朝散歩で What we saw during morning walk

 去年の秋以来、散歩コースはタイガの行きたい方向へ私が付いていくというかたちをとっています。もう８歳半で特に躾やリーダーシップウォークについては拘らないことにしたので、私がフォロワーになっています。

今朝は公園ではなく、いつもは夜散歩で通る住宅街に向かいました。おかげで前から気になっていた光景を明るいなかで見ることができました。パパイヤの苗が植わっている農園です。今年の始めには50cmくらいの苗が植わっているのに気づきましたが、てっきり小苗として夏の間に出荷されるものと思っていました。今は結構育っていて、露地栽培されるのかもしれません。冬の間に雪や霜で溶けなければよいのですが。

This morning, Taiga took one of the walking courses of night time, instead of going to the park.  As a result, I could see the view in daylight that I had always wanted to check out - a place with papaya plants.  I had noticed tiny papaya plants in spring this year and assumed that the farmer was going to sell the small plants during the summer.  They are now overgrown to be sold as plants and seem destined to pass the winter outdoors.

近づいてよーく見ると、実が生っています。

On a closer look, I noticed that there were some fruits on the trees.

ぱっと見、東南アジアの長実で果肉が淡いオレンジ色のパパイヤに似ています。

隣の木には2個の実があります。

This tree has 2 fruits.

手前の日差しを受けているのと、もう一個はそのすぐ奥。

I could never see these during our nighttime walk.

少しあるいたところの家の軒先。咲き始めた南天の花が見事でした。

こちらは是非とも明るい中で見たかった皇帝ダリア。うちの近所のはもう花が終わっていますが、この株はもう少し楽しめそうです。家の人の話では、花のピークはとっくに過ぎたそうですが、それでも綺麗です。

皇帝ダリアはこの一重の品種が好きです。八重のは色の濃淡が分かりにくいのでインパクトが無いと思います。

According to the owner, its flowering peak has long past.  Nevertheless, they are still very impressive due to their size.

JAで苗を眺めていたら、近所の方から「山梨の親戚が干し柿を送ってきた」と声を掛けられました。これがお裾分けです。「蜂屋」の干し柿。うちの田舎では「長とろ」と呼んでいた品種です。秋に色づいたのを取って生のままモミ殻の山に入れておくと、12月には甘くてとろとろになっています。あの大きな実を干し柿にできるということは、相当気温が低くて乾燥しているのでしょうか？

My neighbour gave me dried persimmons - his brother in Yamanashi Prefecture had sent them to him.  They are made from huge persimmon variety called 'Hachiya'. Yachiya is astringent as fresh but, when dried over weeks, they become very sweet.

これは山梨県の会社が出しているお菓子だそうです。

外側は羊羹と黒蜜をたして割ったような食感で、中の緑色の部分はサツマイモのような栗のような味がしました。とても美味しい貴重なお菓子でした（もう食べた）。

公園で At the park

 今日は良い天気。お肉屋さん横の草地の傍のイチョウの木にはまだ葉っぱが残っていました。今年は長く黄葉を楽しめます。

Nice and sunny day today, so we walked to the other side of the park.

道を渡って向こうの林に向かいます。我が家の方角からは公園の反対側なので頻繁には来ないですが、黄葉が残っていました。

日向はぽかぽかでタイガも心地良さそうです。

Taiga seems to be enjoying the warmth of the sun.

立ち上がったら、オシリに落ち葉がくっついていました。見ている私のほうが脱力。

As she got up, she had leaves on her bottom - looking so silly.

林の中を歩きます。

We walked through the woods.

向こうから友達のスバル君が来ました。久しぶりなのでお互いを見つけて大喜び。

We saw Subaru, Taiga's friend, walking in the same woods.  They were delighted to see each other.

タイガはスバル君ママにも挨拶。

それが終わると「待ってました」とばかりに遊びモード。

After that, they were ready to play.

このあとエネルギーが爆発。

Their pent up energy about to explode.

