公園で At the park

 大山高校横の草地の築山でタイガにオヤツを上げていたら、ちょうどヤマボウシの木を見下ろせる位置でした。まだ咲いているとは。

Cornus kousa trees still in bloom.  They are indigenous trees and they come into season one month after the Cornus florida.  Cornus florida was sent to Japan from the US in 1915, as a response to the cherry trees that were gifted to the US in 1912 as a mark of friendship.

さすがに花びら（正確にはガク）が変色し始めていましたが。外来種のハナミズキよりも約ひと月遅れで咲きます。

柿の木広場に移動。中央にある大木の根本でタイガが臭い嗅ぎを始めました。先客が残した臭いです。まるで残された伝言を読み取ろうとしているかのよう。

オヤツを催促されないよう、私はわざとタイガと目を合わせないようにしているのですが、タイガは私の前へやって来て目ヂカラでアピール。

In the park, I avoid meeting Taiga's eyes since she has only one thing in mind - treats.

勝手にベンチへ向います。

The word 'bench' has become synonymous with 'treat' recently, and she heads towards the bench.

散歩とオヤツ・ご飯が命のワンコです。

Thanks to her, I am able to maintain my health as well as a happy state of mind, so I cannot complain.

朝・夕の長時間散歩のおかげで私は健康を保っているので文句言えません。

ブラックベリー Blackberries

 トリプルクラウンの花がやっと咲き始めました。ブラックベリーやラズベリーは雨でもちゃんと受粉するので安心して見ていられます。

'Triple Crown' starting to flower.  This is a large-fruit variety.

花びらは普通は白ですが、今年はこのように↓ピンクっぽい花もあります。

オセージは開花が終わり、幼果が順調に育っています。うちに来て数年になりますが、地植えにしても毎年ケインが１本ずつしか出てこないのが不思議です。

'Osage' flowers are all gone and now young fruits are growing.  The fruits are sweet and delicious.

こちらはナバホ。去年の夏に苗が届いたとき、太めのケインが地上10センチ位のところで切られていて枝の無い状態でしたが、その後１本だけ芽が伸びて20センチ位で越冬しました。そのケインが今年の春にさらに延長されて、今は２個だけ実が着いています。

First year for my 'Navaho'.  The fruits taste similar to those of Osage - so similar that I wouldn't be able to tell the difference in a blind test.

公園で At the park

 今日は朝からぐずついた天気で、公園は犬散歩の人の姿が少なかったです。公園入口の広場で、久しぶりに極小柴の小雪ちゃんに会えました。一緒に飼われているお姉ちゃんの小夏ちゃんは後から来るとのことでした。

Overcast morning with occasional rain.  When we arrived at the park, we met Koyuki, a female super-small Shiba Inu.  Her big sister, Konatsu, will be coming to the park later.

生後4か月で初めて会ったときは両手に入るくらい小さかったです。おとなになった今でも極小サイズですが。

When I first saw her at 4-month old, she was so tiny that I could have held her in the palm of my hands.  Even as a grownup, she is tiny.

野球場横のベンチを見た途端、タイガが足を止めました。最近の、ベンチ＝オヤツの発想のようです。それなら、まずは写真を撮ってから。

As we were passing by the baseball field, Taiga saw the bench and decided it was the time for a treat.  I asked her to pose for the camera before the treat.

カメラ嫌いのタイガは、急にポリポリ始めました。

She suddenly started to scratch herself.

この緊張感のない顔。

As if she does not know what I wanted.

そんなに痒いのならシャンプーしてやりたいところですが、今日は雨が降ったり止んだりなので日が悪いです。

恰好良いポーズは諦めてベンチに腰掛けたとたん、目つきが変わりました。

The moment I sat on the bench, she stopped scratching and sat up.

オヤツを思って興奮するとヨダレが飛び出す犬。

She's got her saliva all over the place.

雨がポツポツきて地面に染み込んでいます。今日はドッグランへ寄らずに帰ります。

It started to rain again, so we decided to head home without going to the dog park.

