ハンザが開花 Hansa rose

 先月届いたハンザ苗。ついに開花しました。

The rosa rugosa Hansa plant that arrived last month has started to flower.  It is now almost twice the size it was.

本来の開花の形状とは少し違うけど、夏の花なので良しとします。さっそく摘み取って、気候が涼しくなったときのローズティー用に冷凍しておきました。

Hansa may not be the prettiest rose in the world, but my best favourite variety.

苗の頂点に蕾が全部で7個ついています。苗が届いたときは今年から開花するとは思っていなかったので嬉しい。

去年の春に買ったケイパーは、ゆっくり育って今年やっと蕾が出てきました。以前テレビで欠かさず見ていた「モンタルバーノ ～ シチリアの人情刑事」のドラマを思い出しました。

The caper plant that I bought in spring last year has at last produced flower buds.  I am so looking forward to seeing that tropical-looking flower.

朝散歩で見かけた近所の宿根草の朝顔（ヒルガオというほうが正確？）。何年も前にうちでもひと夏だけ育てたことがありますが、悪夢でした。信じられないほどの生命力で、あっという間に狭い庭をツルが覆い尽くしてしまいました。おまけにシュートが一晩のうちにアスファルトの道に伸び出して、毎朝切り戻していました。この家のツルは、塀の向こう側部分は木質化しているはずです。

The perennial morning glory plant in my neighbourhood.  More than 10 years ago, I grew this plant in my garden, which turned into a nightmare.  It grew and covered the whole of my tiny garden in a short time.  Moreover, the plant started to cross the road by sending out shoots.  Never again.

よその家のだからこそ、その美しさを楽しめる。

向こうから近所のゴロウがやって来るのを発見。タイガは精神集中して獲物を狙っています。

Taiga spotted Goro, my neighbour's dog.

本人のイメージの中では、物陰に伏せて襲撃の準備。

She thinks she is hiding behind a bush, ready for an attack.

ゴロウは14歳のおじいちゃんなので、近づいてくるのがゆっくり。見ている私のほうがじれったいです。

Goro is 14 years old and too slow to reach us.

タイガが飛び出して行ってゴロウと挨拶しようとしてもスルーされたので、ゴロウママの元へ向かいます。

Taiga dashed out but Goro hardly noticed her.  So, she directed herself to Goro's mom.

ビルベリーなど Bilberry etc

 今年の春に買ったビルベリー苗が順調に育っています。ビルベリーはブルーベリーよりも耐暑性が低いそうですが、この苗はドイツで実生選抜されたもので通常のビルベリーよりは暑さに強いというセールス文句でした。

The bilberry plant I bought in spring this year has been growing nicely.  This is a seedling developed in Germany and said to be more heat tolerant than normal bilberries.

今年ほんの少しだけ花がついていたので、実もほんの少し。実の一部にシワが入り始めているので収穫期のようです。

It had some flowers this year and I can now see a few berries that seem to be ripe enough.

これで今年の全部。実のサイズは、以前育てていたビルベリーのよりさらに小さい。

実を半割にしてみると、中まで青い。ブルーベリーだと青いのは皮だけですが、ビルベリーは果肉もアントシアニンたっぷり。

I managed to cut the tiny berry in half.  The flesh inside is blue, whereas with blueberries only the skin is blue.

半割のを食べてみたらとても甘かったので、2個目に糖度計を当ててみました。何と18.3度。プルーン並みの甘さです。来年以降、もっと生ってくれたら嬉しいです。

The sugar content was 18.3%, as sweet as prunes.

先日届いたハマナス系バラのハンザに蕾が出てきました。この苗は京成バラ園からので、大事に大事に育てていきます。

The Hansa rose that arrived recently has a flower bud!  I am so looking forward to seeing the flower.

樹高は届いたときの1.5倍くらいになっています。

The plant has grown to about 1.5 times the original size.

今朝の散歩は石神井川沿いでした。早朝でも暑いので、タイガのシッポは垂れたまま。

During summer, I get up very early but it is already hot in the sun.  This morning, Taiga chose to walk along the river.

日陰伝いに帰りました。

We headed home trying to skip from one shade to another.

スダチ Sudachi fruits

 犬友のゴロウママからスダチをいただきました。ゴロウママの友達で徳島県出身の人がくれたそうです。犬友もその友達も果樹栽培には無関心なので、私の勝手な推測では、この時期にもう収穫できるのはハウス栽培だからでしょう。

うちの鉢植えスダチの現在との比較。うちのスダチは種無しトゲ無しなので、とても気に入っています。

My neighbour gave me some Sudachi fruits.  Sudachi is a famous produce of Tokushima Prefecture, and she got them from a friend who is from that Prefecture.  These must have been grown in a greenhouse, since they come into season in September.  So, I compared them with the fruits of my Sudachi, which are still very tiny.

