイガはせとかちゃんの飼い主さんに撫でられて大満足なので、せとかちゃんの挨拶は無視？表情がヘン顔なのか恍惚なのか.....

Setoka timidly approaches Taiga, but Taiga is satisfied enough to get rubs from Setoka's dad and shows little interest in her.

このあたりの丁目は不可解なところがあって、私が住んでいる桜台三丁目から歩き出して、気が付くと六丁目になります。その先を行くと五丁目になりますが、未だに四丁目がどのあたりなのか把握していません。元々、方向音痴なのでいつまでたっても頭の中がぐちゃぐちゃ。とにかく、五丁目を歩いていたら、何と、ムベが生っていました。しかも良い感じに色づいている。住宅街を歩くのは大抵夜なので、このムベの存在に気付いてもいませんでした。

When we came to an area that we normally walk at night, I saw a Mbe (Stauntonia hexaphylla) plant with fruits on it.  This plant itself is rare growing in an urban area, and to see the actual fruits is just amazing.  The fruit looks similar to Akebi but Mbe does not open its skin even when it is fully ripe.  Moreover, the fruit actually tastes delicious (so I am told), whereas there is hardly any taste in the Akebi fruit.

いままで、園芸サイトなどの写真を見るだけだったので、実物の実をこんな近くで見られるなんて感激です。

I have seen the plants in my neighbourhood, but I had never seen the fruits before.

さらに歩いて五丁目のあたり黄花コスモスがまだ咲いていました。

さらに行くと、今度はオリーブの実着きの木がありました。これはさすがに明るい時間帯の散歩でないと気づきません。よーくみると、同一業者が開発したと思われる統一性のある様式の家が数件ならんでいて、どの家にもオリーブの木が植わっていましたが、実が着いているのはこの家のだけでした。樹齢は同じでも、こんな差が出るとは。

Another new finding, thanks to walking in the daylight.  This olive tree in front of a private house had lots of fruits on it.  

Since this is a mature tree, there are lots of fruits, enough to make a bucketful of pickled olives.

再度、三丁目に戻って帰り道でみかけたルリマツリ。東京では良く育ちます。

とても綺麗な花で過去に育てたことがありますが、落ちた花がネトネトしているのでホウキで掃くとコンクリにくっついて面倒でした。

朝散歩 Morning Walk

 公園に向かおうと道に出たら、ちょうど近所のユキヤ君が通りすぎるところでした。

Just outside of our garden as we were headed for the park, we met Yukiya, my neighbour's male Pekingese.

ペキニーズの男の子で、ユキヤを知らない人はあまり表情豊かには見えないかもしれませんが、体全体で嬉しそうに気持ちを表して寄ってきてくれます。

His face may not seem very expressive of emotions, but his whole body says "happy to see you again" when he approaches me.

タイガはイマイチどうユキヤに接して良いのかわからない様子。

Taiga is not sure how to handle his enthusiasm.

公園に着くとタイガが直ぐに催したので、私が掃除をしている間に、勝手に向こうにいた日本スピッツの子に近寄って行きました。怖がりの女の子でビビっているので、タイガは無関心を装うことにしたようです。

When we arrived at the park, we met a new face, a 2-year old, female Japanese spitz. 

２歳の女の子だそうで、ということはタイミング的にコロナのロックダウンの頃にお迎えして他のワンコたちとの社交性を育む機会があまり無かったのかも。私に恐る恐る近づいたあと、タイガの方を向きましたが、タイガはすでに飼い主さん（男性）の方に関心を持ったようです。

She is a delicate and gentle girl, but a little nervous with strangers.  Since she is 2 years old, her puppyhood coincides with the lockdown due to Covid and she probably did not have enough opportunities to socialise.

耳をぺったんこにして挨拶に行きました。

By the time she plucked up her courage to greet Taiga, Taiga was more interested in meeting her dad.

四中横の草地へ移動すると、久しぶりに白柴のハク君と会えました。

We later met Haku, a male Shiba Inu, after a long absence.  He was on his way home.

挨拶しているうちにハクの気分が荒々しくなったので、タイガがちょっと警戒気味です。

He has grown into a very temperamental individual and as he greeted Taiga, he became rather aggressive.  Taiga looks on alert.

その状態で別れると、次回会ったときにタイガの記憶に影響があるかも知れないので、私が鎮めようとしたら、かえって猛獣のように変身。一旦沈めて、もう一度トライしても同じ結果になりました。以前、訓練士に数か月間預けられたこともありますが、たぶん、シーザー・ミランのような教えが必要。

I did not want Taiga to remember Haku as he was, since it might affect her impression of him next they met.  So, I tried to calm him down, but he turned into an angry beast in an instant.  A few years ago, Haku was sent to a trainer's for a few months, but his behaviour seems to be getting worse.  He probably needs a trainer like Cesar Millan who trains the owner too.