帰り道、あとから出かけてきた小夏ちゃんにばったり。やはりミニ柴ですが極小とまではいきません。

On our way out of the park, we saw Konatsu, Koyuki's big sister.

公園で At the park

 最近、土曜日の朝はドッグランを利用するようになりました。ラン手前の花壇は今日も綺麗な花で一杯。ボランティアで管理している人に感謝です。

After it rained all day yesterday, it was a very warm and humid morning.  

ランに入ると仲良しのホップ君がいました。

When we went into the dog park, a male French Bulldog, Hop, came to greet us.

ホップ君はカメラ嫌いですが、何とか目線をキャッチできました。

Hop does not like cameras, but he allowed me to take a photo.

ドーベルマンの白夜がママに大声で叱られていました。

Byakuya, a male Doberman, was being scolded by his mom.

その理由は、他所のワンコのボールを咥えて返さないからでした。口の中からもぎ取ろうとしてもアゴの力が半端でなく、こじ開けられないでいるうちに逃げ出すの繰り返しです。

The reason was because he got hold of someone else's toy in his mouth and would not let it go, however hard his mom tried to pull it out.

「白夜！」と呼んだら、何ともマヌケな表情でこちらにやって来ました。

I called out and he came towards me with a goofy face due to the toy in his mouth.

私が口に手を入れようとしないので

He knows I wouldn't bother him so he stays with me.

安心して傍にいました。砂と唾液まみれのボール、ばっちそうで私は放置。

Looking at the toy covered with soil and saliva, would I ever bother him?

初めて見る子が寄ってきました。ぱっと見、ブリュッセルグリフォンかと思いましたが、トイプードルとパグのミックスだそうです。生後11か月の女の子。

A new face, a female Toy Poodle-Pug mix, 11 months old.

タイガが飼い主さんに甘えているので、不満げな顔をしています。

As Taiga was snuggling up to her parents, she looked unhappy.

この↓表情。「ねえ、タイガを止めてよ」と訴えているようです。この直後、ガマンの限界だったのか、タイガにガウりました。

黒柴のラムネちゃんがランに到着。タイガとの挨拶もそこそこに、私に飛びついてきたのでカメラがラムネちゃんのヨダレでベトベトになりました。

Lamune, a female Black Shiba Inu, arrives and says 'hello' to Taiga.

ランからの帰り、お肉屋さん横の草地を通るとシロツメクサの花の甘い香りで一杯です。

After the dog park, the field we passed through was covered with white clovers with their flowers' sweet fragrance.

川沿いの小道を歩いていると、柴犬のキリュウ（輝龍）がリードを引っ張ってゼイゼイ言いながらタイガに近づいてきました。

Kiryu, a male Shiba Inu, came rushing towards Taiga.  He likes female dogs no matter how old or young - Kiryu is 1 year old, whereas Taiga is 8 yars old.

キリュウは相手が女の子であれば年齢不問。タイガのことも大好きです。

He says 'hello' to Taiga, but he is too eager.

かまってほしくてしょがない様子です。タイガの背中に前足を掛けようとしたので、怒られてしまいました。

As he tried to put his legs on Taiga's back, he gold told off by her.

それでもひるまずアピールを続けます。

It didn't put him off, though.

キリュウは頭部が大きくて、顔の幅は肩や腰の幅より広いので、狭い隙間でも猫のように顔が通れば体も通るはずです。

さらに行くと、また初めて見る子が来ました。コイケルホンディエの男の子で、生後9か月のビスケット君。この公園でみかけたことのあるコイケルは他に1頭しか思い当たりません。

A new face: 9-month old, male Kooikerhondie, named ’Biscuit'  I have only seen one other Kooikerhondie in this park.  This is a very rare breed in Japan.

タイガが飼い主さん母娘に可愛がってもらっている間嫉妬もせずに、暑いので座り込んで待っていました。

While Taiga was getting all the attention from his mom and big sister, he waited patiently and sat down on the cool pavement.

茶色と白が鮮明な綺麗なコートです。

He has a beautiful coat with vivid red and white.
