エビネ蘭 Ebine Orchids

 エビネ蘭の季節になりました。うちには３種類しかありませんが、どれも健康そうで安心です。エビネは病気になりやすい植物だそうで、元気で綺麗なうちに楽しんでおきます。

これは地エビネの一種で決して高級品種ではありませんが、毎年とても綺麗な花を咲かせます。地植えでも平気なうえ、毎年花茎が増えています。

Ebine orchids have started to flower.  This one belongs to the very common Ebine group, but I find this so attractive.  It is very tough and thrives in the ground and does not require special soil or plant pots.

こちらはコオズ系のニオイエビネ。香は何とも言えない良い香。古風な香水を思わせます。数年前にエビネ専門の農場から取り寄せました。

This one has a very strong perfume.  The fragrance reminds me of an old-fashioned perfume that my mother's generation used to wear.

これもニオイエビネですが香は極めて繊細で、鼻を近づけてやっと分かる程度。対して、上のコオズ系のは近くにいるだけで香が漂ってきます。

This one also has a fragrance but much more subtle.  The flower is straight forward yellow and quite large for Ebine.

花は素芯で大柄。どうしてもひいき目で見てしまうのですが、高級感ある株です。（そう言っている割には、柑橘苗の新芽を摘んでいたのが落下して引っ掛かっているのに気づかず写真を撮ってしまいました。）この株はオクで落札したもの。

ハマナスのハンザの蕾。ハンザの香が大好きなのでとても楽しみです。大株に育ててローズヒップの利用を目指します。

Rosa rugosa 'Hansa' will be coming into season soon.  I love the scent of this variety.

いま、うちはブルーのネットで囲まれています。屋根の峰板（？）の板金がらみの補修が必要になっていました。屋根の天辺のことなので自分では気づかずにいたのですが、斜め後ろの新築工事で下見に屋根に上がった板金の専門家「親方」が、うちの屋根の異変に気付いたのです。うちの屋根に上がってスマホで撮った写真を見せてもらったら、性質的に必須の工事なので、どうせやるならこれから未だそのご近所の家で仕事をする業者のほうが安心、と思って契約しました。なお、工事が済んだら向こう５年間の保証付きで、年に１度、その親方がうちの屋根に上がって状況を確認するそうです。

10年前に外壁塗装の工事をしたとき、タイガは生後半年くらい、うちに来て３か月足らずでしたが、今はもうすぐ10歳になるおばあちゃん犬。時の経過を痛感させられます。

My house is surrounded by blue nets with scaffolding, for a repair work on the roof.  Taiga had been with me for less than 3 months (at 5 months old), when I had the outer walls and roof repainted.  She will be 10 years old soon.  How time flies.

足場の設置は昨日の１日で済んで、実際の屋根の作業は明日から数日かけて行われます。昨日は夜の間じゅう強風が吹いたので、ネットの音がうるさくてなかなか寝つけませんでした。

The scaffolding was built yesterday, and the roof work will start tomorrow to be completed in about 5 days.

朝散歩 Morning Walk

 朝散歩に出かけるのを待たされたタイガは、私の朝食・シャワーが終わって階段の下から呼んでもすぐには降りてこない。しょうがないのでオヤツで釣って出かけました。

Having been made to wait for me to get ready after my breakfast and shower, Taiga was taking time to come downstairs when I called her.

公園へ向かう道の途中にある民家のモッコウバラが満開。

On our way to the park, there was a house with the fence covered with rose flowers.

これで香があればなお良いのですが。

It is a shame that this variety has no scent at all.

公園手前の草地で会った柴の子犬。生後６か月の女の子で、名前は「メンチ」。聞き間違いかと思って聞き直したら、「メンチカツのメンチ」と言われました。

We met a new face when we arrived at the park.  A 6-month old Shiba puppy called Menchi.

タイガと遊びたそうですが、タイガはおこちゃまのエネルギーには反応しなくなりました。自分が子犬だったころは相手の迷惑もかまわずに「遊んで」を要求していたくせに。

She was fearless and tried to get Taiga to play with her.  Taiga no longer shows any interest in puppies, even though she was just like this puppy when she was young.

タイガは幼い子に臭い嗅ぎされても怒りません。

Taiga does not mind anyone taking a sniff at her, even a puppy.

いつもの林の中を歩いていたら、公園整備のクルマが通りました。おもちゃのような小さいトラックで、運転してみたくなります。

公園の上の広場ではノムラモミジの赤い葉っぱが展開中。その根元にはハナニラが咲いていて、何ともほのぼのした景色です。そんな中でタイガはカメラに向かって用足し。

We went up to the higher ground - my favourite part of the park.  It is always deserted and I feel we have the whole place to ourselves.

この草地はいつ来ても人気が少ないので貸し切り気分。

道路に面した八重桜の関山が満開。

花びらの何ともいえない濃淡。

Beautiful variation in the colour.

個人的にはソメイヨシノよりもこの関山が好きです。

I love this variety more than the better-known "Somei-Yoshino".

