パッションフルーツ Passion Fruits

 パッションフルーツの苗は10号鉢で越冬したものを、寝室の横のパルコニーに置いています。一昨年、キウイ棚セットを買って組み立てたものの、キウイ苗自体は一階の地面からまだ十分到達していないので「空き家」状態。そこで、去年の夏に買ったパッションフルーツでグリーンカーテンを、と思いました。

昨夜の雨嵐のせいか、１個が鉢の土の上に落下していました。

The passion fruit plant that I bought last summer spent the winter indoors, but now it is sitting next to my bedroom on the balcony.  We had a stormy night last night with a heavy rain and, this morning, I noticed one of the two fruits was on the ground.  Luckily, the fruit fell on its own soil.

バルコニーに出て現状を確認。もげたのは5個の花のうち最後のものからの実でした。

10号鉢でも順調にツルが伸びています。来年用に今年の夏のうちに挿し木で新たな苗を作って、今度の冬は苗の更新ができるか試してみます。

I will make a new plant from a cutting, so as to replace this large one by the end of this year.

これだけツルがあれば挿し木するのに困らないでしょう。

もう蕾も出始めています。

Flower buds are already coming out.  I cannot believe how easy it is to grow this plant.

もう１個も収穫しました。

Both fruits harvested, so that the plant can concentrate on growing new flowers.

実は小さめだけど、美味しい！ グアバの場合、どの段階で収穫するかで旨い不味いに大きく影響しますが、パッションフルーツは多少未熟で収穫しても、それはそれで激うま。何ともいえないトロピカルな風味に大満足です。栽培が簡単で、こんなに美味しい果物が自宅で生るなんて、話が良すぎです。

The fruits may not be huge, but they tasted absolutely delicious.  The amazing thing with the passion fruit is that whenever you harvest, it tastes good, unlike the guava which is very particular about the timing/stage of ripeness.

今日は蒸し暑い一日だったので、タイガは夏恒例の玄関タイルの上で昼寝。最近、蚊が出始めているので容易に外には出しません。それにしても、お腹が大変なことになっています。

After the rain yesterday, it was very humid all day today.  The tiled floor of the porch is Taiga's favourite place during summer.  Mosquitoes are starting to come out, so I am not keen to let her outside.

去年の春に買った極小の赤葉モミジ。葉っぱが城北公園のノムラモミジよりも繊細で、とても気に入っています。冬の間の葉っぱが無い状態も観賞価値がありました。主幹も細枝も全体が真っ赤な樹皮でした。モミジの枝の下に新芽が見えています。

The red-leaved Japanese maple tree that I bought last spring: I do love this variety with its delicate leaves.  

去年、開花苗として買ったヤマユリが、やっと顔をのぞかせています。ヤマユリは半日陰が良いと思うので、果樹栽培で日陰だらけのうちの庭に最適です。支柱の陰になって見えませんが、どうやら１本だけではないようで、土の表面がホワッとしています。

'Yamayuri' lily is coming out at last.  I bought this plant when it was in bloom last summer.  It looks like that I am going to have more than one stalk this year, judging by the state of the top soil.

植物いろいろ Developments with various plants

 公園の帰り道、川沿いのツツジが満開でした。濃いピンクのは花びらがツヤツヤで蛍光色で、とても目を引きますがピンクの品種が私の好みです。

Azaleas are in full bloom, providing a beautiful walkway along the river.

昨日の夜もそうでしたが、最近よく雨が降るので水やり地獄から少し解放されています。地植えのものは、まあ、良く育つこと。写真右の青い花はシラーの仲間で、数年前に球根を撤去したつもりが、破片が残っていたらしく今はド根性で咲いています。

写真右奥の塀にはローガンベリーのワイマテを絡ませています。絡まったツルは４本、それぞれ数メートルの長さで、今年も豊作になりそうです。

タイガはもうすぐ９歳。こういう表情を見ると年齢を感じます。ワンコの場合、目つきがポワァ～ンとなって、目ヂカラが失われるような気がします。

We have had rains almost every day for the last 10 days or so, and plants are really growing.  

