午後散歩 Afternoon Walk

 フェイジョアが満開になっています。以前、フェイジョアはうちの主要果樹でしたが、その後いろいろ育てたいものが出てきて、スペースの制限があるため今ではリビングの横で、隣との目隠し役になっています。この場所ではあまり実が生らないけど、毎年ヒヨドリが花びらを食べに来るのを居間から見られるのでそのままにしています。

The feijoa trees are in bloom.  The feijoa used to be one of my most favourite fruit trees, but later, my interest expanded to many other species.  Due to the limitation in space, I replanted feijoas next to the living room.  They do not get full sun here, so they do not produce many fruits now.  However, one particular type of wild birds has learned to eat the petals, and I enjoy seeing them from my living room.  So, they are here to stay.

午後散歩でタイガは城北公園とは逆の方角に、石神井川沿いを歩くことを選びました。だいぶ歩いたところの遊歩道の入口にある、お地蔵が祭られている場所。と、今までは思っていたのが勘違いだったことが分かりました。

For the afternoon walk, Taiga chose to go in the opposite direction to Johoku Park, along the Shakujii River.  When we had walked some distance, we arrived at the starting point of a pedestrian path, where there was the jizo statue.  Jizo-san was what I always associated this spot with, but I was mistaken.

こちら↓、この方がここの主でした。いつもはゴチャゴチャに植物などが置かれて混雑しているのに、今日は見違えるほどすっきり整理されていて、この像があらわになっていたのです。

this individual, and he is the one this place was dedicated to originally.  Now, this place has always been overcrowded with plants and gifts, and I could not see this statue well.  Today, however, the shelves were very tidy, and I could see who the main character was.

私は今までこの↓お地蔵さんばかりを見ていたのですが。　今は地蔵さんの目の前にある青い支柱の元にはアサガオのツルが育ち始めているので、もうすぐ隠れてしまいそう。

Before, I always paid my attention to this statue only.  He is called the 'guardian of little children'.   I am afraid he will be soon hidden - someone has placed a pot of morning glory plant with a blue supporting stick in front of him.

遊歩道のその先は急に開けた空間。

At the end of the walkway, suddenly an open space.

その更に先へ行き、右折して歩きつづけると、かつて豊島園があったとろに今はハリー・ポッター・スタジオが運営されています。２年前に完成したそうですが、私には興味のない世界なので、ハリポタの本を読んだこともありません。

If you walk a bit further and turn right, you will arrive at the Harry Potter Studio - that place is said to be the largest of its kind in the world.  Where it stands, there used to be the Toshimaen Park for children - every child in Japan used to know the name.  The studio opened 2 years ago, but I have never even read any of Harry Potter books.

先へ行くかわりに、ここで折り返して帰ることにしました。左の桜並木が今来た遊歩道、右のイチョウ並木が帰り道です。

So, instead of going further, we decided to turn back.  The cherry tree side on the left is where we came, and the ginkgo tree side on the right is our way home.

家を目指して歩いていたら、去年の春頃から何度か会ったことのあるワンコがやって来ました。遠くから見ると日本スピッツのような、または超小柄なサモエドのようにも見えます。保護団体から迎えた子なので両親のことは分からないそうです。

As we walked towards home, we met a familiar face that we have known since last year.  He looks like a Japanese spitz, or a miniature Samoyed.  He came to the current owners from a rescue organisation, and information about his parents is not known.

真っ白フワフワなので、飼い主さんが付けた名前は「大福」君。

He is white and fluffy, so the owners named him 'Daifuku', a kind of mochi with sweet beans inside.

大福君はタイガを見つけて最初は喜んで近づいて来たのに直ぐに興味を失ったので、

On seeing Taiga, Daifuku was initially excited and ran towards us, but he soon lost his enthusiasm.

タイガは飼い主さんに挨拶を始めました。大福君が慌てて飼い主さんに寄ってきます。

So, Taiga started to greet Daifuku’s mom.  Daifuku rushed to his mom's side.

さらに、飼い主さんがタイガの頭を撫で始めると、大福君が唸り始めました。ヤキモチ焼きのようです。

When his mom started stroking Taiga, Daifuku growled with jealousy.

