朝散歩 Morning Walk

 今日も良い天気。この穏やかな天気や黄葉がいつまで持つのか分からないので、毎日満喫しています。

We are having a spell of fine weather.  I am enjoying the weather and the view in the park while they last.

写真を撮りながら歩いていると、タイガが右へ行ったり左へ行ったり急に引っ張るので、今までカメラを落とさずにきたのが不思議なくらいです。中型犬以上が引っ張る力は強いです。

As I walk taking pictures, Taiga keeps pulling me into different directions.  It is a wonder that I have managed not to drop the camera so far.  

そこで、時々係留。全然シュンとする様子もないので、学習効果なしです。

So, I tie her wherever possible while I take photos.  Since she is never put out by it, she does not seem to realise why she is grounded.

久しぶりに会ったバムちゃん（写真左）。ママに関してヤキモチ焼きの傾向があります。タイガは知り合いなのでまだガマンできていましたが、

We met Bam (left) after a long absence.  She tends to be jealous about other dogs getting close to her mom.  Since Bam has known Taiga for several years, she just about tolerates her.

たまたま通りかかった初対面のボーダーの子が接近してくると、警戒心マックス。ボーダーの子は「ミライ」君、５歳だそうです。

However, when a new face, a 5-year old Border Collie, approached her mom, Bam became tense.

アラームが作動しました。

The alarm goes off.

ママにたしなめられて一瞬静かになりましたが、

She was checked by her mom

くすぶったまま。

but she never relaxed.

人間みんなしてワンコたちを仲良くさせようと声をかけます。

We all tried to let the dogs get on with each other without much success.

まあ、次回があればそれに期待です。

If there is next time, hopefully, Bam will be more friendly.

黄葉 Trees in autumn colours

 今日は秋晴れ。もうすぐ師走とは思えないくらい暖かい日でした。公園のイチョウの木は燃えるような黄色で、たぶん今が最も綺麗な時期だと思います。

Another warm and fine day and it was really hard to believe that December is only a few days away.  The ginkgo trees are probably at their peak in terms of looking beautiful.

For enjoying the trees in autumn colours, the wooded area near the reconstructed ancient dwelling is my favourite.

今朝、スーパーからの帰りに覗いたJAで、見てはいけないものを見てしまいました。厚物の菊です。数種類の花色の苗が売られていて、咲き始めた２週間くらい前から意識していたのですが、今朝見たら満開で一層美しく見えました。しかも、満開になっても売れないからか、税込み500円に値下げされていました（以前は600円）。

On my way home from the supermarket this morning, I saw what I shouldn't have seen.  A large chrysanthemum flower in full bloom.  I have been aware of several such plants of various colours since 2 weeks ago, as the flowers were starting to open.  Today, I found that they had reduced the price to 500 yen (less than 4 US dollars).  With the flowers fully open, the seller must be in a hurry to clear the shelf. 

この美しい花をつくる技術がたったの600円だったこと自体あきれていたのに、値下げされた今、買わないと申し訳ないような気分になりました。花は直径20cmほどの大輪です。

Originally, the price was set at 600 yen and I was appalled to think that the skill to produce this beautiful flower was considered that low.  Now that it was reduced to 500 yen, I felt sorry and sad for the grower.  So, I bought one of them.  The flower is about 20 cm in diameter and really beautiful.

斜め上から見たとき、周りのほつれた花びらもなんとも言えない風情。

今年の春に買ったピンクの花も、ちゃんと育てればこの黄色の厚物のようになるべき品種です。来年こそはきちんと育てます。

The pale pink variety I got in spring this year should have looked like this yellow one, had I been strict enough to follow the rules.  I hope to take care of them properly next year.

シャンプーの後で After the shampoo

 近所の垣根で見かけた山茶花の花。白花に外側の花びらがピンクなので何とも言えない美しさ。もう山茶花の季節、ということは年末もすぐそこ。

Beautiful sasanqua flower on my neighbour's fence.  When sasanquas come into season, I am keenly aware of the impending yearend - another year will be gone.