 エビとベビーホタテをすり身にして、イワシで巻いた地中海風料理。

朝散歩 Morning Walk

 今日の東京の最高気温は23℃もあったそうですが、雨あがりということもあって朝から生ぬるい暖かさでした。公園は新緑が綺麗です。

It rained through the night but, by the time we set out for the park, the sun was out.  The air was humid and warm like an early summer day.  The deciduous trees are getting greener with every rain.

一旦は通り過ぎたフレンチブルドッグの子が飼い主さんをグイグイ引っ張ってこちらに戻ってきました。生後11か月の女の子で名前は「ゆば」ちゃん。ワンコよりも人が大好きだそうです。

A French Bulldog, who had walked passed us once, came back by pulling her owner with all her strength.  An 11-months old girl, named "Yuba", who likes people rather than other dogs.

短いスムースコートのワンコにスリスリされると、体の暖かさが直に伝わってきます。対して、タイガのようにダブルコートの子は、触れた手のひらに冷たい感触。

All the French Bulldogs that I meet are so friendly and affectionate.

リンゴの紅玉が咲き始めました。去年のシンクイムシの食害が残っているので、実は生らないと思いますが念のため梵天で公園の姫リンゴの花から花粉を採取してきました。

One of my apple trees has started flowering.  This is an old variety, introduced from the US more than 100 years ago.  The fruit is small and too sour to be eaten as is, so this variety is popular as a cooking apple.

朝散歩 Morning Walk

 久しぶりに早朝から晴天の一日でした。以前は畑だったところが、相続が起きて今は公園として一般に提供されている草地ではダイコンの花が満開なので入ってみました。数年前まではお年寄りの夫婦がいろんな作物を育てていて広いキウイ棚もあったのに、人の存在ははかないものです。

For the first time in days, we had a blue sky starting from early morning.  The field newly opened to the public was looking vibrant with fresh grass and flowers.  This used to be a large vegetable farm until a few years ago, owned by an old couple who have since passed away.

これは遅咲き八重の花桃のようです。濃いピンクが綺麗。

タイガは花より団子で、サラダバーに夢中。フキ畑のあったところは、これからフキがビュンビュン伸びてきそう。

Taiga is not interested in pretty flowers and too absorbed with the salad bar.

道を渡って、以前よく歩いた屋敷林に入ってみました。さっきの元畑と同じ所有者のものだったのですが、この部分はいち早く公園用にされていたところです。家は今は取り壊され、うっそうとした孟宗林もなくなり、現在、大型マンションの建設中。今も屋敷林として残っているのは猫の額程度の林です。

古木を背景に、今年も和製のニワトコが蕾をつけています。その後ろの竹林がなくなって青空がのぞいています。

We crossed the road and reached another patch of woods.  This used to be a part of vast woodland with an ancient farm house, owned by the same couple mentioned above.  After the couple were gone, most of the land has been sold and now a huge apartment block is being built.  Only a fraction of what used to be a heavily wooded place has been kept for public use.  Behind the tall tree in the picture used to be a bamboo woodland and the old house.  Now you can see the sky through the scant woods.

シャガが咲き始めています。所有者のおじいさんが生きていたとき、一緒に花を眺めたのを思い出しました。

The fringed iris is in season.  The old man and I once admired these flowers when he was still in good health.

タイガは勝手に先へ行って草を探していました。

久しぶりに茂呂山公園へ行ってみようと道を渡ったら、ちょうど甲斐犬のヒナとセナがやってきました。タイガは嬉しさのあまり小躍りしながら近づいていきます。ヒナはとても律儀な性格で、子犬のころからの先輩であるタイガに対して耳をぺたんこにして近づいてきます。妹分のセナは、別にタイガに遊んでもらったわけではないので全然別の態度。タイガは、自分が赤ちゃんだったときに毎朝遊んでくれたジャックラッセルのパッチに合うと、大きな体で地面を這いつくばるようにして挨拶に行きますが、その様はまるで時代劇に出てくる下僕や奴婢のようで笑えます。

We crossed the road to go to Moroyama Park and ran into Hina and Sena.  Taiga got so excited that she was jumping as she approached them.

茂呂山公園のソメイヨシノはすっかり散って、奥に見える八重桜の関山が咲き始めています。

The Somei-Yoshino cherry trees have lost their flowers, but another variety, Kanzan with double petals, will be in season soon.

３匹そろったところを写真に撮ろうとワンコたちに指示しましたが、よく言う「ペットと子供は不可能」な状態でした。ヒナが一応ポーズをとっても、

I tried to take pictures of the 3 Kaiken together, but it proved to be absolutely impossible.  They have no power of concentration.

セナは背中を向けたまま。

タイガは再会が嬉しくてとにかくヒナ・セナと向き合っていたい。

ここまではうまく揃ってもタイガが入らないので、

これで良し、ということにしました。

This was the best I could get.

ヒナたちと別れたあと、茂呂山の広場を散策。

After saying good-bye to Hina and Sena, we had a walk among the maple trees.

モミジも新葉が展開しています。

これからは写真左の関山を目当てに来ます。

Soon, Kanzan (on the left) will be in full bloom.