This blue flower plant has made a comeback after I thought I had got rid of it.  I must have missed a tiny scale in the soil -  it is so tough.  

こちら↓の紫の花は、種が飛んできて果樹の根本に生えたものを、わざと白いサギゴケの間に移植したものです。

Mazus miquelli flowers: the purple flowers are wild ones (weeds), whereas the white ones are a proper cultivar.  I like the idea of growing them together to enjoy the colour contrast.

うちの田舎では田畑のあぜ道に生えている雑草ですが、まるで園芸種のような顔をして咲いています。

ブラックベリーのナバホが咲き始めました。実物はもっと濃いめのピンクですが、写真では白っぽいのが残念。もう来年用のケインが根本に出ているので安心。なぜか、毎年１本しか出てこないです。

こちらは先述のローガンベリーのワイマテ。真っ白い花びらです。非常に強健な品種で豊産性。去年の収穫の一部がまだ消化しきれずに冷凍庫に眠っています。

These are flowers of "Waimate", a Loganberry from New Zealand.  The plant is very tough in growth, as well as being a prolific producer.  I still have some of last year's harvest in my freezer.

先日届いたバタフライピーの種は直ぐ鉢に直播きしました。その後、八重咲のバタフライピーにも興味が湧いて、別のお店から取り寄せました。今回は試しに水につけておいたら、何と３日で動きがありました。昨日の夜の時点では白いカビ！と思っていたものが、今朝になって種が動いていることがわかりました。ただし、これが根っこなのか芽なのか判別できなかったので、植えつける前にググって確認しようとしましたが、豆類に関する記事がみつかりません。植物によってはイネのように葉っぱがまず出てくるものもあるそうで、結局、土に数センチ深さの窪みをつけて、その中へストンと落としました。ここまで元気に動いているのだから、自分で向きを調整するでしょう。

ちなみに、あの青いチーズケーキを食べてみたら、何と、非常に美味しかったです！これで青い食べ物に対する偏見が少し崩れた感じです。夏に自家栽培の花を収穫したら、青いハーブティーを氷で冷やして飲むのが楽しみです。

The butterfly pea seeds I got recently were sown immediately.  

These in the picture below are from more recent purchase and these are a double flower variety.  After soaking the seeds for 3 days, they started sprouting - though I am not sure whether the white shoots are roots or leaves.

バタフライピーとマンゴーのレアチーズケーキ Butterfly Pea and Mango Cheesecake

 バタフライピーの種はまだ発芽してさえいませんが、一足先に粉末を材料にレアチーズケーキを作ってみました。青いものを食べる習慣がない私には、かなり抵抗あります。

After sowing seeds of butterfly pea plants, I got more interested.  So, I bought the powder of dried butterfly pea flowers and made a no-bake cheese cake.  I have never eaten blue things and am feeling rather hesitant about it.

公園で At the park

朝散歩のオヤツタイムを終えて帰ろうとしたら、久しぶりにルイ君に会いました。ベルジャンタービュレンの男の子でタイガより１歳下ですが、タイガの３人いるボーイフレンドのひとり。タイガの耳がぺったんこで、歩みに弾みがついています。

We met Louis, a male Belgian Tervuren, as we were about to leave the park.  He is a year younger than Taiga, and is one of Taiga's 3 boy friends.  Taiga greets Louis with her years absolutely flat and with a spring in her gait.

挨拶の後はルイ君得意のオシリキック。しゃがみこんでいた私も、久しぶりに３回くらいました。

 ルイ君と別れたあとは、四中の草地でスリゴロ。最初は単に天気が気持ち良いのかと思っていましたが、あまりの執着ぶりにミミズの臭いを疑いました。なぜかワンコはミミズの臭いが大好きです。

After saying goodbye to Louis, Taiga decided to linger on in the field by rolling about.  She probably found a spot where a ground worm had been - dogs seem to adore the smell of ground worm.

