公園で At the park

 柿の木広場に着くと、人影がゼロ。いままで雨さえ降っていなければ近隣の複数の保育園が毎日利用していたのに。そこで、タイガをこっそり放ちました。

The Persimmon Park was devoid of people when we arrived.  Normally, nearby kindergartens use this park so long as it is not raining, and toddlers are all over the place.

子供達がいない理由はこれ↓のようです。

This must be the reason.

蜂の警告です（停まっているのは蛾）。

A wasp warning.

甘百目の木に巣箱が掛かっていました。

I noticed a box attached to the trunk of a persimmon tree.

入口が汚れているので、使われたことがあるようです。

A birdhouse - judging by the soil just below the entrance, it has been used?

タイガはそんなことはどうでも良く、用足しをして爽快。

Taiga is not interested in any of the above - just relieved herself and feeling good,

leaving me (her servant) to clean up the mess behind.

Off she goes.

地面に転がっていたボールを投げてやりました。

I found a toy among the grass and tossed it to her.

でも、８歳ともなると直ぐに飽きるのか疲れるのか、あっさりと終わり。ベンチの前へ私を誘導します。以前、タイガがオヤツを催促するたびに、「ベンチに座ってから」と言い聞かせていたので、今では「ベンチ」という言葉イコール「オヤツ」と理解しているようです。

She soon got bored and led me to the bench.  In the past, every time she asked for a treat, I told her 'Wait until I sit on the bench'.  Now she equates the word 'bench' with 'treat'.

私がベンチに腰掛けたとたん、にじり寄ってきて鼻先でバッグを突きます。

The moment I sat down, she crept up to me like an eager servant.

How can I resist this face?

オヤツの後は中央公園へ移動。突き当りの林に柴犬のトラがいるのが見えました。

We moved to the main part of Johoku Park, where we saw Tora in the distance.

トラです。

Tora, male Shiba Inu, who is not socialised but is getting used to Taiga slowly.

タイガが近寄ってくることに少しずつ慣れてきました。

でも、タイガがトラのママに近づこうとしたとたん、ガウりました。

However, the moment Taiga tried to greet his mom, Tora growled.

柿の開花など Persimmon flowers etc

 柿の太秋が咲き始めました。苗を買ってきた初年度は１個だけ蕾が出てそれが収穫まで行ったのに、それ以降ろくに蕾も出ず、かと言って地植えにしたのに樹高がたいして伸びるわけでもなく２年が経ちました。今年は７個の蕾が出たので１個くらいは収穫できるのでは、と期待しています。

Persimmon, a sweet variety called 'Taishu' - only 7 flowers this year, but better than ever.

This flower has already passed its peak - hopefully, it self-pollinated.

ラズベリーのジョーン・スクワイアの花は、いつ咲いたのか気づかないくらい目立たないです。これ↓は、昨日咲いていたところを捉えたものです。

Raspberry 'Joan Squire' flowers are inconspicuous and I rarely notice them.

こちら↓は今朝の雨の中。ケインが華奢なので、あまり大きな房になると実の重みであっけなく折れます。

イチジクのビオレッタの夏果が育っています。もう何年も植え替えしていないので豊産性ではなくなりました。

公園で At the park

 公園の売店がある広場の横でタイガがまたサラダバーを見つけて足止めです。

Taiga is absorbed with the salad bar again.

売店広場でオヤツタイムをしたあと、また歩き出そうとしたらタイガが踏ん張って動こうとしません。もうオヤツを食べて、その証拠にタイガのヨダレも残しているのですが。

After the salad bar, Taiga got a treat in the nearby food court.  However, she wasn't satisfied with the amount she got and refused to move.  The stains on the bricks are from her saliva when she was eating the treat.

タイガは８歳になったので人間で言えば50代後半に突入しているのでは？人間ならだんだん食が細ってくるのにワンコは胃が縮むということは無いのでしょうか。

My stomach got smaller as I got older but, apparently, that does not apply to Taiga who is now 8 years old.

下のほうへ降りる途中の林に水たまりのような「池」があります。ここは毎年、初夏にはカエルが集まってきて繁殖場となりますが、今はまだ姿が見えません。そのかわり、カモのつがいらしいのが居ました。

When we went down towards the lower fields, we passed by a pond.  In early summer, this pond gets filled with amorous frogs every year.  It is yet too early for that and the pond was very quiet.  So quiet that two ducks were having a morning nap in the pond.