スバル君が枝を見つけてそちらに集中。

Subaru has found a stick and his attention is now focused on it.

ママが取り上げようとしても放しません。

His mom tried to take it away but Subaru would not let it go.

その後はまた林の中を散策。

After parting with Subaru, we walked on.

タイガはそろそろオヤツタイム。

タイガはヨダレの多いワンコなので「オヤツ」と思っただけでタラタラしてきます。

She has a lot of saliva and she does not care where it lands.

ドッグラン横の林を通って帰りました。

On our way home, we walked through the woods next to the dog park.

I could not see any familiar faces in the dog park (beyond the woods),

ランからは賑やかな様子が伝わってきましたが、かなり歩き回ったので素通りして帰りました。

nevertheless, we could tell that they were having lots of fun.

パネトーネ Panettone

 イタリアのクリスマスのお菓子であるパネトーネを作りました。厳密にはパネトーネ種というものを使うべきですが、ドライイーストで簡単に作りました。庭のオレンジの皮をすりおろして生地に入れたので、焼きあがるにつれオレンジゼストの香りが強烈でした。

I made panettone with dry yeast (a bit cheating).  The mould's inner diameter was only 9cm, so the baked panettone needed no hanging upside down to prevent deflation.

ミカンとオレンジ Mandarins and Oranges

 今年はミカンやオレンジの生り年です。これ↓は10号鉢で2階に置いている石地フリー。鉢植えでも地植えのような大きさの実が生るので柑橘類は有難いです。

Mandarins and oranges are maturing.  This plant is 'Ishiji (Virus-free)'.  The good thing about citrus fruits is that the size of the fruit is as good as those of plants growing in the ground.

こちら↓は地植えのモロに接いである田口早生。今年の実は酸が強いので、もいだら1週間ほどたってから食べています。

'Taguchi Wase' mandarin - this variety produces very large fruits.

タロッコもだんだん色づいてきました。

公園で At the park

 今日は最高気温が17℃だったそうですが、朝散歩のときも暖かくて春の陽気でした。今年最後のピクニックランチをしたかったけど、寝坊して準備を諦めました。四中近くの築山でタイガのオヤツタイムをしたあと、茂呂山公園へ向いました。

Unusually warm day today with the maximum temperature reaching 17℃.  I was planning to have the last picnic lunch today but got up far too late.

So, we just walked and walked, eventually reaching Moroyama Park.

いつのまにか、スッカスカ。

頂上のナラの木はまだ葉っぱがあります。

その後は道を渡って向いの柿の木広場へ移動。

We then moved to the Persimmon Park across the road.

柿の木広場横の家は庭が広く、イチョウの巨木があります。

The land of this park used to belong to the house next door, where there is a huge ginkgo tree.

そのイチョウの近くにはユズの木が２本、毎年たわわに実を着けます。うちのユズの小苗は、今年の始めに地植えにしたので木の成長に栄養が回されて実はゼロでした。

At the foot of the ginkgo tree are two Yuzu trees with lots of fruits.  I enjoy looking at them since my Yuzu tree did not produce fruits this year.

帰ろうと、タイガを呼んだらオヤツと勘違いして喜び勇んで戻って来ました。

I called Taiga back to go home.

帰り道途中の屋敷林。ここはうっそうとしているので、日当たりの良しあしでモミジの紅葉のタイミングにズレがあり長く楽しめます。

On our way home, we stopped at the privately-owned woodland open to the general public.  The trees grow so dense that the maple trees start turning into autumn colours at different times, which means that I can enjoy the scenery for a long time.

ここは春にはシャガ（写真右下）が見事なのと、和製のニワトコなど珍しい植物もあるし、夏はウグイスの地鳴きも聞ける貴重な林です。こうやって一般に開放される前は農家の庭の一部だったそうです。

This woodland has a lot of interesting plants since it used to be a part of the garden belonging to the farm house next door.  As a result, I enjoy walking through this place all year round.