そのうちガバッと起きたのでタイガを除けて地面をよーく見ましたが、ミミズの姿はありませんでした。

帰宅して私は庭の植物の観察。この時期、毎日新しい発見があるので楽しいです。ここ数日、毎日のように雨が降っていましたが、恵の雨とはよく言ったものです。

Back home, I went around checking new developments in plants.  After several days of rain, plants have grown a lot.

こちらはレインボーレッド。子房が良く見えないですが、雌花です。

２，３年前にオクで買った香りのあるエビネが今年初めて咲きました。２本の芽のうち大きいほうからですが、もう片方にも蕾が入っています。エビネは開花が始まってから拡大しながら咲くので、だんだんとオクでの宣伝文句のように直径4cmの大きな花になってきています。香は、鼻を押し付けるようにしてやっと匂う程度です。

こちらは正真正銘のコウズ系ニオイエビネ。写真には写っていませんが、去年の夏で大株になったので分割しました。子株のほうはバルコニーで、寝室のガラス戸の前で咲いています。こちらは何とも言えない良い香りです。

This is another fragrant ebine.  The stock grew large in 2 years, and I divided it into 2 last year - the other one is on the balcony, outside of my bedroom, where I can see the flowers first thing in the morning.

写真左の茶色の花は、ニオイエビネの苗におまけとしてついて来た株で、今年初めて咲きました。右の黄色のは以前からある地エビネで、去年の秋に鉢上げしたものです。

公園で At the park

 城北公園へ向かう途中で近所のゴロウと会ったので、一緒に公園へ向いました。新緑の季節で、今朝は暑くも寒くもない最適な気温。

On our way to the park, we met my neighbour's Gorou who was also heading in the same direction.  

The weather at the moment is very pleasant - neither too warm, nor too cool - and the fresh leaves on deciduous trees are looking so soft and beautiful.

古代家のある林を抜けたあとは川沿いに帰りました。

After walking through the woods where a reconstructed ancient house was, we turned back, walking along the river.

途中、久しぶりに出会った豆柴の小雪ちゃん。カメラが大嫌いなので、ヘン顔に写っていますが、本当はとても可愛い子です。

We met Koyuki, a miniature Shiba Inu, who hates the camera - otherwise, she is a very pretty girl.

スキを見てゴロウが臭いとり。

橋を渡って四中横の草地に着くと、バムちゃんがいました。保護犬として迎えられた当初は超ビビリ犬だったのが、今ではすっかり成長してこのあたりの犬社会に溶け込んでいます。

When we came to the last field, we met Bam, a rescued female.  When she was first adopted, she was such a scared puppy but now she is fully grown up and completely at ease with her position in the local dog community.

以前はタイガのことを怖がっていたのに、今では会うたびに自分から遊びを仕掛けてきます。バムちゃんの目つきを見ていると、挑戦するタイミングを狙っているのが直ぐに分かります。

Now, she always initiates playing when she sees Taiga - a far cry from the time when she was super scared of her.

ふたりとも追いかけっこをしたそうでしたが、日曜日で犬同伴でない公園利用者がいたのでリードのままで遊ばせます。

遊んだあとはオヤツ。順番を待つタイガの目つきが真剣そのものです。

After playing, a treat.  Taiga's eyes are nailed on the treat as she waits for her turn.

近くでボール遊びをしていたコーギのモっくん。ある甲斐犬に顔をガブリとやられて以来、甲斐犬が大嫌いになったそうです。先日初めてタイガを遠くからみかけたとき、遠目にも緊張が見てとれました。そこで、会うたびにタイガのオシリの臭いを嗅がせて自信をつけさせたところ、今朝はタイガ会うのはと４回目で随分と表情が変わっていました。

A male Corgi playing with a toy at some distance.  I met him for the first time recently and his owner told me that he had received a bite on his face from a Kaiken recently and he was still in a trauma every time he saw a Kai.  I was so shocked to hear that.  To get rid of his trauma, I let him smell Taiga's rear end so that he would feel more confident.  Today was the 4th time we met and he was already looking more relaxed.

今朝はここまで接近できました。

This is the closest I have seen them together.

その後はゴロウと一緒にのらりくらりと帰りました。

After that success with the Corgi, we headed home.
