公園で At the park

 四中横の草地では、今年もアケビが熟してきました。既に何個か地面に落ちて腐っていました。

Akebia plant in the park.  Ripe fruits are already dropping off.

珍しい白実のゴヨウアケビ（葉っぱが５枚）。果皮は上品なクリーム色です。他の品種が無くてもこれ１本で実が生るようです。

This plant is a very rare variety with 5 leaves and white fruits.  Moreover, it is self-pollinating, which is very unusual.

カリンも黄色くなって自然落果が始まっています。日当たりも風通しもバツグンなので、害虫の心配ゼロ、毎年鈴なりです。これで利用価値があれば最高なのに。

The quince fruits are also ripe and have started dropping.  Growing in the open air with full sun and wind, the trees are free of any diseases.

夏みかんも色づき始めています。

This citrus tree produces bitter summer oranges and the fruits are starting to turn yellow.  It is very cold-hardy and requires little care.

カリンなどを眺めていたら、道の向こうの草地からタイガの名を呼ぶ声が聞こえてきました。近所のゴロウと、

As I was watching the fruit trees, someone was calling Taiga's name from the field across the road, so we went to join them.

スバル君です。

スバル君は城北公園の遥か向こう側に住んでいるのですが、毎日かなりの距離を歩くようです。タイガもつい２年前までは同じでした。桜台3丁目の自宅から、環七の交差点を渡り、さらに向こうの地下鉄小竹向原駅まで行って、その後右折して江古田駅まで行ってからやっと帰らせてもらえました。おかげで江古田の武蔵野音楽大学の付近に詳しくなりました（それまで音大が江古田にあることさえ知りませんでした）。

Subaru is still a young individual with lots of energy and his mom has to walk with him for hours every day.  Only until about 2 years ago, Taiga used to walk extremely long distances in the morning and evening, so I know how Subaru's mom feels.

スバル君はまだまだ若いので、飼い主さんはこれからもたっぷり散歩に付き合わされるでしょう。

朝散歩 Morning Walk

 公園へ向かう道で、可愛い子に出会いました。ちいーっちゃい女の子で、名前はツブちゃん。まんまです。

On our way to the park, we met a tiny girl, with a name "Tsubu" which means a "grain".

タイガがでかいので、ちょっと引いています。

She is taken aback by Taiga's size.

このウルウル眼。着ている服がりりしいので、男の子かと勘違いしてしまいました。

Her eyes!  Who can resist this look?

不安で飼い主さんの後へ回ります。

Feeling anxious, she goes behind her mom.

私のほうへ寄ってきてくれました。カメラ目線になったのに、私のコンデジではちゃんと可愛さを捉えていない。

She came close to me and looked into the camera - my cheap compact camera could not capture her lovely face.

タイガが少しだけ近づけました。

Ultimately, Taiga managed to get closer a little.

さらに歩いていると、近所のマーク君とばったり。タイガはマー君が好き過ぎて大興奮で駆け付けます。

We walked on and met Mark, my neighbour's Jack Russell Terrier, and Taiga's boy fried.  Taiga was far too excited as she approached Mark, 

タイガが興奮し過ぎなので、マー君が「ワンッ」とたしなめた後さっと離れていきました。

so, Mark told her off and went away.

タイガが少し落ち着いたので、マー君に近づけました。

As Taiga calmed down, Mark allowed her to approach him.

チャチャちゃん Shiba friend

 公園散歩から帰って庭の植物を見ていたら、柴犬のチャチャちゃんが通りかかりました。最後に合ったのはいつか思い出せないほど久しぶりです。写真うつりがイマイチですが、実際は何とも言えない美犬です。さらに、豆柴の部類に入るほど小柄なので2倍可愛いです。

When we came home from the park, Chacha, a female Shiba Inu came along on her morning walk.  It has been such a long time that I cannot remember the last time we met.  She is a very pretty Shiba and the photos I took do not justify her looks. 

