今朝早くに始まるズームコールを待っている間、タイガも眠そうな顔。私の古巣のコレッジが主催したコールなので、イギリスで夕方6時はこちらの朝2時。待っている間に疲れてしまって、一旦コールが始まると講師の話を聞きながら本当に眠ってしまいました。私は最初からPCのカメラはオフ、音声もミュートにしての参加だったので、出席を取られたあとは何も気づかれていないかも。
Taiga looking tired and sleepy while I was waiting for the zoom call to start. The call was hosted by my alma mater and for the call to start at 6 p.m. in England, it meant 2 a.m. here in Japan. I was so tired by the time it started and I fell asleep not long after.
After the continuous rain over the last 2 days, it was all sunny and bright this morning. We met Goro and my neighbour as we were heading home, so we left the park together.
ふたりはとても仲が良いです。

先日のライムタルトを作ったあと、キーライムに興味をもったので、とうとう実をゲット。ネット上のサイトによってはメキシカンライムとキーライムが同一であるかのような表示で苗を売っていますが違います。フロリダキーズで栽培されていた東南アジア原産の小粒のライムが人気になって、キーライムとして米国では流通しているそうで、YoutubeでKey lime を使った動画を見ると、これ↓が出てきます。
10月は菊の季節。今年もピンクの食用菊の「もってのほか」を買いました。
I saw a pretty pink chrysanthemum plant in a shop and brought it home. This is an edible variety but I love the flowers as they are.
うちには以前から同じ品種があるのですが、苗を買った年は濃いピンクなのに、翌年以降はこの↓地植え苗（右側）のように白っぽい花になってしまいます。手前の大きく写っているのは今日買った苗。これで来年の花がまた白っぽくなったら、こういうものだと諦めてそのまま育てます。（肥料が違うのかなー？）
I already have this variety growing, bought last year as well as 2 years ago. They were deep pink flowers when I bought them, just like the plant I got today, but the flowers become pale from the 2nd year onwards, so I keep buying them.
After I made the lime tart a few days ago, I got interested in Key limes. I ordered them and they arrived this afternoon. Genuine Key limes, not Mexican limes.
かなり小粒で、シンガポールで働いていた頃、コーヒーショップやレストランで出て来たのはもう少し大きかった記憶です。そこで、うちの種無しスダチと比較してみることにしました。
The limes were so small and I decided to compare them with my Seedless Sudachi.

半分に切ってみました。どちらも良い香りです。特にスダチは今が旬で、もいだばかりの香りは最強です。
キーライムを絞って果汁を味見しました。この香りです。掃除が済んで暖房で温まった学校の冬の廊下の臭い。日本では清掃用洗剤の香り付けにはレモンに似せた香料がよく使われますが、イギリスは東南アジアでの歴史的背景が関係してか、ライムが香料としてよく使われていました。清掃用の消毒剤だけでなく、家庭でご飯を食べるときに子供達が飲む人気のライムドリンクもまさにこの風味でした。
果実はまだ沢山残っているので、種を採取して撒いてみようと思います。ある程度育ったところでカラタチに接げば耐寒性が高まるでしょう。
When I cut the lime in half, memories of my school days in England came back. This was the smell of the disinfectant after the janitor cleaned the corridor. It was very distinct in winter when the corridor got warm by the oil heater. Due to the historical background in the South East Asia, 'lime' in England meant those small fruits in that region, which are now known in the US as Key limes. Even the popular lime drink among children tasted like this with its unmistakable flavour.
I think I will keep seeds from these limes and grow seedlings. By grafting the seedling onto a Karatachi as the root stock, cold tolerance will be improved.