今朝のタイガのゲリピーおしりを綺麗にしたかったのと、最近、体臭が気になり始めたので、午後にシャンプーしました。暖かい日だったので、ドライヤーを使う前に公園散歩で自然乾燥させました。ところどころ雨雲のような厚い雲がかかっていて、ドラマチックな景色。

After Taiga's diarrhoea this morning, I wanted to clean her up.  Also, she was beginning to smell.  She had her last shampoo several weeks ago, and she has been rolling over the grass a lot.  After washing, before using the hair dryer, I took her out for a walk since it was a very warm day.  

林の中を歩いていると、今日もケビンに会えました！ タイガを見ると大興奮で近づいてきます。

When we were walking through the woods, we met Kevin again!  As always, he got excited to see Taiga.

タイガはうっとおしそうな顔をしていますが、自分だって10年前はこうだったのを忘れているのでしょうか。

タイガの塩対応にもめげず、ケビンたたきますはタイガの顔に猫パンチ。ボカボカボカっと一瞬のうちに何度もたたきます。

Not put off by Taiga's attitude, Kevin persisted, hitting her face like a machine gun.

タイガは終始、無表情を通しました。

Taiga remained nonchalant throughout.

公園上の方を目指して歩いていたら声を掛けられました。何年か前に、ホワイトレトリーバー同士で、うちの近所の子といつも一緒に散歩していた子は既に亡くなって、その後に迎えたこの子はもう５歳だそうです。この子はクレアちゃん、５歳。時の経過をワンコの成長や交代で知る生活を、今はしているのだなあと感じました。

As we were heading towards the higher ground of the park, someone with a White Retriever called out to me.  She used to walk with my neighbour who also had a White Retriever just like hers.  Now, this White Retriever in the picture is the successor to the one I used to see.  She is already 5 years old, which really made me feel the passage of time.

その後、陸上競技場横の道や広場を散策。

After that, we walked through the path alongside the sports ground, enjoying the trees in autumn colours.

カメラを向ける方角によって、雨雲が立ち込めていたり、

Depending on the direction I looked, the sky was dark with heavy clouds,

真っ青な空だったり、

or clear blue sky, 

または半々の空模様。

or even half cloudy and half blue sky.

陸上競技場は夕焼けなのか良く分からない景色。まるで遠くで火事が起きているような空でした。

The sports ground had an interesting sky with the setting sun, as if there was a great fire in the distance.

帰りは茂呂山公園近くの道を通って、いつもの柑橘果樹の様子を確認。集合住宅の前に植わっています。

On our way home, we passed by the citrus tree which stands in front of a block of flats.

実の様子からしてナツミカンだと思います。完熟は来年の春以降なので実を着けたままで越冬するはずですが、ここまで鬼剪定して厳冬になったら木が枯れてしまう危険もあります。

When they pruned this tree in autumn, they removed too many leaves.  The fruits will not be ripe until spring next year.  But, with so few leaves, the tree may die if we have a particularly severe winter.

庭の様子 Misc.

 タイガは昨日の夕方散歩で、枯草の中からワンコのウンチを掘り出して食べてしまいました。その影響か、今朝はゲリピー。早朝散歩から帰ったあとも落ち込んで、家の中に入ろうとしませんでした。そこで、私は庭の様子を観察。

Taiga had a diarrhoea this morning, after digging out and eating a dog's poop out of fallen leaves in the park during the evening walk yesterday.  When we came home after an early morning walk, she did not want to go inside.  So, I stayed with her and took the opportunity to check the plants in my garden.

今年の２月頃に南高梅の枝を２か所、地植えスモモのエレファントハートに接いでおきました。接ぎ木が下手な私にしては良い結果となり、夏の間にグングン育ったのできめ細かく剪定して小枝をたくさん出させました。かなり充実した枝になったので、来年用の花芽が着いているような気がします。南高は自家結実性が低いそうですが、斜め前の公園には私が植えた南高の隣に誰かが植えたもう１本の梅があって、どちらも毎年鈴なり。相性が良さそうなので、将来は梵天を持って行って花粉を採取する予定です。

I grafted ume scions in two places on the "Elephant Heart" plum tree in February this year.  This ume is a variety called "Nanko" and produces superior quality fruits, ideal for making ume pickles.  Both scions grew fast and steady during the summer months and I had to prune the new growth often.  Thanks to that, I think the small branches became mature enough to have potential flower buds for next spring.  