昼寝しています。人間に邪魔される心配がないのか、こちらをチラっと見たあとはまた瞼を閉じました。甲斐犬は猟犬なのですが。。。

They must be used to humans staring at them, for they did not budge.  If they knew that the Kaiken was a hunting dog....

池の反対側に回ってもう一枚。頭部の模様は同じですが背中の色が違うので、多分オスとメスでしょう。

They are probably a pair of the same variety - the pattern on the head is the same but the colouring on the back is different.

古代家のある林を通って下の出口の草地へ向います。

出口の草地でタイガが突然腹ばいになりました。日差しは強めですが、草は冷たくて気持ち良いのでしょう。

When we were about to leave the park, Taiga suddenly prostrated herself.  The sun was warm but the grass was nice and cool and she was enjoying it.

「帰ろ」と促しても動こうとしません。

She kept ignoring me when I said 'Let's go home'.

四中横の草地まで来ると、近所のマーク君（ジャックラッセルテリア）とゴロウ（ラブミックス）がいて、ちょうど帰るところでした。

At last, Taiga got to her feet and we saw my neighbours' dogs - Mark, Jack Russel Terrier, and Goro, a Lab mix.

そこへ、初めて見る小さな、小さなヨークシャーテリアが来ました。体重はたったの1.5kgの女の子で、1歳になったばかりだそうです。名前は「ツブ」ちゃん。

There came a new face: a tiny Yorkshire Terrier.  She weighs only 1.5kg and her name is Tsubu (meaning a 'grain').

こんなに小さくても臆病な性格ではなく、ちゃんとワンコとの挨拶ができます。まずはタイガと。

She may be tiny, but she is not too scared to greet strangers.  Saying 'hello' to Taiga,

つづいてゴロウと。

to Goro,

そしてマー君。

and then to Mark.

マー君とは一瞬キスもしました。

They even kissed each other momentarily.

私の左手との比較。両手を広げれば入りそうなほど小さいです。

Her head looks so small against my left hand.

公園で At the park

 今朝は曇り空ながら時々にわか雨の予報だったせいか、公園は閑散としていました。築山の西洋トチノキの木陰で一休み。タイガがベンチに乗って横に座ったので、アップで写真を撮りました。

なかなかカメラのほうを向いてくれません。横顔はちょっと子犬の頃を思い出させる表情になりました。もう８歳ですが。

A cloudy morning, and the weather forecast was that we could have sudden showers from time to time.  So, there were hardly any people when we arrived at the park.  We sat on the bench under the horse chestnut tree.

私のパウチを見つめてオヤツの催促です。

I was loving every second, feeling how lucky I was to be relaxing with my dog.  However, Taiga was only interested in the treat - she kept staring at my bag.

だんだんと絵になる表情になってきたと思ったとたん、

After a while, she was beginning to look picture worthy,

結構まぬけ顔になってしまいました。

only to give me a goofy face.

道の向こう側の草地で、ソメイヨシノにまぎれて１本だけある正体不明の桜の木。毎年サクランボが鈴なりになります。花はソメイヨシノに似ていても、開花時期が僅かに遅いです。

Across the road in another field, among the normal cherry trees (Somei-Yoshino), there is one that flowers like Somei-Yoshino but produces a heavy crop of cherries every year.  The cherries become black when ripe and they are very tasty, though small in size.

真っ黒に熟すと美味しいです。

これ↓は傍に植わっているソメイヨシノ。実の着き方が全然違います。

This is the normal Somei-Yoshino and the difference is quite obvious.

私がサクランボに見入っているあいだ、タイガが退屈そうにしていました。

While I was observing the cherry trees, Taiga was getting bored.

ならば写真のモデルにでもなれ、と注目の木の前に立たせました。

So, I gave her the job of modelling in front of the mutant cherry tree.

が、突然リードを咥えて暴走し始めました。

She had other ideas and, suddenly, she picked up the leash and started running like mad.

私を真ん中に、円を描くように何度もグルグルと走り回ります。

She ran about encircling me like a mad dog.

こんなの↓が狂ったように走り回っていたら、他所の人たちが怖がりそう。たまたま人のいないときでラッキーでした。

Good job there was no-one else in the field.  Strangers would have been scared to see a face like this.  Indeed, her bindle body alone could scare strangers.

ヘーゼルナッツケーキ Hazelnut Cake