赤花無点オニユリが咲きそろいました。雨が降ったり止んだりのうっとおしい天気のなかでキリリとした雰囲気です。

The spotless tiger lily is in full bloom.  In the humid air with occasional rains, these flowers look very cool.

ヒマ？　蚊がいるので、私が庭にいる間もタイガは家の中。目で訴えています。先月、左耳の中にできた腫瘍を取り除く手術をしたとき、内側の毛を綺麗に剃られましたが、今はほぼ元通りになっています。

Taiga looking bored.  Since it is a season of mosquitoes, she has to stay inside when I walk about in the garden to check the plants.  Her left ear is almost back to normal, after having had the inside shaved when the vet operated to remove the growth last month.

公園で At the park

 昨夜は雨で肌寒いくらいでしたが、今朝は一変、青空。ただし、地面がここ２，３日の雨を含んでいて蒸し暑い。

After a few days' rain, it was actually cold last night.  The sky cleared this morning and it was really humid since the soil retained rain moisture.

いつものように城北公園入口の草地を横切り、林の中を通って上のほうへ向かいます。

We headed towards the higher ground of the park, through the wooded area.

公園上のタイガの気に入りの広場。以前はここがオヤツスポットだったので、今でも私を引っ張ってきます。タイガにポーズをとらせていたら、

Taiga always brings me here since this used to be the spot where she could expect a treat.  

向こうから柴犬のコンちゃんがやって来ました。

As I was taking pictures, Kon, a male Shiba Inu, approached us.

コンちゃんとはコロナ前までは毎日のように一緒に遊んでいたのですが、それ以降はタイガの時間帯が変わったのでたまにしか会えません。最近、コンちゃんは毎日会える子以外に対して警戒するようになったそうで、タイガが近づきすぎると唸るようになりました。なのでタイガはコンちゃんをスルーしてママに挨拶に向かいます。

They used to meet every day before the Covid but, since then, Taiga's walk schedule has changed and it is very rare to see each other.  Now, Kon gets edgy with any dog that he does not see every day.

ただし、面と向かってくるのでなければOKのようで、タイガのお尻の臭い嗅ぎ。

As Kon growled at her, Taiga walked away to greet Kon's mon.  Nevertheless, Kon seemed to feel OK to take a sniff at her.

もうすっかりオトナの顔に成長。

Kon's name implies the fox.

そのあと下のほうの草地へ移動。アガパンサスとカンゾウの花が夏らしい。

We moved to the lower part of the park before going home.

カンゾウは、私が育った田舎ではヒバナと呼ばれて、家の中に入れると火事を起こすという迷信があったのでずっとネガティブなイメージをもっていました。ガーデニングをするようになり知ったことですが、カンゾウやヘメロカリスの花や蕾は食べられるそうです。

近くの柿の木には幼果が育っています。

We found a nice shade under this persimmon tree.

その柿の木の木陰で一休み。

このあと、灼熱の砂漠のような道路を歩いて帰りました。暑い夏、先が思いやられます。

After enjoying this shade, we walked home in the full sun all the way.

スモﾓ「彩の姫」 Plums

あんなに初成りを楽しみにしていた「李王」は、結局、一個も食べられませんでした。毎朝ヒヨドリがやってきて突いて落としたからです。陽光面の少し色づいた部分を突いて穴を開けられた後は全部地面に落ちて、その後はアリがやってきて穴の部分に群がっていました。朝一にベランダから見下ろすと、李王の枝にいるヒヨドリがしっかり視線を合わせていました。

今は「彩の姫」が色づいています。雨の合間に手の届く範囲で網をかけたので、一部は収穫できています。

Plum "Saino-hime" is ripening.  The variety called "Riou" is all gone without my ever tasting the fruit, due to wild birds visiting the tree every morning.  After that, I managed to cover a part of the Saino-hime (Hypsipetes amaurotis) tree with a net, which allows me to harvest some of them.

２年前の秋にオクで買った、赤花無点オニユリが咲き始めました。オニユリ特有の黒いポツポツが無い品種です。

Tiger lily starting to flower.  This is a rare variety without the black spots.  Instead of black spots, it has red spots which are of a darker hue than the petal.

写真では分かりづらいですが、黒いポツポツの部分には花びらの色より少し濃い赤色のポツポツがあります。同時期に買った黄花無点オニユリの花よりも、この朱色のほうがインパクトがあります。
