ハンザが開花 Hansa flowering

朝散歩から帰って水を飲んだあと、オレンジの木陰で休むタイガ。座布団が置いてある場所は午後にならないと日陰にならないので暑すぎるようです。今うちの庭は柑橘類の花の香で圧倒されるくらいです。まさに天国の気分。

２年前に買ったハマナス系のハンザが開花しています。今は株を育てたいので、一日花を眺めたら摘花しています。

Hansa has started to flower.  I bought this plant 2 years ago, and this is the first year of flowering.

世の中にはもっと美形のバラがいくらでも存在しますが、私はこのグシャグシャのハンザが一番好きです。去年もう１本追加で買って、この苗の横に植えてありますが、開花はまだ。

There are a lot of rose varieties in this world with far more beautiful flowers, but I love Hansa the best.

種なしスダチが本格的に開花。

Seedless Sudachi starting to flower.  This is a heavy producer every year.

ミカンの石地フリーも満開。今年はなり年なので花つきも半端ないです。

Ishiji, a mandarin orange, in full bloom.  This year should be a bumper year. after resting last year..

スモモの李王の幼果。去年の春に棒苗で届いたものが、もう鈴なりに実をつけています。李王は贈答品としても使われる品種らしいので、どんな味なのか大変楽しみです。

Riou, the plum tree that I bought in spring last year, is already producing fruits.  Riou is a popular variety used for formal presents.

ブラッドオレンジのモロと、それに高接ぎしてあるミネオラオレンジも満開。

朝散歩で Morning Walk

 近所の中学の校庭横に生えているツツジ。花のピークは過ぎましたが結構きれいです。

The azaleas along the school ground near my house.  The peak of the flowering has passed but still pretty enough to look at.

この蛍光色のピンクはいつ見てもきれい。花はハデハデなのが好きなので。

This deep pink is my favourite.

いつもは夜の散歩で通る路地で発見。民家の裏庭で大して日当たりは良くないのに、暖地サクランボらしきものが生っていました。人がやっとすれ違い通れるような狭い裏道で、しかも夜にしか通らないので、これまで全く気づきませんでした。

I saw an early fruiting cherry tree in a narrow path behind houses.  It is a path that my dog chooses during walks at night.  So up until now, I never knew of this tree being there.

塀も何も人を遮るものが無いので、にじり寄って撮影。

There is no fence or anything but I think it belongs to one of the houses.

うちにあった鉢植え暖地サクランボは、どんなに厳密に網掛けしてもヒヨが侵入してことごとく食べて行ったので、とうとう栽培を諦めてしまいました。それが、この木は何と粒揃いの色揃いで、まるで造花のように綺麗な状態です。

I used to grow this variety of cherries - it grows well even in a warm climate.  However, I never got to eat any of the cherries since wild birds were always ahead of me, even though I always wrapped the potted tree with a protective net during the fruiting season.  So I gave up.  With that history in mind, I cannot believe that these cherries are surviving and doing so well.

ブリオシュバンズ Brioche Buns

「ブリオシュ」というと、かのマリー・アントワネットで有名ですが、今回作ったのは地味に丸パンです。でも中身は店で売られているものに引けをとらないフワフワ生地。

I made plain brioche buns.  They may look plain and humble, but the texture is as fluffy as any fancy brioche sold in the shop.

オリーブとパッションフルーツ Olives and Passion Fruit plants

 去年の秋に買ったオリーブ苗に蕾がたくさん着いています。右は、自家結実性がある品種ということで買いたいと思っていた念願のピクアル、左は同じ鉢に植えられていたシプレッシーノ。

I bought these olive plants in autumn last year.  They were cuttings, planted in the same small pot.  They spent the winter on the balcony, where they are now.  In spite of the size of the trees, they have lots of flower buds already.

右のピクアルは枝数が多いので蕾もどっさり。

This is Picual, a self-fertile variety that I had wanted for some time before I accidentally saw this last year.

左のシプレッシーノは根元の短い枝以外は主幹だけの棒状。その主幹に直接蕾が出ています。

Cipressino

パッションフルーツに蕾が出ています。昨年度の成長で２度の収穫を実現した親苗は処分しましたが、夏の間に作っておいた挿し木苗が順調に育って、今はバルコニーに出してあります。孫ヅルはまだ出ていないけど、子ヅルに盛んに蕾が出ています。

"Edulis", the most common passion fruit variety in Japan.  I made a cutting last year and it spent the winter indoors.  Its original, parent plant performed very well last year, giving me two harvests before dying in February this year on the balcony.