大福君たちと別れて自宅を目指しているうちにベンチがあったので、タイガが私を引っ張って休憩を促しました。オヤツタイムです。

After parting with Daifuku, we walked on until we came to a bench. Taiga pulled me towards the bench, signalling it was the time for a treat.

今日のオヤツは硬いジャーキーだったので、カリカリ噛んで味わっていました。

Today's treat was a hard jerky stick, and Taiga had to munch it making cracking noises.

口を閉じた瞬間のほっぺたのシワがカワイイです。

When she shuts her lips, the side of her mouth and the cheek look comically cute.

朝散歩 Morning Walk

朝散歩で公園へ向かう途中、石神井川沿いの歩道で見たヒルガオ。薄っすらピンクに、濃いピンクのスジスジが入っています。何ともカワイイ。ヒルガオは大好きですが、以前 ひと夏だけの予定で庭の片隅で育てたら、その後４年くらいに渡り夏になるとツルを引っこ抜く作業が待っていました。

On our way to the park, I saw these flowers growing in the tree plant zone of the Shakujii River - bindweed, or Calystegia pubescens.  Unlike the usual ones with plain pink, these flowers had darker streaks against the background of pale pink.  They looked so pretty.  However, they are extremely invasive, and I have learned my lesson from one summer when I grew it in my garden.  It took the following 4 summers to eradicate the roots.

今朝はいつもと異なる入口に向かったのですが、公園手前の道で池袋のサンシャインビルが見えました。昔 池袋から一駅離れた要町駅の近くに住んでいたときは、毎朝カーテンを開けるともっと近くに見えていたのが思い出されました。

We chose a different entrance to the Johoku Central Park this morning.  At the crossing near the park, I could see in the distance the Sunshine Building of Ikebukuro, which has been the landmark since the late 1970s.  I used to see this building even closer when I lived only one stop away from Ikebukuro - I now live 4 stops away on the same Yurakucho Line.

公園に着くと、前に一度会ったことのある男の子がいました。エール君、３歳。遠くから見ると小柄のハスキー犬かと思ってしまいます。飼い主さんによると、この子は元々 香川県で保護された子で、母親が白い紀州犬だということだけ分かっているそうです。そう言われてみると、有色紀州犬の風貌を連想させます。

When we entered the park, we saw an individual that we had seen once before.  His name is Aile, 3 years old.  When I saw him from a distance, I took him for a small Husky, but he is not.  According to his mom, he was a rescued puppy, and his mother was a white Kishu.  Hearing that, I could see some traits of Kishu with colours.

この顔、紀州犬と言われれば、そう見えてきます。狩猟をする人たちにとって猟犬はしっかり仕事をしてくれれば十分であって、家庭犬のような真っ白い個体である必要はないことから、狩の現場では茶色などの有色紀州が今も活躍しているそうです。

This face reminds me of a non-white Kishu.  The white Kishu is generally bred as family pets.  For hunters, the colour of the dog is not important, as long as the dog performs as a hunting companion.  So, in the Kishu region, many hunters use Kishu dogs with brown or dark colours mingled with white.

タイガおばさんが優勢に終わりました。タイガの耳は真っ直ぐ前を向いて強気なのに対し、エール君の耳は後ろへ倒れています。

帰宅すると、タイガは玄関で伸びていました。若者の前で精一杯 見栄を張って疲れたようです。

When we got home, Taiga was absolutely exhausted from the morning's exertion.

昨夜の「芯まで食べられるパイナップル」のクラウンは、ひとまず水につけておきました。今朝になってみたら、

I left the pineapple crown in a glass of water last night - the Taiwanese pineapple with a delicious soft core.  When I took it out this morning,

なんと、ツブツブのものが出ていました。これは、根っこの元？ひと晩でこんな変化が起きるとは、びっくりです。とりあえずワンコの朝散歩を済ませてから植え付けることにしました。

I saw these strange nodes.  Are these going to be future roots?  I could not believe such a change overnight.  I decided to plant it as soon as I came home from Taiga's morning walk.

ネットの記事を参考に、鹿沼土7割 + 普通用土３割で植え付けました。育つといいなぁ。

I made a soil mixture according to an article I found on the internet.  I hope it grows.
