Morning walk

It rained during the night again, and the ground was still wet when we went out for a walk.  Nightly rain saves me watering my plants.  The jizo-san statutes near the park had fresh flowers reflecting the season.

Simple little chrysanthemums taking the main position.

There is a wild persimmon tree in the field at the entrance of the Johoku Central Park.  The tree is prolific and when the fruits are overripe with jelly-like flesh, a lot of wild birds come to feast on them.  The trees in the park are not yet turning into autumn colours, but I am looking forward to it since I could not come thus far from home last year due to my sciatica that had just started.

When we walked through the woods near the entrance,

there was that distinct odour of this season, coming from the ripe ginkgo fruits on the ground.

We went up the stairs at the end of the woods and came to an opening where the blue sky greeted us.  The scenery was refreshing.

This flat piece of land lies in between two levels.  It is small enough for a nearby kindergarten to exclusively hire it for a day in order to hold a sports day in autumn.

We went up to the upper part of the park and ambled, before

having Taiga's treat time and resting.

When we returned to our neighbourhood, I saw a streak of white loud in the bright sky.

The photo does not justify but the view was quite stunning.  The cloud looked artificial as if in an oil painting done by a beginner.

Back home, I checked the edible chrysanthemums to confirm that today was the peak of flowering and best time for picking (Taiga was taking up the same position as a few days ago, hoping to get out onto the road for a game of chasing each other).

The flowers are sparkling in the sun.

This year's picking.

Some insects come to eat the petals, so I had to wash the flowers one by one.  After washing, I turned the flowers upside down to get rid of water, before packing them in plastic boxes for freezing.  I have given up the idea of drying the flowers.  The flowers turn brown whatever method I use - wash the flowers and dry straight away, or steam/microwave before drying.  I would love to know how the professionals manage to avoid the discolouring.