日向は暑いので木陰でオヤツタイム。清々しい気候で長い散歩を楽しみましたが、もう帰ろうとしたら、タイガはまだその気にならないよう。

It was very warm in the sun, so we had a cool break in the shade for Taiga's treat.  Taiga enjoyed the rest so much that she would not budge when I wanted to go home.

リードを引っ張るほど、向こうを向いてしまいました。

When I pulled harder, she turned away more.

まあ、大したワガママではないので、しばし付き合いました。

Well, she is not a problem pooch so I allowed it and sat down again.

もう少しいられると分かると、この嬉しそうな顔。

She looked so happy when she realised that we could stay longer.

帰り道、何度か座りこんで散歩を長引かせましたが、やっと家に着くと最後の抵抗。

On our way home, she sat down on the street several times as if to prolong the walk.  When we finally arrived outside of the gate, she would not come in.

私はもう暑くてフラフラだったので、無理に尻を押して中に入れました。

So I pushed her back to move up the steps.

パフペイストリーのホタテ貝 Puff Pastry Scallops

 ご近所から珍しいホタテの貝殻（九州、天草特産の緋扇貝）をいただいたので、それからの発想でホタテのパイを作りました。

My neighbour gave me beautiful scallop shells, from Amakusa in Kyushu, with all natural colours.  Inspired by these, I made puff pastry scallops.

公園で At the park

 四中横の草地では、今年もアケビが熟してきました。既に何個か地面に落ちて腐っていました。

Akebia plant in the park.  Ripe fruits are already dropping off.

珍しい白実のゴヨウアケビ（葉っぱが５枚）。果皮は上品なクリーム色です。他の品種が無くてもこれ１本で実が生るようです。

This plant is a very rare variety with 5 leaves and white fruits.  Moreover, it is self-pollinating, which is very unusual.

カリンも黄色くなって自然落果が始まっています。日当たりも風通しもバツグンなので、害虫の心配ゼロ、毎年鈴なりです。これで利用価値があれば最高なのに。

The quince fruits are also ripe and have started dropping.  Growing in the open air with full sun and wind, the trees are free of any diseases.

夏みかんも色づき始めています。

This citrus tree produces bitter summer oranges and the fruits are starting to turn yellow.  It is very cold-hardy and requires little care.

カリンなどを眺めていたら、道の向こうの草地からタイガの名を呼ぶ声が聞こえてきました。近所のゴロウと、

As I was watching the fruit trees, someone was calling Taiga's name from the field across the road, so we went to join them.

スバル君です。

スバル君は城北公園の遥か向こう側に住んでいるのですが、毎日かなりの距離を歩くようです。タイガもつい２年前までは同じでした。桜台3丁目の自宅から、環七の交差点を渡り、さらに向こうの地下鉄小竹向原駅まで行って、その後右折して江古田駅まで行ってからやっと帰らせてもらえました。おかげで江古田の武蔵野音楽大学の付近に詳しくなりました（それまで音大が江古田にあることさえ知りませんでした）。

Subaru is still a young individual with lots of energy and his mom has to walk with him for hours every day.  Only until about 2 years ago, Taiga used to walk extremely long distances in the morning and evening, so I know how Subaru's mom feels.

スバル君はまだまだ若いので、飼い主さんはこれからもたっぷり散歩に付き合わされるでしょう。

朝散歩 Morning Walk

 公園へ向かう道で、可愛い子に出会いました。ちいーっちゃい女の子で、名前はツブちゃん。まんまです。

On our way to the park, we met a tiny girl, with a name "Tsubu" which means a "grain".

タイガがでかいので、ちょっと引いています。

She is taken aback by Taiga's size.

このウルウル眼。着ている服がりりしいので、男の子かと勘違いしてしまいました。

Her eyes!  Who can resist this look?

不安で飼い主さんの後へ回ります。

Feeling anxious, she goes behind her mom.

私のほうへ寄ってきてくれました。カメラ目線になったのに、私のコンデジではちゃんと可愛さを捉えていない。

She came close to me and looked into the camera - my cheap compact camera could not capture her lovely face.

タイガが少しだけ近づけました。

Ultimately, Taiga managed to get closer a little.

さらに歩いていると、近所のマーク君とばったり。タイガはマー君が好き過ぎて大興奮で駆け付けます。

We walked on and met Mark, my neighbour's Jack Russell Terrier, and Taiga's boy fried.  Taiga was far too excited as she approached Mark, 

タイガが興奮し過ぎなので、マー君が「ワンッ」とたしなめた後さっと離れていきました。

so, Mark told her off and went away.

タイガが少し落ち着いたので、マー君に近づけました。

As Taiga calmed down, Mark allowed her to approach him.