ラズベリー Raspberry

 ラズベリーのジョーン・スクワイアが毎日細々と熟しています。固まって熟していると、そこだけ明りがついたようで綺麗です。

Raspberry 'Joan Squire' is continuing to ripen.  A cluster like this looks like little lanterns.

Joan Squire's fruits are large but the flowers are inconspicuous.

今日味見した中で、これが一番美味しかった。甘味、酸味ともに濃厚で秋果ならではの食味。

Of all the berries I ate today, this one was the best - strong sweetness matched by tart taste.

タイガはオヤツとお肉にしか興味なし。

Taiga is only interested in treats and meat.

地植えにした大実柚子に、２年前にモロを、去年はミネオラを、それぞれ２か所ずつ高接ぎしました。今年はこれらの各枝に１個ずつ実が生っています。

I grafted 2 twigs each of Moro and Mineora on Yuzu over the last 2 years.  Now they are starting to fruit.

で、これが大実柚子苗で実は２個。地元JAで30cmほどの挿し木苗が実着きで売られていたのを育てたものです。柑橘類のジャムは柚子が一番好きなので、これからもっと沢山生って欲しいです。

And, this is the Yuzu plant, barely 1 meter tall as yet.  Yuzu has so many uses - for savoury and sweets, as well as for fragrant bath.

公園で At the park

 近所のホンコンエンシス「月光」の実が色づき始めています。

My neighbour's dogwood tree, a variety called "Gekko", with its berries, starting to ripen.

これがライチの木なら、どんなに良かったことか。

I wish it were a lychee tree.

今日は天気が良くて、公園に到着する頃にはタイガの喉が渇いたようでした。

It being a sunny day with no wind, we were getting hot and bothered by the time we reached the park.

そこで林の中の水飲み場で水分補給させてから上のほうへ移動することに。

So, Taiga had a refreshing drink of cold water in the woods.

中間にある「窪地」とワンコ仲間で呼んでいる広場へ上ると、抜けるような青空を背景に木々が美しい。

The trees against the background of the blue sky were so beautiful.

向こうに見える古代家の林を通って、タイガの気に入りの草地へ向います。

We walked through the woods where the reconstructed ancient dwelling was.

小学校の教科書に出て来た「竪穴住居」を想像させるような家です。

道を渡って目的の草地。コナラの大木の木陰にはいってホッとします。

Arriving at the field where Taiga is used to getting a treat, we sat down under the ancient tree.

コナラの根本でオヤツ。

心地よい木陰なのでタイガが「帰ろう」の合図にのってこない。

Taiga found it so comfortable in this spot that she would not move when I wanted to go home.

急にタイガの注意が後方に向かいました。

Suddenly, her attention was diverted.

白柴が楽しそうに走り回っています。

タイガは９歳になった今も他所のワンコが大好きなので近づこうとしましたが、相手は火がついたように吠え始めました。

Since Taiga loves meeting other dogs, we approached them but the Shiba started to bark as if she had caught a fire.

2歳の女の子だそうですが、ギャン吠えしている間も飼い主さんがナデナデしてなだめている。それが全くの逆効果だと説明するのも暑くて疲れるのでやめておきました。

A 2-year old female Shiba Inu, she has not been socialised at all.  Worse, all the time the dog was barking, her owner kept stroking and comforting her.  As I was too hot and bothered to explain to her that it was exactly the wrong thing to do, we left.

その後は野球場の横を通って帰り道へ。

On our way out of the park we passed by the baseball field, where grownups were practising (normally, it is school kids).

野球の練習をしている様子を見ながら通り過ぎたのですが、２人のバッターが続けて場外ホームランを出したのにはびっくり。大人の野球は迫力がある。

帰り道。川沿いのマンションの生垣が綺麗でした。赤要の秋の新芽が緑に映えています。

The hedgerow with autumn new leaves.  In the spring, the whole hedgerow gets covered with red new leaves which will eventually turn green.

春は一斉に新芽で覆われるので、生垣全体が真っ赤になる時期があります。