 道路わきの綺麗なクレマチス。丈が数十センチしかないのに立派に花を咲かせています。

なんとなく素朴で可愛い。

久しぶりに会ったアズキちゃん。タイガのほうが３，４歳年上ですが、一応、幼馴染なので会うと決まって追いかけっこが始まります。

We saw Azuki, a female black Shiba Inu, whom we had not met for months.  Although she is 3, 4 years younger than Taiga, they grew up together, so a chase starts every time they meet.

アズキちゃんは、かつての群れの中で最も俊足だったので太っちょのタイガには追い付けません。なのでタイガはいつも円の内側を走って応戦。

Azuki was the fastest runner among the pack that used to meet every evening.  Since Taiga is too heavy to catch up with Azuki, she always runs on the inside of an imaginary circle (Azuki being on the leash, she has to run in a circle).

時々ピタッと止まってはまた追いかけっこ。

そこへタービュレンのルイ君が到着。

Louis, a male Tervuren and Taiga's favourite boyfriend, arrives.

ルイ君はタイガの王子様。ルイ君が１歳下の９歳ですが、タイガは会えると大興奮です。

He is Taiga's 'prince', although he is a year younger than Taiga.

挨拶が済むと遊びの開始。

After the initial greeting, a play breaks out.

ルイ君得意のお尻キックを顔面にくらいました。

Louis has a knack of slapping Taiga's face with his bum.

初めて見るオールドイングリッシュシープドッグの男の子。管理しやすいようにロン毛を半分くらいに切っているそうですが、大きさに圧倒されます。

A new face - Old English Sheep Dog.  His coat is so long that his mom has had it trimmed for the summer.

生後６か月の柴の女の子。ワンコ達の仲間に入りたくてワクワク。

A 6-month old female Shiba Inu who is so happy to meet everyone.

歯は生え変わっているそうですが、まだカミカミするクセが残っています。

She has got permanent teeth but she still has the habit of nibbling anything including human hands.

みんなと一緒にいるのが楽しくてしょうがない様子。

She is just so happy to be with other dogs.

タイガは子供のとき自分もそうだったのに、今ではきゃぴきゃぴの子を前にすると尻込みします。

Taiga conveniently forgets that she used to be just like this puppy, and now she ignores younger dogs with high energy.

食用菊 Edible Chrysanthemum

 注文してあった菊苗と、ついでに買ったビルベリー苗が、きのうの午後に届きました。屋根の補修作業は昨日までかかったので、精神的に疲れていてとても直ぐに植え付ける元気はありませんでした。

Edible chrysanthemum plants and bilberry arrived yesterday afternoon, but I was too tired mentally to start planting them, since the roof repair work was not finished until yesterday.

品種名もわからずにずっと探していた食用菊。「かなわ」というそうです。先日、偶然ネット上で写真を見て「これだっ！」と思い、即注文。

These are the same variety as the cut flowers I was given in November 2021.  The old man who gave me the flowers did not know the name of the variety and he has since then lost his faculty.  So, I have been searching on the internet all this time, hoping to catch an image of the same variety - I saw it a few days ago and placed an order immediately.

この写真↓は2021年11月25日の記事に載せたもの。当時の知り合いから「畑で育てている食用菊」ということで切り花をいただきました。その人は年輩の方でもう会えなくなったので、藁をもつかむ思いでずっとネットサーフしていました。花は中輪咲きで観賞用としても十分綺麗なのに、全然普及していないのが不思議。

ビルベリー苗のほうはドイツで実生選抜されたもので、通常のビルベリーよりも暑さに強いそうです。この練馬区で果樹苗として成果をあげられるか見もの。現時点で、縫い針の頭ほどの極小の蕾が少しだけあります。

The bilberry plant was developed in Germany from a seedling and is said to be more heat tolerant than regular bilberries.  The plant has a few miniscule flower buds and I am looking forward to seeing how they perform.

今日の午後になって、やっと鉢に植え付け。菊苗は急成長するので、夏の間に地植えにする予定。

Finally, I planted them in pots this afternoon.

種なしスダチが咲き始めました。毎年鈴なりになるので、スペースさえあれば地植えにしたい苗です。

The seedless Sudachi has started to bloom.  This a very prolific plant.

ブラックベリーのナバホも開花。去年、太い新芽が１本だけ出たので、その枝を扇状に誘導したら、かなりの大苗になりました。

The blackberry 'Navaho' has also started to flower.

花柄はとても大きい。

The individual flower is the largest I have seen in blackberries or raspberries.

門のところのシラーが青い花をたくさんつけています。

秋には近所のガーデナーのために株分けする予定。

A neighbour and a fellow gardener has been admiring this flower, so I am planning to take some bulbs out in autumn this year to give them to her.

出たがり屋のタイガがやって来ました。

Taiga wants attention.
