朝散歩など Morning Walk etc

 早朝散歩中に、同じ桜台地区に住むコーギの「ひめこ」と久しぶりに会えました。毎回、今まで見たことのない服を着ているので、一体 何着持っているのか想像もつきません。

During our early morning walk, we met Himeko, a female Corgi in the neighbourhood.  Every time we see her, she is wearing clothes I have never seen before.  I cannot imagine how many she has in her closet.

タイガは、この世で一番大好きな人間である「ひめパパ」に撫でてもらいます。その次に好きなのが「ひめママ」。この二人に甘えるときのタイガの目つきや笑顔は、他では見たことありません。で、私のことはたぶん使用人程度の位置づけです。

Taiga snuggling up to Himeko's dad who is her most favourite human on this earth.  Her second most favourite person is Himeko's mom.  The way she looks - her dreamy eyes and smile - I never see with anyone else.  As to myself, Taiga probably regards me as her paying servant.

ひめこはヤキモチ焼きなので、心穏やかではありません。

Himeko is a jealous individual, so she is not happy seeing Taiga with her dad.

ママが「おやつ」の言葉を発したので、急にひめもタイガも精神集中。

Himeko's mom mentioned the magic word 'treat', and the two pooches suddenly stood to attention.

なかなか出てこない。

We are waiting....

帰宅して、ローゼルの状態をチェック。草丈は３メートル近くになったところで、やっと伸びが落ち着いたようです。その代わり脇枝が充実してきて、狭いスペースで更に周囲の植物を圧迫しています。もうリスボンレモンの木は埋没しています。

Coming home, I checked the state of the roselle.  The plant seems to have stopped growing taller after reaching nearly 3 metres.  Instead, the lateral branches have been growing thick.  As a result, in this tight space, the roselle plant is pushing away all the nearby plants.  I cannot see the Lisbon lemon tree anymore.

今見える赤いもののほとんどが開花後のガク。ガクが育ってきたので結構人目を引くようで、通りがかりの人に何なのか尋ねられるようになりました。来年は、バルコニーで鉢植えにすれば乾燥気味になるので、草丈を抑えながら栽培できると思います。YouTubeでローゼルのガクの健康効果を知って以来、ガゼン栽培意欲が沸いてきました（今年のを料理して美味しければ、のことですが。）

Most of the red pieces in the photo are calyxes after flowering.  As the calyxes grow larger, they become conspicuous.  Some passersby have asked me what the plant was.

Next year, I plan to grow a roselle in a pot on the upstairs balcony, in which case the plant height should be more controllable since the water supply will be limited.  After learning about the health benefits of roselle calyxes, I am keen on growing these plants every summer (provided that the cooked calyxes turn out to be delicious).