今年の春に幼苗で買った、国華園生まれの厚物の菊が咲き始めました。予想よりもはるかに淡いピンクです。来年こそは心を鬼にして、本来あるべき姿の１本立ちの１輪咲きに仕立てるつもりです。また、菊専用の肥料も買ってやります（今年は果樹用の配合有機肥料でした）。

The chrysanthemum plant I bought in spring this year has started to bloom.  This is a variety that should have just one stem, and one huge flower, but I was not determined enough to follow the rules.  As a result, it has 3 stems with several medium-sized flowers on each.  Next year, I will be strong enough to stick to the rules that are prescribed for this variety.

ミカン「田口早生」は現在、カラカラオレンジに高接ぎした枝１本だけになっています。じょうのう皮が気になる品種なのと、大実になりがちで味が薄まってしまう傾向がありました。対して、「石地フリー」は薄いじょうのう皮とオレンジのような濃厚な味、しかも一番美味しくなる時期が田口と同じ12月下旬なので、これからはミカンは石地で正月を迎えるつもりです。この枝は本体のカラカラよりも勢いがあって、夏から秋にかけて枝の間引きが大変です。

I used to grow a tangerine called "Taguchi" but now it exists only in this branch, grafted onto Cara Cara orange tree.  This branch is so vigorous that it could overtake the host tree if I do not control it by frequent pruning.  Taguchi's fruits are very large and the taste is not as strong/sweet as oranges.  Since I have another tangerine that ripens at the same time as Taguchi, but with much stronger and sweeter taste, having this one branch will suffice.

これが継ぎ目。いつまでたっても接ぎ木は上達しません。今年の春に柑橘類は６か所、地植えのものに高接ぎしましたが、すべて枯れました。ほとんど恐怖症になって、秋の接ぎ木シーズンを逃してしまったほどです。

This is the grafting point.  As you can see, I am not good at grafting.  I tried to graft citrus scions on 6 branches in spring this year, but all of them died out.  After that, I was so scared of failure that I missed the grafting season this autumn.

公園で At the park

 今朝は急激な冷え込みで冬のような寒さでした。冷気のおかげで、公園入口の草地にあるハゼの木が赤く色づき始めています。

Yesterday was unseasonably warm but it got drastically cold during the night.  The Japanese wax tree turned red overnight, it seems.  

草地の周りのケヤキも一晩で色づいた感じです。

The zelkova trees are at last turning into orange colours.

いつもの林を散策。

We walked through the woods.

黄葉したイチョウの葉っぱが朝日を浴びて燃えるような黄色です。

The leaves of the ginkgo tree are glittering in the morning light as if they are on fire.

足元に小型犬の気配が。。。

As I was looking up, I sensed the presence of a small dog.

初めて会う、３歳のポメ、名前は「むい」君。とても懐こくて私の脚にしがみついて来ました。

A new face: 3-year old Pomeranian, named Mui.  He was so friendly and hugged my leg,

and tried to hang on.

左の白いトイプードルの子は6歳の繁殖リタイア犬で、ペットショップで売られていたそうです。名前は「いる」。雌雄の別を聞き忘れてしまいましたが、6歳まで繁殖に使ったあと売るとは。

The white Toy Poodle on the left was recently released by a breeder and now lives as a beloved member of the family.

ポメのほうは怖いもの知らずで、タイガにも積極的に近づいてきました。

The Pomeranian is fearless and is curious to meet Taiga.

そのあと、久しぶりに白柴のハクとばったり。相変わらずズカズカと年上のタイガに挑戦してきます。

Later, we met Haku, a male White Shiba Inu, after a long absence.  His owner has been keeping him away from other dogs and humans after an incident, and he has not learned from the experience.

ムッとするタイガ。飼い主さんに後ろへ引っ張られてストップ。

Taiga checks him.

ハクの様子からして何がいけないのか理解していないようですが、タイガの耳や姿勢は思いっきりイヤがっています。

Haku does not understand why Taiga is on alert.

自制心を働かせたタイガを後でほめてやりました。

When we were alone, I praised Taiga for having been patient.
